Maybe, but I'm passionate about it!

I really don't like how much we're overusing poor Admiral Aelin. He already has a colony named after him. Let's have more diversity guys!

On the other hand, I really want to see more non-human names. As such, I propose S'harien (after the great Vulcan sword smith) it also has the advantage of having been used as a ship name in the TOS era, so it is already "traditional".

[X][NAME] S'harien

We need to expand the Science Academy and Starfleet Academy ASAP.

We already have a ship named after a Vulcan though.

And I don't think the oversaturation is an issue. we'll barely even notice the colony named after Aelin, and I know if I had the choice, I'd rather have an Explorer named after me than some backwater colony.

Swords and specifically S'harien's swords have an important place in the The Romulan mythology/history.

And technically Starfleet doesn't have warships. The name is perfect. The man was capable of building the finest swords in Vulcan/Romulan history but also was conviced to turn to other pursuits by logic and reason.

I'm going back and changing my vote.
Since you know the backstory, I trust your judgment in the matter. Will change mine shortly.

Though I will be saddened if "Odyssey" wins by default because we split our vote between two interesting nonhuman names.

For those that just voted for S'harien, remember that you need to repost your entire old vote or edit the new Name vote into your previous vote. The tally program will forget your old vote entirely and only your new ship name vote will count otherwise.

That actually sounds like a great name for a Renaissance, if we want to theme those names for growth, science, and innovation. Which I think is a good theme.

For the Renaissance class, I was thinking The Renaissance, the De Vinci, and then trying to get a similar figure from each of the other members for the first wave of ships.

And whoever does the tally needs to clear cache first to account for edited votes.

Ahhh I am torn.

On the one hand I do like S'harien.

Abd on the other I'd really like an Amarki name but I don't want to over expose Aelin, but we don't really have any other Amarki names or I'd vote for those.

S'harien would also be a good name to keep in our pocket if/when some sort of closer Romulan diplomacy happens, as he's the most obvious link between the world of Vulcan and Romulus.

Clearly what we need are some more dramatic battles fit for some of them to die a hero's death in. The Amarki will doubtlessly agree.

I think the idea was always that the "Old Guard" admirals were at best marginally competent, without any special or remarkable characteristics that give them advantages or benefits other than "your navy continues to funct...

I think their skills had actually very little to do with their being Old Guard - they were simply the appointees of our predecessor. Which is why I brought it up since it seems possible to me that something similar could happen to us (if for example the Federation goes for a more political motivated appointment etc.). I admit I have no idea how likely it is (which is why I asked) but it seems like a cool and interesting idea to me (and would mean that spending pp on retiring old guard now would be a waste).

For the Renaissance class, I was thinking The Renaissance, the De Vinci, and then trying to get a similar figure from each of the other members for the first wave of ships.

Naming the Renaissance ships after renaissance era "scientists" would certainly be a cool (and fitting ) idea though we would probably need to come up with some OC's for the other races to fit that theme.

If we build a RBZ station over the Vulcan colony in the area, that might be a good name that respects the colony, and who it faces, and sends a good message about respecting skill and history.

I tried to put down a list of things we should look into for the snakepit:
-Another one-megaton berth
-Mining and research colonies (as always)
-Consider a starbase on the Cardassian border
-Other defensive measures directed against Cardassia.
-Weapons research team?
-Start work on the Renaissance-class? Or did we already pay for that and I forgot?

Did I forget anything, peoples?

EDIT:
-Expansions to Starfleet Academy are important! We need the crew.

My list
Request Start of Renaissance class project, receiving one-off boost of Research Points and go-ahead for some projects, 20pp
Request Science Academy Expansion, 20pp (Gain +1 Techs throughput)
Request new Starbase I [Write in Sector] 20pp for home sectors, CBZ or RBZ (I would do RBZ unless the cost has gone up.)
Request OMAKE Tech Team to be added to your Ship Design Bureau, 10pp
Add a Member World Coordination Office under Shipyard Ops, 30pp (allow cooperation with member worlds on ship-building priorities as part of Shipyard Ops turn phase)
Request Mining Colony at 21 Themis VII, 8pp (4 turns, gain +15 sr / year)
Request expansion of Lor'Vela Orbital Construction Facility, 10pp (4 turns, gain 1 new 1m t berth)
Request expansion of Ana Font Shipyard, 10pp (4 turns, gain 1 new 1m t berth) [Can take multiple times]
Request focused Diplomacy on Apiata, 10pp (One affiliate or prospective race will undergo accelerate diplomacy) [Can be taken multiple times]

That's 138. If we get 10 more....
Request OMAKE Tech Team to be added to your Ship Design Bureau, 10pp

If we get 10 more....
Request focused Diplomacy on Seyek, 10pp (One affiliate or prospective race will undergo accelerate diplomacy) [Can be taken multiple times]

Going light on Diplomacy this year because we've discussed how stretched Starfleet is getting. I say we limit our pushes until 2309, when 2 Excelsiors and 4 Centaur-As will finish in Q4. I deprioritize the Omake tech teams slightly because we are almost certainly getting a free team from Betazed when they join.

@OneirosTheWriter, is there a theme that Amarki names fall into? Since they're now full members, we need to name some ships after Amarkian stuff.

If nothing exists, I'll probably just go make some stuff up.

Sensible Romulan who Agrees with me: "Ah, yes, a symbol of possible friendship. Quite unexpected of the Federation to be so poignant."
Paranoid, Angry Romulan Strawman: "THEY ARE SIGNALLING THEY HAVE THE OTHER TWO SWORDS ON THE STATION SO WE MUST ATTACK TO RECOVER THEM"

Clearly what we need are some more dramatic battles fit for to die a hero's death in. The Amarki will doubtlessly agree.

Eh, to me the best solution seems to be to come up with a "cool" sounding name and retroactively create a corresponding hero (provided @OneirosTheWriter has no problem with that) because otherwise our character/name base will be very limited, especially in the case of the OC races.

So the only real close vote is the name, where it's Odyssey 14 to Aelin 13. You who voted for low vote alternative names like @Nervos Belli and @fasquardon and @HearthBorn and @Void Stalker and @Gingganz and @pbluekan and @Happerry and @Katsuragi should probably consider which of the two you prefer.

Great you just made it worse with people clobbering their old comprehensive votes with singular name votes

Well assuming no one else is going to vote on non-name stuff, we can just use Nix's tally for the rest of the vote.

I really don't like how much we're overusing poor Admiral Aelin. He already has a colony named after him. Let's have more diversity guys!

Agreed.

On the other hand, I really want to see more non-human names.

I consider "odyssey" to be non-human. In local languages, it will be whatever fancy word they have for "adventure". In English, it'll just happen to be "Odyssey".

As such, I propose S'harien (after the great Vulcan sword smith) it also has the advantage of having been used as a ship name in the TOS era, so it is already "traditional".

That also sounds nice, but would prefer to leave it for a non-FYM ship, or the Renaissance class or even a non-ship.

I think the main thing is that we don't have much of an in depth picture of the Amarki, only the broad strokes, I was considering trying my hand at it, but I am not at all familiar with the inspiration material.
