That's what I said! :p

But the issue is we're coming at it from 2 different sides. You want to always be doing an Excelsior, filling up most of our large berths at any one time. This leaves no room for a cruiser larger than 1mt, which is not something we can do with acceptable(to me) reliability. I on the other hand think having 2-3 Excelsiors building at any one time is fine, and we can use the rest of the large berths for things like a medium cruiser, and our small berths pumping out refit Centaurs. I guess we'll agree to disagree then.

So what is the idea behind the medium cruiser, if I may ask?

I could make a separate thread for hosting ship designs if you want, so that this thread won't be cluttered with them, and so that the designs won't be forgotten.

Refit Centaurs and Constellations or Constitutions.
Next snakepit

If we need to, we'll just pump out mass constellations, or even Connie-Bs, as well as refit Centaurs once those are ready.

Yeah I think I'm pretty much onboard with ConnieBees and Centaur Refits until we can start on the Renaissance or equivalent. It would buy is a couple of years for our current tech to mature in the meantime.

might wanna see if that's ok with the GM

I'd rahter skip the Rennie and go straight for a medium cruiser

Umm, are you basing that upgradability on anything other than your feelings? Nobody is stating that the medium crusiers are more cost efficient, it's just that it's a lot easier to make a larger cruiser more reliable-remember that the more fudge factors you put into a design the less reliable it is.

I'm basing upgradability on the dates specified vs the techs we are likely to have upon reaching those development dates. We could pump out something close to a Renaissance-class in stats pretty quickly, there were a few designs done along these lines earlier in the thread. I'm presuming that the actual "Renaissance" has both increased reliability and increased room to upgrade, given that the date is farther away than our closest date for a stat-clone.

An medium cruiser would have more room if it was designed with the same principles in mind. I haven't really see builds of this nature proposed in the recent medium cruiser discussion.

Umm, take a look at my design again. It has 4 reserve power and around 100kt of extra space for refits.

The "sell the ConnieBee" argument won me over.
I'm working on a better design now.
I don't think he's awake yet :p. In the meantime, we can hold a private conversation discussing ships
Count me in.

Also, I changed the reliability chart to .5% increments to make it more useful.

Right now, we have 4 excelsior berths: SF, 40 Eridani A, Ana Font, and Lor'Vela, plus the 2 at UP which finish 2308. Ana Font and Lor'Vela are 2.5 mt berths. We get enough crew to sustainably construct one excelsior every year, and Excelsiors take 4 years to build. Thus, we should only dedicate 4 berths to Excelsiors. Now, we should keep 1 open for repairs, so that leaves 1 for medium cruiser construction.

They're like Excesiors, but not as good, but we can build them in 3 years.
Like the Achillies was to the Galaxy/Soveriegn in the Dominion War game, I like it, but it's a long term solution...and I believe an actuall light cruiser might still work...

plus, once we get to the point where we have multiple Explorer Classes(or enough excelsiors), we can just use the older ships as 'Heavy Cruisers' and have more numerous light cruisers(some of which are pretty beefy).

but for the issue at hand;
We still need to eather refit the constellation, or do the Connie-B.

I'm willing to drop my argument if I can get a Garentee that the numbers game will be in our favor enough for the numbers to favor us...and from what I've heard of our ship shortage issues...it might not.

Now I will say I'm up for doing the Constellation refit to bring our operational ships up to snuff, but I still want the Connie-B to be the 1v1 Brawler, because odds are the cardies or anouther threat will have us in 1v1 with ships that aren't Excelsiors at some point.
