On the other token, the Cardassia and Horizon et al. may get a very good look at our emergency response procedures/times. Even if/when they never figure out why, you can not hide a rapid ship movement on the scale this alert seems to indicate.

And they might ask themselves - what happened there? Because last time an emergency deployment like this was - Biophage?

something something inazuma setting sail something something.

What no, Lightning certainly doesn't have a below average height japanese woman with an updo bustling around...does she? :V
let me dream dammit

Nope. Probably has one of the more diverse command staffs in the Federation, though. Her chief security officer is a Yan-Ros Ranger :V

Good lord I pop back Into this thread after a long absence and the first post I see is a temporal anomaly in sol. ......Yeah, this is a starfleet quest alright.

So... it appears that I've missed quite a lot and we've encountered this universe before. Can someone direct me to a good post to start catching up on this storyline? I'm scrolling through the 1000+ thread marks and am quite lost.

Try the captains logs from the start of... 2321, iirc that's when Tarrak jumped into the Looking-Glass universe which directly leads to this plot

This is the start of the current chain. It references a previous Captain's log that was our first encounter with this universe.

That caught my attention when I read it a second time. A half second may not seem like much but it could actually be extremely dangerous. So maybe its time to update the older facilities across the federation to match the Ambassador class sensor suits. to make up for the lag.
We should get a project either in SDB or Snakepit to upgrade our starbases/outposts with isolinear computers, once the isolinear tech is considered mature and no longer experimental. (BTW, anyone know what's our progress on that? Where is that tracked?)

Not sure how useful that would be since I doubt either of those polities actually seriously considered an attack on Sol. Our capital is just so far away from both of their territories that it's pretty much a logistical impossibility for them to bother seriously treating as a military target. The Klingons and Romulans would have a better shot, but they probably already know about Sol's response efficiency due to having observed us through the V'ger and whale probe incidents.

Or it happens automatically behind the scenes ...

I presume we should get a stat benefit for the upgrade. Like a +1S or a +1D or something, and that would merit some kind of cost associated. Maybe not pp, but we've plenty of RP to spend.
It could be modeled with one of the T4 starbase design techs (or one of the listed effects) having isolinear as prerequisite, so far the tech tree only goes to T3 in that area.

Enterprise: "~We go to fight for freedom, which shall never be abhorred.~"
Lightning, sharpening a rapier: "~We are tramping out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;~"
Luna: "~We have loosed the faithful Lightning and her terrible swift sword.~"
Tarrak: "The fleet comes sailing on!~"
Ambassador: "I'm almost certain that isn't how that goes."
Enterprise, nudging Ambassador with an elbow: "Loosen up Sis.:lol"
Liberty: "...You are all a bunch of weirdos."

Note: Luna's line is, of course, what has been going through my mind since Lightning came up as the isolinear testbed option and the axis on which this turns. So it goes.

Given that the Ambies took seven year from clean sheet to finished prototypes and the tech was frozen once design began the sensor/computer tech onboard will have been available for seven years so one might reasonably expect the starbases at least to be upgraded during that time.

And off we go!

"MCO, we have Ambassador, Enterprise, Lightning, Rixx, a UESPA Connie-B, Constellation-A, and two Mirandas,"
You know, when I tried tallying the "most optimistic possible yet within game rules" response fleet, I totally forgot that the Betazoid Defense Force and the Institutes of Gaeni are technically in the Sol sector too. That would've added to the maximum: 1 Renaissance, 3 Patrol Cruisers, 1 Centaur-B, 1 Centaur-A, 7 Patroller-As, 1 Tech-Explorer, 7 Tech-Cruisers, 9 Tech-Frigates, and oh, another Tech-Cruiser and Tech-Frigate are only 1 quarter away from commissioning.

Obviously the majority of those ships are around Betazoid and Gaeni space, respectively, but as this quoted snippet shows, we did get a "responding" Betazoid Patrol Cruiser :)

Sorry I forget but what is Nash's Fleet command bonus again?
Before the task force system, there was no mechanical bonus except how whimsy Oneiros is feeling with setting up the battles. That's why I was always so worried about promoting important characters to military campaigns - I knew it made complete narrative sense to do so, but knowing at the same time that there was no actual bonus... I was paranoid failure was just around the corner for even the most apparently plot-armored characters.

The Gaeni tech ship captains are all going to be very sad they did not make excuses to be at the launch and missed the rip in space-time. Just think of the lost sensor data. They would even promise to behave while in Sol (prime) and not use anti-matter charges to probe the distortion.
