Yeah. I'm really hoping the Council is considering revoking the Laio's alliance with us over this. This is absurd. The Laio are letting themselves be led about by the Licori, who want war for chestbeating purposes, and that is simply not acceptable in a Federation ally.

The pride of the Laio fleet was destroyed by the Muzuoi, and the OSA won't do anything about it. They won't let this go.

There's a difference between not letting it go and helping the Licori assert their strength in a bloody war. Like, they could have asked us for help in securing solutions here, instead of leaping straight to war which will get more of their people killed-they were allies in good standing. It's like if we'd responded to the Orion Syndicate by invading Alukk-it's actively counterproductive to preventing more deaths. They pretty clearly lack the temperament to be Federation members any time soon and we need to seriously consider if we want them as allies.

They gave us over a year. What solutions were secured? What path is there even to securing solutions? Meanwhile the Licori busted the station where the ship that destroyed the Odanner was operating from. Seems to me the Arcadian Empire is the only group that has made any progress to bringing them justice. If that makes the Laio "lack the temperament to be Federation members" then there's something seriously screwed up about the Federation.

Agreed, while it might be a little extreme they have a legitimate grievance and literally no one else has managed to do anything.

Well, looks like we're going to be having a really fun time soon. Hopefully the task force can still stop this war, but if there are only 4 days, it's not looking good.

We've already lost one explorer with all hands and our best Diplocook captain. It would be shitty as hell to lose another in a year, esp a brand new explorer.

Mr. Butters if you would be so kind.

Especially a brand new explorer name Enterprise.

Enterprise literally only passed her Hull test to not die by 1 point.

If it weren't for Zhang's bonus, she'd be lost with all hands.
I'm curious: Did this end up using this bonus too?

[ ][ZERO] Not a forgiving place: Reroll the next failed Hull test by an Explorer Corps ship

Space is not safe, which is why we tell ourselves all these little stories. Sometimes they help, and they make the big black void seem a little less scary.

I've failed.

President Blue Elagyi doesn't trust the Licori. He doesn't trust the corporations, either, but the Licori are ready to go to work, and the corps are willing to protect the OSA. If the Licori and Laio had given them time ... but instead, they have pushed things closer and closer to war. The recent conference at Clover they walked out on, the confrontations with OSA corporate ships (and the blame being pinned on the OSA government), the constant attacks in media outlets throughout the quadrant, it's all forced Elagyi's hand.

As for specific points of the ultimatum: OSA will only force the dissolution of the spacegoing companies if and when due process is followed, and any corporate officers will be tried on Ikeigenoi. I suggested Laian, or even Betazed, but he was insistent. OSA has and continues to denounce piracy, so there's no need to 'renounce' it, and the Deca Council is no more responsible for the actions of rogue corporations than the Orion Union was responsible for Lironh. And Laian, and even Licori, investigators are welcome to assist in the OSA's own investigations of the corps, but they'd have to operate within the limits of OSA law.

I suggested an apology for the loss of the Odanner, at least, as a token gesture; he rejected the idea, on the basis that an apology would only be seen as an admission of responsibility. I get the feeling that a few months ago, he might have agreed to an apology, but with the Licori and Laio rapidly mobilizing and constantly attacking his government in the press, his hands are tied.

I'll report the OSA position on the ultimatum. But I fear that at this point it's too late.

Help us, Thuir, you are our only hope!

At least no pp shortage anymore.

Interesting. So there was apparently no room for partial success or partial failure on whatever the hull test was, only a pass/fail threshold that if not met results in complete destruction and all crew dying. I'd also guess from the fluff that there was a failed shields check beforehand. At least we do know ships gain veterancy experience from failed events.
[O][BACKUP] The first time that Enterprise-C fails a Combat, Science, Shields (L), or Reaction (D) test by 1, it instead just barely passes, thanks to the backup core.

Pretty sure this hasn't triggered previously, so whether there were any S, L or D tests in the event, the Enterprise didn't fail any of them by only one point.

Hm. On other Enterprise note, our pride will swing out coreward over our justifiably paranoid friends. What's chances that it will meet another Padani Extinction Level Threat and makes it go away? Or at least warns Padani with enough data for them to deal with it.

I should remind people, RE: this debate, that the Laio protection of their exploratory heritage runs deep. You'll recall they wanted to throw down with USS Sarek after Solla Payat accidentally ruined their moon landing site:

Captain's Log, USS Sarek - Captain Samyr Kanil

There are things I enjoy doing on vacation. Staring down the battlefleet of an affiliate is not one of them. To say the Liao are angry would be similar to observing that a supernova is energetic.

[...]

Saving her life was apparently not the right decision, as the captain of their flagship is angrily demanding that Lieutenant Payat be turned over for immediate interrogation. Pictures of her shattering the containment dome around the remains of the first Laian flag placed on Loon are everywhere on social media. Not the part where she's bug-eyed and gasping for non-existent air as her suit helmet shatters, of course.

Captain's Log, USS Sarek - Captain Samyr Kanil

There is no easy trick out of this. There is no avoiding the fury of the Laio -- their explorers have been weapons hot for a full day now.

I will face them as openly and honestly as possible. I just hope they pick some fast-burning material when they decide to torch me at the stake.

... So this isn't exactly new behavior.
