I thought that was Nash's job... Unless I'm misremembering things.

You are. Explorer Corp has always been a RA position, and Nash is a Commodore. The previous guy got promoted to VA when we did our Ops reform, and then we promoted Ainsworth to the slot. Nash was Director of Operations for the EC, and will probably go back to that if she doesn't get another command, but she was never in charge.

Couple of bookkeeping notes: Ked Peddah should be 107/100, 22 from the annual roll for a non affiliate and 25 from prisoner exchange (2315.Q2.M2 arcadian crisis) with Licori
Laio 111/100 +25 from event (2315.Q2.M1 captains log)
Ashidi 50/100 in the end the vote was to only push the Yrillians, Ashidi were supposed to be strikethrough

Question: Laio and Ked Peddah, are they affiliates now?

IF those numbers are correct, then we have only 4 targets for push (Yrillians, Tauni, Obar, and Ashidi). High probability we can pick up at least 1 affiliate, maybe more if we get good rolls and the free diplomatic roll lands well. Yrillians should hit >300 relations, too, which may kick off an event chain or at least strengthen our ties a little much. Given that we OOC know that the Cardassian war is probably not for a bit, we may have the opportunity to actually pull the Yrillians to our side before the war kicks off if we keep pushing.

So... the Odyssey almost goes on an Odyssey? I mean, return time was a fraction of what it cost to Odysseus, and the ship and crew came back whole, but...

You forgot the Gretarians. Poor doggies.

Yeah, it is actually kind of nice to have easier choices. Also Ked Peddah and Laio would be valid targets for a diplo push if we want to try to edge them closer to 300.

Well if Sydraxia breaks the right way we may be able to help them this coming snakepit. I am hoping we get some good information on the situation there.

Bets that the overlords of the Tauni were a race of bodyjacking parasitic eels using the Tauni for hosts?

Honestly everything we've heard so far we don't even known they're humanoid. Their overlords could well be the evil Clorox, who took offense at the natural Tauni color, thinking it means they are dirty.

Yes I went that far for a color joke. Point is, it's early to be assigning references. (Personally I want something relatively weird for Trek, like biological Geth.)

I'm kind of meh on the Cardassian Tactics Report, since unless we commit to a preemptive attempt to wreck their fleet before the new shipyards arrive, the odds are good it won't make much difference in the kind of small actions we'll mostly fight. I'm just not sure what to replace it with.

EDIT: Switching to Akuz.

Why is there no interest in a report answering the question how the Dawiar are feeling that gets wondered about in regular intervalls?

You forgot the Gretarians. Poor doggies.

I've pushed multiple times to go after the Gretarians back when the Sydraxians were at war with us and everyone disagreed. Now that the Sydraxians are reaching out to us, we may as well wait to see if we can normalize relationships with them first and them go after the Gretarians, since we didn't want to piss off the Sydraxians even when we were spilling each other's blood. I will be extra salty if they have a grudge along the lines of "when we needed you, you did not answer us" though. Since that's a legit grievance.

Eh... We're about to get an enormous bolus of members coming up in 2317. Getting races to 100 is important, but I'm happy to let automatic rolls and Captain's Log events push them up the rest of the way.

Oh come now, there won't be that many.... hmm, wait a sec.

Caldonians 500/500 - Awaiting end of moratorium in 2318
Orions 493/500
Gaeni 466/500
Seyek 444/500
Risa 453/500
Qloathi 446/500

Caldonians are guaranteed, so are Orions unless we roll extremely bad both times. The Gaeni, Risans, Seyek and Qloathi also have a good chance of reaching 500 by then or the year after. So by 2320, the Federation could very well consist of 16 species. Adding 12 species in 20 years is certainly.... a thing.
EDIT: Forgot that the Seyek bring the Fiiral with them, so 13 species for a total of 17 species.

Progress on the Romulan-Klingon war seems pointless to me. They aren't even in a formal state of war yet, just some minor skirmishing. Next year there will be more information to go over.

Man, what the heck is with this intel report vote?

We're asking for useless reports again. You know that we're going to be updated generally on the Klingon/Romulan war anyway right? We've gotten that intelligence every time it comes up. And asking for a status update is not actionable anyway.

I concur with Simon_Jester that the Klingon/Romulan War is THE event of our region of space. The outcome of it will upset everything and shape our political/military response for the foreseeable future. It's going to shape the next few decades.

Next to it, the question of who comes out on top in Sydraxian political strife is barely important. Sure we'll probably get some updates even if we don't devote an intelligence report, but Oneiros is fair about these things. If we devote an intelligence report to it, I'm sure we'll get more information and maybe event an Event chain.

Remember too that we ask for reports now and get them in 6 months, so the war may have heated up considerably.

And what's wrong with the regular old diplomatic posture? That's the first thing I'd want out of the Sydraxians, and it would include exactly the same update on the civil strife plus more useful information. Heck, the civil strife could be over by Q4 and then the report is just a nothing report again.

I assume a diplomatic posture report is more external, and a civil strife report is more internal.

Also, if we vote for Cardassian Tactics we should order a second Cardassian report to keep us up-to-date on fleets. We got shipbuilding last time, let's get fleet strength now. If we combine that with a GBZ strength we'd have a good idea what portion of their fleet they're committing.

We did get that report on the whole Ashalla Pact strength at the end of the treaty of Celos. A Cardassian-only report doesn't tell us what their affiliates are contributing.
