Remember we got told the Tholians are making trouble too.

There's gonna be plenty demand for a warship even after the Klingon war, but even if not the fact is we need to survive that war so yes please lets make a warship.

I think the problem is this is being explicitly referred to as the Connie equivalent and I'd rather it actually look nice in comparison.

If this wasn't called out as TTL version of it I wouldn't care as much, but since it is I HATE us going with a half saucer.

Behold, an objectively inferior warship.
Gee, yup, that sure is a warship. It sure does suck compared to what we could build, and it sure will get facerolled by D7s, but yeah, you can slap the "warship" label on whatever the hell you want, I can't stop you.

Nonetheless, I congratulate you for playing the nostalgia card with your big attention-grabbing image, for which there can be no counter.

And I can't stop you from inventing doom scenarios when we know it wasn't as heavily armed as it could be, was more sluggish, and still kicked D-7 ass.

Nice after the fact edit. You got an actual counter?

Sure it'll just be as obsolete as the skate was in a decade or two aswell, congrats.

I mildly like half-saucers anyway, which may or may not be a bit weird, but also if we are voting on purely emotional grounds then I HATE us going with a canon-clone.

Reminder: our phasers are weaker than the OTL in return for having wider firing angles. If we made a clone of the OTL ship, there's no guarantee we'll be able to win the same fights... even assuming the D7 is the same as the OTL, which isn't a safe assumption.

I completely fail to see the problem. The Skate's job was to win us a war for our survival. It did that. This ship's job is to win us another war for our survival. I would very much prefer it did so.

tl;dr I disagree that it will be obsolete and/or useless after the war, but even if it is I don't care.

A warship with more powerful phasors and, to my recollection, stronger shields than we have available, which has a lot of knock on effects. Mostly revolving around the need to rely more heavily on our torpedos and superior engines to achieve similar or better results. Which in turn favours the half saucer... Which may, by some lines of logic, actually leave us with More module space than the canon saucer. Or it might not.

Why would it be obsolete in just a couple decades? What new tech are we going to be getting? The warp engine will be good, the shields will probably be half a generation behind, and the weapons should be pretty modern. The engines might be last-gen, but we should have four of them.

Weaker yes, but we're also going to have a volume/mass and speed advantage over the canon Connie (the former of which could let us get up to refit levels of arming right out of the gate, in number of launchers/emitters if nothing else).

[X] 140 Meter Half-Saucer (140,000 Tons)

I honestly thought we were getting higher maneuverability easily because it's been our big divergent focus over original time line, along with having weaker weapons with move coverage.
