If the Forward Defence plan fails, i wonder if we can make a new Defend the Core doctrine...

But I think it will get through, at which point I want an update from Intel about the Romulan/Klingon reaction, bonus points if they sue for peace because of unease at federation numbers.

Ok, it's a bit more than we have had in these zones for the last two decades, but it isn't overwhelming. Each force doesn't even match a single GBZ task force.

Romulan Border Zone
  • 2318.Q3 - 1 Excelsior (6) [Pleezirra], 2 Centaur-A (6) [Cloudburst, Gale], 1 Miranda-A (2) [Calypso], 1 Oberth (1) [Inspire], Starbase I (6) = 21D
Klingon Border Zone
  • 2318.Q4 - 1 Excelsior (6) [Thirishar], 2 Centaur-A (6) [Typhoon, Bull], 1 Miranda-A (2) [Dynamo], 1 Oberth (1) [Hawking], 1 Starbase I (6) [Shrantet] = 21D

Yeah. But Klingons are long-lived and a lot of the same 'hawk' faction that must have influenced the decision to fight the Romulans is probably also the same faction that used to believe war with the Federation was inevitable and that the Federation would come in like vultures to exploit the aftermath of Praxis. So a fair number of them will be predisposed to expect us to take advantage of the war to further our own interests in any case.

As for the Romulans... oh, yeah, like they're really going to believe anything they're told through an embassy that doesn't match what they already believe. The Romulans have got to be the all-time galactic masters of going "yeah, well, he WOULD say that, wouldn't he?" and shrugging off what other people actually say in an attempt to clear their name of dangerous ambitions.

They assume everyone has dangerous ambitions. And they respect you for that. They wouldn't really know how to cope, dealing with someone who they honestly believed had no dangerous ambitions, because how do you engage with someone like that?

How many ships do we have that are due to be commissioned in the next year?

Oh and have a tally.

Since we have access to the whole tree of every doctrine to help us contextualise stuff the other power do, it would only make sense if their decision making process included that knowledge as well. Combined with our declaration to the council to focus more on the border zones they should be able to tell why our ships are hanging out there.
Strengthening every border we have would also be a shitty first move if we planned to stab one of them into their undefended flank.

[x][FLEET] 2318 BORDER FOCUS

@Briefvoice
With the addition of Caledonia to the KBZ I expect a substantial number of presence events there. I would suggest switching Huascar for the one of the KBZ Centaur-As, as Huascar has an event +1P bonus that makes it the equal of a Rennie for response work.

Regarding minor modifications, I don't mind making them but on the other hand I don't want to be constantly editing every time someone has an idea. I'm going to say that if three people ask for the same modification (switch SHIP A for SHIP B) then I'll be happy to make it. (Or maybe if one person thinks it's a HUGE DEAL.)

Voting for now; I am tempted to make a plan with a more even distribution along the RBZ and KBZ

Well. Iirc a Centaur in the GBZ is insofar a somewhat huge deal as Mirandas are pretty crap at anything before the Vanguard phase, and I don't think Connies and Rennies can enter the battle before then. Not like I'm an expert though.

I will second this. It is a good idea and its worth it.

To elaborate: from Narcissistic Space Empire principle: unlike Federation, who are transparent and kinda drive Romulans crazy trying to look underneath, or Klingons, who are Klingons, Harmony really hides very nasty center behind sweet words and Romulans would find great delight playing playing with Harmony until best time to backstab.

Don't forget that doing this prevents us from getting good rolls on Captains Logs since there will only be 1 or 2 ships in the inner sectors.
No because Border Focus is taking advantage of Mutual Support which lets ships in the border zones roll at a -2 to respond to events in neighboring inner sectors. It makes it more likely that we have ships to respond as event distribution can shift from quarter to quarter.

I can get behind the Centaur-A to the GBZ, if you do so please pick one of the Blooded ones since that will further boost our scouting phase along with being strong enough to last if it gets pulled into the Vanguard phase. Also I would like the Kumari to be swapped into the GBZ with one of the Excelsior-A there. That way we have a Blooded Excelsior-A as a flagship and at the same time move an Excelsior-A into a sector where it can roll for events to get to blooded. Thrishar as well once we refit it should move to the GBZ but that is a few years down the line.

Basically since the only observable gains of experience have been through passing events we want to keep the green ships in the border sectors to respond to events and then once they become blooded rotate them into the GBZ, replacing a green ship of the same class there.

All right, since multiple people have requested it the following modifications have been made to Border Focus.

1. Kumari goes to GBZ after refit, Sojourner goes to SBZ.
2. Bull (Blooded Centaur-A) goes to GBZ as Scout.
3. Hood goes to Andor after Caldonian peacekeeping mission, and the Huascar goes to the the KBZ (replacing the plan to send the Bull to the KBZ).
