Again, according to science as we in RL 21st-century Earth understand it. Star Trek's science isn't so hard we can't just wave our hands and assume "advanced technology".

And my point was that "stealthing", to me, reads as an intentional "tee hee we's gonna hide it" approach, instead of "this is way more energy-efficient than our current science can explain". I'm putting forth that the latter is what happened.

Nope. Can't handwave thermo that way. Second thermo is provable from pure math as long as the laws of physics themselves are static.

And why on earth would someone dump waste heat via exotic shenanigans instead of using the 1.1*10^17 square KM radiator they already built? Stealth. That's why.

That's missing the point. (And the question of whether it's possible or not doen't matter for the argument.) It's unexplored space: There are things out there. It doesn't matter how likely or unlikely something in particular is, just that various kinds of crazy things can be found in the unknown. (And in the quest, too. In RL there's the crazy sealife in the ocean's depths, or extemophile bacteria under the Arctic ice, or even just how weird the planets and moons of our own Solar System are.) Anyways, point is, if an EC ship traveling right next to known space can run into something that it can barely survive, then two non-EC ships on an "interior space" mapping mission can also run into events outside their weight class. Even if it's unlikely, there will be events on that event table that those ships simply can't handle. The text of the mission says it's a dangerous mission, not a safe or routine one.
 
Obviously, the Dyson sphere is directly shunting most of the solar output somewhere else without absorbing it and using it.

So... we have FTL and Stealth in Space and a lack of any form of heat radiatior in ANY ship in the setting... oh, dear.

Guys, we are decanonizing the whole thing. back to the writer's workshop and somebody find me a shovel? we are going to need to undig some of the people involved and... well, getting Gene in one piece is going to be a bit of a challenge... but, Chop Chop!
 
We might as well discuss it now... which mission should we assign the Explorer Corps ship to? Horizon influence or the Dawiar? And which EC ship should we send?
 
I'd send Odyssey tbf. Enad has the reroll to Hard DC events which is vital for this, and Odyssey is Vet iirc so it's a potent ship. Probably assign to the Dawiar; that mission has much worse consequences if we fail.
