Captain's Log - 2318.Q1.M3
Captain's Log, USS S'harien, Stardate 26659.6 - Captain T'Rinta

A Seyek orbital colony on Psanoss VI has suffered a catastrophe, with a hull breach, many trauma patients, and dwindling medical supplies. Their facilities are swamped, however, with the lingering effects of the Seyek pandemic confining many of their ships to core world orbit, we are the only available responder. The extent of the damage to fleet readiness caused to the Seyek Space Forces was clearly underestimated, not least on Rethelia.

We must reach Psanoss VI before their medical supplies are exhausted and they begin to lose patients. Tens of thousands of civilians are at stake.

Survey missions around the fringes of Betazoid space have provided us with a number of Cortide deposits ready for retrieval.

We have arrived at Laian to help assist their commissioning efforts on their new Egillah starship - officially anyway. Unofficially, we are here to look for signs that the Harmony of Horizon is making efforts here at this stage.

Thankfully, we have so far seen very little sign of meaningful Harmony activity. There are none of their ships, or signs of their subspace wakes, in the region.

The entire crew is on edge. We are pushing the warp drive to its limits to reach Psanoss in time. The engineering crew is running extended shifts, having to carry out dangerous "hot" maintenance on components to keep them running. My first officer and I are having to keep the peace among the officers and crew as emergency power conditions are in effect.

An EPS conduit malfunctioned due to fluctuating power loads due to the warp drive's drain on the system, injuring Petty Officer Alpizzina. Doctor Argunn reports the Petty Officer will make a full recovery. However, with outages and instability throughout the ship, crew members are watching every component like a loaded photon torpedo.

We have just finished responding to a distress call on the Apiatan mining colony of Naprinata. Their delving deeper into the crust of this moon in search of more duranium apparently opened up a chamber occupied by neural parasite that became capable of spreading by contact. It became capable, some twelve hours after initial exposure, of powerful subconscious command of the host. This cause a cascade of collapsing colonies when workers inadvertently infected their Queens after work shifts. We were able to set the situation to rights, narrowly averting a civil war between angry families.

A research project on a series of symbiotic creatures on Ophelica III has resulted in considerable progress in understanding naturally-occurring genetic reconstructive techniques. We have safely taken samples for study and will carry on our research. My chief science officer will be preparing a presentation for the Andorian Academy.

Our arrival has been made on-time and safely, allowing us to intervene on Psanoss VI and prevent any further loss of life.

Although most of our engineers are still working around the clock to cool down the badly strained power systems aboard the S'harien, I have been able to assist the local colonists in damage control and reconstruction efforts, having more than a passing understanding of the dynamics of blast damage and what to watch out for. The first thing I did aboard the colony, other than direct the medical crews, was examine the damage sites, and inform the colonists that they had missed damage caused by transmitted shock that would have soon ruptured, causing another blast. This danger has now been averted.

Mission Control Director's Log, Starfleet Explorer Corps

After detailed analysis of the last sets of subspace communications from the Stargazer, we have been able to posit that the ship had been moving at several hundred thousand times the speed of light, and was already extragalactic and accelerating. Where they are headed, however, we have not adequately determined. Suffice to say, they have encountered some other technology, unknown phenomena, or potentially an entity such as the Q encountered by Rear Admiral Thuir.

For now, we must wait and hope they return.

Interesting update, funny enough I have been coming across T'rinta in some of the old updates I am reading. Stargazer is interesting, I can think of several possibilities.

Is that the second time T'Rinta has had to render emergency assistance to a catastrophe on an artificial habitat? Is this going to be her thing? Well, at least she didn't get put on trial this time.

T'Rinta's thing is torpedoes and explosions. So it makes sense that whenever something explodes she's the woman you want on the scene, as we just saw.

One possibility is for one of the Travelers to be involved with this, they took the Enterprise-D way beyond the rim.

Only one Traveler is known to exist. But yes, first the Ent-D got sent 2.7 million LY away from the Milky Way, into the Triangulum Galaxy, then got sent over 1 billion LY the other way, into a mysterious blue abyss where thoughts become real.

On the one hand, Voyager done right would be pretty neat. On the other hand, even with the knowledge Oneiros won't make the same mistakes (unless he does it on purpose, which might actually be quite funny in short text updates as opposed to a TV series) half of the thread will groan loudly.

The Stargazer is outside the Milky Way, traveling at several hundred thousand times the speed of light, and still accelerating. They may well end up on the other side of the universe...

... Stargazer? Where the fuck are you going?

"No, can't be Kelvans, they don't know how to make a ship fly that fast. The Medusans can't either, but it could be something like them. Sounds like the signal was from outside the Barrier; we were lucky to make it through that thing mostly alive twice. Hope Maryam remembered the shielding trick the Kelvans used, or things could get really weird on board."

If the Stargazer crew manages to turn the ship around without losing speed. I hope they can get back through the barrier without attracting the attention of O who is out side the barrier. Because if he gets back in we are screwed.

I've been sticking to the shows' canon, except when I feel like drawing on novelizations for anecdotes and inspirations. 0 is not a part of that canon.

Then again, your hope is still valid. It is reasonable to hope that they make it back without drawing the attentions of 0. A very reasonable hope indeed, if 0 does not exist.

NOTE: Edited as per Nix pointing out that I had mistakenly had a team on Propulsion that was actually over on Sensors.

So for Snakepit planning I was trying to see what new tech teams we need. The following lists counts our five Generic Teams (currently 9/10) graduating into full-fledged 2-specialty teams after this year.

Computing - 5 Teams
Warp Technology - 2 Teams
Starship Construction - 5 Teams
Personal Tech - 5 Teams
Sensors - 6 Teams
Weapons - 3 Teams
Shields - 2 Teams
Communications - 5 Teams
Mineral Technology - 3 Teams
Xenopsychology - 5 Teams
Medical - 2 Teams
Propulsion - 2 Teams
SD: Escorts - 3 Teams
SD: Cruisers - 2 Teams
SD: Explorer - 3 teams
Starbase - 3 Teams
Fleet Design Doctrine - 3 Teams
Defensive Doctrine - 2 Teams
Offensive Doctrine - 2 Teams
Analysis - 4 Teams

But that confuses the issue slightly, because it in general we have a team stay on one type of technology and keep there. Here is the list without generic teams and assuming that teams tend to stay on the technology types they have usually been assigned to. (Note - This assumes Prograde Operations will be on Offensive Doctrine as soon as it is open, even though Starfleet Tactical has not yet opened it up yet and they are currently on Weapons.)

Computing - 2 Teams
Warp Technology - 1 Teams
Starship Construction - 2 Teams
Personal Tech - 1 Teams
Sensors - 2 Teams
Weapons - 1 Teams
Shields - 1 Teams
Communications - 2 Teams
Mineral Technology - 2 Teams
Xenopsychology - 2 Teams
Medical - 2 Teams
Propulsion - 1 Teams
SD: Escorts - 1 Teams
SD: Cruisers - 0 Teams
SD: Explorer - 1 teams
Starbase - 2 Teams
Fleet Design Doctrine - 0 Teams
Defensive Doctrine - 2 Teams
Offensive Doctrine - 2 Teams
Analysis - 2 Teams

So after next year, our generic Teams will be:
Team 1 = Computing/Sensors = Assume we assign to Sensors
Team 2 = Weapons/SD: Explorer = Assume we assign to Weapons
Team 3 = SD: Escorts/SD: Cruisers = Assume we assign to Cruisers
Team 4 = Computing/Sensors = Assume we assign to Computing
Team 5 = Communications/Analysis = Assume we assign to Analysis

So that leaves us with:

Computing - 3 Teams
Warp Technology - 1 Teams
Starship Construction - 2 Teams
Personal Tech - 1 Teams
Sensors - 3 Teams
Weapons - 2 Teams
Shields - 1 Teams
Communications - 2 Teams
Mineral Technology - 2 Teams
Xenopsychology - 2 Teams
Medical - 2 Teams
Propulsion - 1 Teams
SD: Escorts - 1 Teams
SD: Cruisers - 1 Teams
SD: Explorer - 1 teams
Starbase - 2 Teams
Fleet Design Doctrine - 0 Teams
Defensive Doctrine - 2 Teams
Offensive Doctrine - 2 Teams
Analysis - 3 Teams

This indicates to me that we need a Warp Technology/Something team and a Personal Tech/Something team, Shields/Something team, and a Propulsion/Something team. I would go Warp Technology/Cruisers, Personal Tech/Explorers, Shields/Escorts, and Propulsion/Warp Technology.

Thoughts?

I mentioned warp tech and shields as the currently highest priorities before (and also needing another sensors team next year), for personal tech I'd definitely pick a team from the Orions if it's higher skill than other options (which seems fairly likely) but otherwise it's not a high priority in the short term, a new team some time within the next five years or so would do. We just finished tier 2 so it's not like we are behind in personal tech at the moment.

I have no idea where you are getting the second propulsion team from, we never had any team other than Intazzi work there? Propulsion is IMO about as high a priority as personal tech, i. e. a new team would be welcome but not necessary this year.

A lot depends on what Oneiros decides on future generic teams, if there isn't going to be another set of those we'll need to recruit a lot more teams than otherwise.

Ah, you're right. I mistakenly had Inid-Uttar on Propulsion rather than Sensors. Will edit in my post above.
