*Sees whats been happening*

So, is the idea of pulling an Ambassador for GBZ Duty silly anymore?
Yes.

Ambies are at their best responding. GBZ ships don't respond to events. The GBZ needs combat capabilities, and a pair of Rennies bring more fighting strength for less cost.

Non-EC ambies go in the HBZ, SBZ and CBZs first. Then to the KBZ and RBZ.

Created a temporary spreadsheet to estimate how much extra income we'd receive if we ratified two members this year instead of one:
ToBoldlyGo Ratification Schedule

Assumptions:
1) Counting Honiani and Yan-Ros ratification together, since: a) we haven't gotten major affiliation bonuses for the Yan-Ros since they hit 300 relation in 2316; and b) there's a decent chance they'll be merged into the Honiani like the Obar soonish.
2) 6 back-to-back ratifications. Two ratifications in 2318, and one ratification per year until 2322.
3) The first to be ratified is Caldonia. Other than who the first ratification is, the order doesn't really matter.
4) I obviously have to estimate what the future ratification bonuses are. I based my estimations on historical major affiliation => ratification income deltas.

Then the net income bonuses from ratifying one member earlier is: sum of (one year of ratification income increases) per ratified member, excluding the first.

Here's my predicted income deltas per ratification (from major affiliate incomes):

Core World BR SR PP RP O E T
Caldonia 15 10 3 5 0.2 0.45 0.8
Rethelia (Seyek) 30 10 5   1.2 1.2 1.2
Risa 10 10 3 3 0.15 0.15 0.15
Arqueniou (Qloathi) 35 15 3 5 1.1 1.1 1.2
Honiani + Yan-Ros 35 15 5 5 1.1 1.2 1.15
Paddah (Ked Paddah) 25 35 5   1.25 1.35 1.35
Excluding the Caldonia, that all adds to be:
135br, 85sr, 21pp, 13rp, 4.8O, 5E, 5.05T

For comparison:
- If we bought a 10(25)sr mining colony this snakepit for 8pp, for 4 year time period starting next year, we'd accrue 100sr.
- If we bought an academy development (0.5O/E/T) this snakepit for 50pp, for the 5 year time starting this year, we'd accrue 2.5O/E/T.

Meanwhile, the "Push for two new members this year" snakepit option cost 180pp last year.

I'd say purely on resource income benefits, it's hard to say whether it's worth it. Although we do have very few levers to get crew, so it something that's effectively equivalent to two early academy development options is attractive (which probably would normally cost 50+55=105pp).

But that's only the "tangibles".

For security purposes, like getting the Seyek onboard ASAP and protecting from HoH influence that bit faster, along with obviating some useless diplomacy events targeting already-500 affiliates, this could still be worth it.

On the other hand, it's still overt meddling with Council politics... but perhaps such lobbying is par for the course?

The GBZ is going to be continual thorn in the side untill matters get properly resolved so my recomendation would be to set the goal as doing sufficient damage that the Cardasian Union is forced to negoitiate a fixed frontier in the GBZ or completely removing all Cardasian assets in the GBZ. Simpl flailing arround destroying a few vessels or and outposts will not be sufficient.

Pick their most isolated outposts (preferably mining colonies) and drive inward making like Sherman as we go until we meet significant resistance, then ball up and smash the resistance flat, then repeat.

The konen have changed things. They're much more aggressive and much more competent than any of us expected.

We'll see what the GBZ looks like when the ambies roll out. I'd still rather use excelsiors though.

The Kaldar refit should put that cruiser just shy of the Excelsior-A in performance if not generally equivelenet...there's also the Largot to worry about. The Excelsior-A is a refit of a ship that is already approaching 30 years old, you people are talking about having them go up against things in the same development generation of the Ambassador and Later... Remember also that the horizon stuck Excelsior-A Equivelent stats or at least Combat Stats on something a whole megaton under it in size.

Clearly that idea didn't work, the Konen are isolating and hitting SINGLE SHIPS!

We need a single ship that they can't break, that and I'd be willing to bet that Sabotage wasn't a C/L/H Test....

@MS-21H 'Hawke' Two counterpoints:

1) We could build an E-A equivalent significantly lighter these days too. 1500kt cruiser frames are pretty awesome. Explorers are always fluffier for a given stat than anything else.

2) If multiple ships jump a single ship, due to the combat engine unless that single ship is incredibly badass it loses. And no, an Amby is not badass enough.

This is actually exactly why I'm reluctant to use Ambassadors in the GBZ. The konen are good at ambushing lone ships. The Ambassador is an extremely expensive and (in the short term) irreplaceable single ship. I'm not at all convinced that a lone Ambassador will survive a well executed konen ambush much better than an Ex-A would.

Guys, news from discord*: we're gonna 50pp EACH for the Council Defense Goal and Science Goal achievements that were delayed from last year.

According to my ledger, that means we have:
2317 EOY: 458
MWCO: -55
CL Q1: 25
CL Q2: 50
CL Q3: 20
2x Excelsior commissioned by Q2: 10
Both Council Goals achieved: 100

Grand pre-snakepit total: 608pp

edit: ....and Oneiros dangles the carrot out of reach - that 100pp is delayed for next snakepit >.<
So 508pp it is.

* I know some peeps can't or won't use Discord, so this should be verified whenever Oneiros posts the snakepit.

The Excelsior design is canonical refittable enough that a properly refit Excelsior can tangle with Ben Sisko's Pimp Hand and have reasonable chance of success. Don't bother arguing we can't keep it up to date with refits, show canon says otherwise.

The stock Kaldar is down a point of C, two points of S, a point of L and a point of D from the stock Excelsior. The refit isn't likely to add as much as the Excelsior refit did because they've got less room to work with and the Excelsior has insane refit potential.

And an E-A is at a substantial edge over a Lorgot. Same C, but better S, H, L and D. A Lorgot refit would have a better chance - but there's no sign such a thing exists.

2318.Q2

Federation Broadcast Service, Election Night Headlines

Andorian Worlds:
Development Councillor Phyria ch'Galleth holds Andoria against Pacifist attempts to reclaim it.
Expansion Candidate Fanath th'Inank in a shock upset secures Kadann over Development Councillor Somo sh'Viarriq
Jorlyth sh'Arrath retains the seat of Landle IV for Expansionists
Expansion Councillosr Tohlaav ch'Thyllarh holds Sardry IV
In a surprise, the Hawks flip Thiak V, Kas zh'Hanash defeating the incumbent ch'Vuhlan-X
But Shrantet III does the reverse, and the Expansionist Aror th'Tirhen are returned to power at the expense of the Hawk Jhran zh'Chevyth
Tiven zh'Ovallat-P retains Ranford III

Human Worlds:
Development keeps Joburg again, returning Cassandra McCale-D comfortably
Viraat Mohli of Lalande-D has lost to Expansionist candidate Ivan Djulbic.
Councillor Josef Nkumba of Mars-D ends his long tenure, losing to the former Admiral Rogers-H
Expansionist stalwart Hayley Singh has been returned comfortably to her seat of Alpha Centauri.
Time to break out a round of applause for another old veteran of the Council. Expansionist Party leader Rob Langford of Earth has conceded victory to the Pacifist candidate Trina Bettelheim in a shock upset.
Vega sees a nail-biter as thought to be safe Alexander Kwan-H narrows beats out a development Candidate.
In an apparent backlash to go-slow tactics employed in the leadup to the Arcadian War, Councillor Casey Wang of New Seoul-P has been defeated not by the Expansionists who were tipped to take the seat, but by Development candidate Mahmud Sukarno.

Tellarite Worlds:
Lagh Cheg II remains a safe Development seat, returning Duss bav Xorggarv easily.
Agrad mac Kragac of Ord Grind Duk-D is returned safely.
As is Development party leader Glagh brisc Jorth of Tellar Prime-D.
In a boilover, Ihrgar Grund of Klivvar Proxima-H has been defeated by Development candidate Agar Kugav, who will be very pleased to pick up the border world.
Popular Pacifist Councillor Xom bim Cherr is returned easily to Sar Alpha.

Vulcan Worlds:
Councillor Sadek, right hand of the President in the Council, has been returned to represent Atatan in a landslide, a clear vindication for his handling of the Arcadian War.
T'Torah of 82 Eridani-P sees off an Expansionist challenge to retain her seat.
As does Hamith of Delta Vega.
Vrol of Hagelan-P overturns predictions by keeping the seat he took from the Expansionists at the last election.
...and in electoral news that is pending a Level 0 diagnostic of Solitude's electoral machines, a rare and unexpected ray of light for the Hawks, as T'Prinit-P loses her seat to Hawks T'Jal.
Councillor Stesk of Vulcan-P retains his seat despite a spirited campaign by a Development candidate.

Overall:
So all in all, nine seats changed party. Development lost 3, Expansionist lost 2, Pacifists lost 2, and Hawks lost 2. On the other side of the ledger, Expansionist gained 3 for a net +1, Hawks picked up 3 for a net +1, Development picked up 2 for a net -1, and the Pacifists picked up 1 for a net -1.

Expansionists thus were able to claw back a little of their electoral disaster from six years past, while Hawks continue to secure additional support.

Most notably, there is no longer any path to a 2 party majority, with all party combinations now requiring support from at least three sources.

I'll drop this if you give me one thing:
A Garentee that the E-A and eventuall E-B/Enlightenment(?) can compete favorably against enemy battleships, especially ones that are meant to compete favorably against the Ambassador.

The Excelsior design is canonical refittable enough that a properly refit Excelsior can tangle with Ben Sisko's Pimp Hand and have reasonable chance of success. Don't bother arguing we can't keep it up to date with refits, show canon says otherwise.

Canon refit ridiculousness is obviously not going to be a thing with weight playing a factor, the Connie-B basicly being a Dead-end offshoot while we had Connie-As in the dominion wars.

While the Excelsior may be around in one form or anouther, I doubt we'll have her able to compete with a Cruiser or Dedicated attack Frigate like the Defiant.

Councillor Josef Nkumba of Mars-D ends his long tenure, losing to the former Admiral Rogers-H
Now that's vindication!

Ample omake fodder here

Such a goddamn tease

They're apparently delayed until AFTER the snakepit, like last year's Starfleet Ambition completion.
