Though maybe in this universe Kirk's Enterprise is roughly the equivalent of Kirk starting out with Refit-Enterprise from the beginning. Who knows? TOS is still about 33 years away.

[X] Excalibur-class.

This is purpose-built to serve as a warship first, so it makes sense to adopt a more militant name while still evoking ideals.

Also, the canon Constitution wouldn't come until the 2260s, IIRC, so it feels like Constitution-class wouldn't be respecting that this is a different, unique ship with its own story.

[X] Warspite-class

Defiant and Warspite have a lot of overlap so I may add that later.

To be honest, I find this whole framing odd; there is almost certainly going to be an Enterprise regardless of the class name we pick. The ship is Kirk's Enterprise. That's never not been true.

I appreciate and am sympathetic to some degree that for a very small minority of players, this might be unwelcome. But hopefully making this clear upfront will make it less of a surprise when the next update arrives.

I admire your sympathy, and I wish I still had it. I am quite frankly tired of the name and idealization of the vessel Enterprise at this point; a nigh-mythical ship that's never been intended to fight a war and only explores and goes on Five-Year Missions despite being quite capable of fighting, that this class was never intended to be and that we'll make the next exploration-focused vessel, I promise guys. The squabbling over the name having dragged on over the entire design process of this Project that just bears the name of the class it belongs to has worn me down and down to this point:

I don't want there to be another Enterprise in this quest. Now, I don't care if the name comes up regardless, that's out of my control, but I've just been so soured on the conception that I'm never going to advocate for it.

And thus, I've vented quite enough on the subject.

[X] Excalibur-class

Plenty of names to use, for example.

First Batch (Swords of Legend)
- Excalibur
- Durendal
- Kusanagi
- Muramasa
- Hrunting
- Dyrnwyn
- Green Dragon
- Galatine
- Asi
- Fragarach
- Caladbolg
- Joyeuse
- Angurvadal
- Gram
- Tizona
- Nandaka
- Zulfiqar
- Moralltach

Second Batch (Weapons of Legend)
- Rhongomiant
- Ru Yi Jing Gu Bang
- Kaumodaki
- Kodandam
- Trishula
- Gae Bulg
- Tonbogiri
- Gungnir
- Mjolnir
- Parashu
- Kaladanda
- Sharur

Third Batch (Weapons of Fiction)
- Anduril
- Glamdring
- Grayswandir
- Stormbringer
- Dragonlance
- Wayfinder

And moreover, even with restricting things to legendary swords, several of those names I dropped were actually chosen fairly carefully. For example, Khanda swords are associated with wisdom cutting through ignorance, which is very Starfleet, whilst Téngkōng is said to be able to point towards war.

The point most of us are making is "There will be an Enterprise, and Kirk will be on it, but it won't be one of these" on the assumption that sometime in the thirty to forty odd years between now and when Kirk assumes command of a capital ship we'll have made an actual Explorer (as we have codified them in this timeline) for him to do Five Year Missions with, and one of those will carry The Name™. which. isn't exactly unreasonable.
