There's multiple Excelsiors and some Rennies.

We're going to keep one Excelsior around just as a BZ flagship once it becomes a normal BZ and starts getting normal events. But we can shift one to TF duty.

Next year we'll have 11 non-EC Excelsior-As and 8 Border Zones + Sol Sector that would probably benefit from an Excelsior flagship. (Though the Sydraxian Border Zone has cooled so much these days I think we can get away with stocking it only with cruisers.)
We'll have 14 Renaissances in Q1; 15 in Q2.
We'll have 7 Centaur-Bs; 10 in Q2.
And one Kepler in Q2.

Speaking of the Sydraxian Border Zone. Would it be feasible for us to do away completely with the SBZ and just turn it to another sector and send the ships elsewhere?

Feasible, perhaps. Beneficial, perhaps not. Border Zones generating Events are a good thing, as long as we have the ships to keep them manned. In fact, we ought to think about more border zones, not less. We've had some options in the Snakepit for years now.

No.

First, it being a border zone is mechanically preferable because it enables Forward Defense bonuses.

Second, the region is inhabited by affiliates with complicated relations with us.

Third, it borders a relatively unexplored area.

How did the CAS Anacail get damaged?
It was damaged in the Q1 update, with 1 quarter repair time... so it's under repair for Q2 and should be back in service in the Q3 update.

Of these, the Kepler is the highest P ship. Should we send that to the Horizon TF, or send it to the Dawiar TF and transfer the Odyssey to the Horizon TF?

(Odyssey still has a higher S9 than the base Kepler S7 due to veterancy, so maybe it's better kept on the Dawiar mission since that's a bit more S & P dependent than just straight P.)

Neither one.

I'd prefer to keep the Kepler somewhere that isn't under the eyes of Great Power rivals until we're ready to field more of the class, and also it's primarily a science ship with Diplomacy as a back-up. I was thinking we either put it on the Task Force to explore the Adrazzi Gulf (a primarily Science task) or maybe a Task Force to clean up that continent of goo and hopefully pick up lots of research bonuses.

Is anyone interested in possibly taking over doing the maps in a couple of weeks (and asking any questions they might have in preparation until then)? It looks like there is a relatively high chance I will quit participating in the game permanently around then. I'm not sure what parts of the workflow would require explanation, what parts are obvious and for what parts there is a much better way to do it that I didn't think of, so rather than writing a guide I'd wait and see if anyone is willing and what questions they have (I'm using Inkscape and the most recent svg file is in the threadmarked post).
For research I expect @pheonix89 or someone else will probably take over next year if I do quit and the research system hasn't been revised by then anyway. For the next research turn I should be around either way.

I though for a couple of hours on how best to do this (so the timing of posting this is unrelated to anything that might have been posted on the last couple of pages), and couldn't think of any good way, just worse ways. I'm not going to state the possible reason in public because I don't want to blackmail anyone. No one should feel obligated to change the way they run or play this game just to keep it possible for me to enjoy it. But I also don't want to cause disruption by suddenly leaving unannounced. I thought about claiming I might leave for real life reasons, but I really hate lying and also that wouldn't explain why I wouldn't be able to answer a couple of questions [I don't expect to bring up the resolve], and I'm not sure if I would leave the board entirely or not, so that's another way such a lie could fall flat.

No, it's not due to personal problems with anyone, or due to the new QMs, anyone having done anything wrong, or anything remotely like that. It's not anything that should make anyone think less of anyone else, except possibly me for it being such a(n apparently) silly reason.

No doubt some will see this as me being a drama queen. I'd really rather avoid that, but I couldn't think of any way that wasn't objectively worse than being seen as a drama queen, so I guess I'll have to live with it.

I'll volunteer to take over the research work you've been doing, but I don't know how to calc ETCs the way you've been doing.

Hmm, actually, talking about the map, can one of the QM's tell us the location of the Chrystovians and those other guys the Cardassians conquered, the Kobheerians I think it was? They haven't been placed on the map, so I assume we've never been told?

Angel Wolf: Nix is leaving, which is bad :( His cartography and research were A+ and a huge resource for players and GM's alike.

Devil Wolf: if no one takes over map making i dont have to have consistent distances or geography for ANYTHING

I only started doing them recently so I don't think they are essential, but for what it's worth I'm just manually trying out the different combinations of admiral bonus and boost years in the Haskell repl. The functions I'm using total less than 50 lines of code so I suppose we could port them to some other programming language or even a spreadsheet if desired. If it's worth doing that for a research system that might be reworked soon anyway.

Maybe we can affiliate the Sotaw and eventually make them Full Federation members someday.

It's more likely that the border zone will continue to "roll forward" if and when we bring in the Sydraxians/Gretarians/Yrillians, much as the Cardassian Border Zone did as we brought in the Amarki, Apiata, and Indorians. By the 2330s it may well be over on the far side of their space and, in effect, the "ISC Border Zone."

Even that's assuming we don't have berths for refits we could do instead. And god knows the majority of starfleet is about to have a refit option.

If there IS a crew crunch in a decade, we could/should start cycling the Miranda/Oberth out to member fleets and SF intel branch.
Civilian research organizations might find use for the Oberths.

I can code it myself if I feel the need.

Can we make a Task force for Harmon of Horizon? Not just their Tags on potential members, but a task force dedicated towards making an official treaty or something? Conflict between the Federation and Harmony seems limited, given their similar natures of preferring diplomacy over direct confrontation. Establishing an official treaty between the two of us would lower the chances of conflict even more, and could lead to some interesting developments down the road.

On the other hand, once things are settled about the independent powers between the two of us, that might just be a natural next step to take. Still, I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks about the possibility.
