Lirpa is such a name mismatch imo, but seems like nothing can stop it from winning at this point. Oh well.

Using a Vulcan Weapon feels wrong? It's a culture that really quite dislikes its weaponry to the point of borderline pacifism. Would prefer the Ushaan-tor, but will go for the Selachii as that seems like the only viable alternate vote atm.

The Vulcans may be pacifistic but they clearly aren't absolutely so. These escorts are here to protect our borders against those who would raid them, and prosecute defensive warfare against those who would attack us outright; in that context I don't think anyone but the most pacifist Vulcan (those who are against any sort of violence whatsoever, even in self defence) would be opposed to the name.

Again it's not especially appropriate right now to select a non-human name, and of all the non-humans choosing a Vulcan name for a pure warship is just an obvious failure of cultural understanding rather than anything that promotes ties.

Changing my vote. On second thought, the people saying that calling it the Lirpa wouldn't really be appropriate kind of have a point.

Honestly I think "Lirpa" just kind of does not have a great cadence as a name. Admittedly Selachii is kind of a mouthful too, but you've got a lot of good shark names to choose from. Spiritually I also like it. This ship is not an antiquated, ceremonial weapon; it's a predator.

A neat trick is that the software allows you to merge various options with the manage votes option. So the QM can have the software automatically merge different versions of Lirpa or Selachii. As far as I can tell this also takes into account things like voting for two different versions of the same thing.
See below for an example. I tried to put it into a spoiler but things acted very strange.
Edit - Turns out it was the preview that was saying it was strange. When I actually posted it works fine in the spoiler.

I think you are the one failing to understand - this is the Federation learning to give Klingons the "Vulcan Hello". It is extremely ideal and shows our growth and understanding of one another as cultures

UFS Lirpa is currently losing to UFS Selachii 54-56 if you combine the separate line votes. Ushaan-tor is in a respectable third with 25 votes.
If you have not voted yet, please vote for Lirpa. Getting other classes named after other species culture should help the Federation not be seen as human dominated.
