[X][TAUNI] Constitution-A, Constellation-A, Miranda-A, Oberth

If the Cardassians haven't by now figured out the Miranda A, then I am deeply disappointed by the Obsidian Order.

Am I the only one who thinks that maybe T1-3 onboard industry just don't exist because there's nothing to make a significant upgrade in that gap? Most ships don't have any use for that part anyways, do they?
But the parts exist. They're in the sheet right now. We just don't know what tech(s) makes them available.

I don't think that the Miranda-A leaking is the end of the world, even if the Tauni had contact with the Cardassians, which they almost certainly do not. The parts that went into the Miranda-A upgrade are almost certainly the same or worse as went into the Constellation-A upgrade. I'm not mad keen on the Constitution-A (the Constellation-A is better in almost every way), but if they want to build it that's up to them.

It's one of the cheapest ways to raise D, so... Yes? Sure, an escort may not use it, but a cruiser or capital certainly will.

You forgot the Connie-B mate!

The Connie-B will be one of the primary combatants in an hypothetical Cardassian war. Seems unwise to risk it leaking. Same goes for the Miranda-A.

Although, it could be said that giving them the Connie-A is also an unacceptable risk, as the Connie-B, being sort-of-a-refit is probably quite similar internally. Same goes for the pre-refit Miranda, except more so.

As for the Constellation-A... also problematic, as it's made of modern Starfleet technology, likely including parts that are also used in modern combat designs.

[X][TAUNI] Patroller-A Design, let them know that more designs will be unlocked as they progress towards joining the federation.

Remember, these guys are new affiliates - we can always give them more later, and they'll have full access if/when they join as full members, at which point Linderly will presumably have worked his secret magic on their operations.

It seems a bit of stretch to me to think that the Cardassians don't have that information in regards to the original Connie and similar aged designs like the Miranda (and the technology involved in them)... It is one thing to keep "state-of-the-art" designs like the Excelsior or maybe the Centaur top-secret but a whole different thing when we are talking about designs that are four or five decades old and which have been used widely all over the Federation.

Hell, considering that one of the defining traits of the Cardassians is their intelligence network I wouldn't be that surprised if they were pretty up to date in regards to our ship designs, especially those also produced by our member fleets. With that many people and interests involved somebody will leak that stuff sooner or later...

Here's hoping the Betazoid government isn't upset by us handing out their design...

The Cardassians and Sydraxians (when they were chummy with the Cardies) have fought the Connie-B and Centaur-A plenty of times in Gabriel already.

I'd say they already know what those ships are capable of.
There's a gap between knowing what a ship can do, and knowing how it does it in great detail.

Here's hoping the Betazoid government isn't upset by us handing out their design...
The Betazoids are, one, very nomilitaristic, and, two, don't really have an innate concept of "secret information." It's something they had to learn from aliens. So I'm pretty sure they won't care much. Worst case they'll want some compensation and we can handle that.

President N'Gir calls you into her office. She's pinching the bridge of her nose again.

"So Betazed lost its mind when you sent the Tauni a flash drive with the Patroller-A schematics, with a sizable dissident faction whipping up the populace who view it as a slap in the face. Unfortunately we don't have a peacekeeper corps--" She pulls out a flask and takes a hit, "--so we sent in the Amarki Gendarmes and suffice to say, they don't know the difference between 'sacred cave of psionic atonement' and 'soul-sucking hell bunker.'"

"Oh my."

"Don't meme me bitch 80 people have died so far."

BETAZOID CRISIS: GO

More seriously if the Betazoids don't like it I imagine they'd block it via the council anyways.

[X][TAUNI] May Provide Constellation-A, and Patroller-A Designs

I think the Constitution-A is too old a design to be a viable gift. The Constellation-A provides a reasonable cruiser/science platform, the Patroller-A gives a cheap frigate.

They could be spied on without their consent, they could be offered something of great value, or they could simply become convinced that it would be a safe way to profit.

The problem is that we don't know this new species that well...

It is not us handing out the information, it is us advising the FDS/Council about which designs/ships Starfleet has no significant concerns about sharing with the Tauni. If Betazoid has issues with such an agreement they should easily able to block such a deal from their side since I highly doubt that the Federation is going to force them to share their tech if they don't want to do so...

Remember this is just some advice on what designs Starfleet thinks would be appropriate to hand over. Betazed could easily veto if they don't want to.

However, they did set a precedent in allowing the Caldonians access to the Patroller-A design, and Starfleet was asked to OK that beforehand.

Why would the Tau'ni hand over our technology over to the Cardassians?

Think real hard about that.

I have no idea. Of course, I have no idea why the Tauni might do anything as we still have precious little experience with them. Look at how long we knew the Caldonians before this Science Cult business started bubbling to the surface.

Probably they don't have anything to do with the Cardassians, but who knows. Maybe the designs would fall into the hands of the Licori or the Sydraxians or the Yrillians or some species we haven't met yet. Maybe the Tauni wouldn't hand the technology over to anyone, but they themselves would do something bad with it.

Secret Sulu Plan for Betazoids

1. Increase prestige of Betazed Defense Force by giving them prominent role during Licori War.

2. Further increase BDF prestige by convincing everyone that their Patroller-A design is envied and desired throughout galaxy.

3. Carried on a wave of popular support for the BDF, a Hawk Councillor is elected for Betazed in the next elections.

4. Pacifist Party Vulcan heads explode. SULU: "Drag your feet next time I ask for ships, I dare you."
