Good catch!

Was just about to offer myself; I think I still have one left from this month's crop of dice.

Gathering info on Kurt Frogtongue
According to stories, gossip, and rumors, Kurt Frogtongue—second son of Faxi Bushybrows, himself the grandson of the legendary Mark Wolfbane, who slew a Fenriskin in single combat at Kinsvbjury in Geatland—was rather popular with the womenfolk in his early manhood before he married Haydis. Given the source of his kenning, there's little wonder why, exactly, he was so popular.

Of course, jealous suitors and angry menfolk put a stop to that quickly by challenging Kurt to a holmgang. Kurt Frogtongue, though far from a renowned fighter, is anything but a coward. But when he showed up to the isle with weapons and courage, there was no one there to meet him as his opponents had gotten rather drunk the night before on pre-celebratory brews. In a show of magnanimity, Kurt offered to keep the whole thing on the downlow by not mentioning any names in the retelling of the story as long as the menfolk forgot about his popularity with their women. With little other choice, they accepted, and, as a consequence, Kurt found himself married to Haydis Slipshoe.

Kurt Frogtongue also has something of a talent for cobblery and even made a pair of shoes for Dorri Rattlespear! It is said that he won the heart of fair Haydis by solving the problem she had with her shoes. No matter how well she tied the laces, her shoes kept slipping off her feet! As it turned out, there was a problem with how the heel gripped her foot and, in tightening that, Kurt solved Haydis' legendary affliction in one fell swoop.

(Kurt provides +1 XP from sparring)

Gathering info on Vagn Wheel-Drifter
According to stories, gossip, and rumors, Vagn Wheel-Drifter—eldest son of Jorm Snowsling, himself the eldest son of Vagn Tallsails—has only one love in his life. Having never taken a woman of any sort, it seems that Vagn gets his fill from the simple act of going ever-faster.

Having been born beyond the Hading Valley, the exploits of his early life are few and far between. Nevertheless, he's let slip some facts about himself after a few drinks. Vagn is not the type to settle down anywhere for long. He quickly grows tired of the same old roads and the same old scenery. Never has he lingered in any one place for more than five years and he is quite eager to get on his way once the shine wears off from his surroundings.

He's bold and ferocious in battle, but has had a rather unfortunate streak of bad luck when it comes to his most recent opponents. With his poor showings fresh on folks' minds, few are willing to linger around the man for fear of his bad luck rubbing off on them.

Hmmm....

I wonder what we can make him that can help him go really fast....

I wonder if we could make a flying chariot...

Gathering info on Dorri Rattlespear - Focus: Fighting Style
According to stories, gossip, and rumors, Dorri Rattlespear is a force to be reckoned with. Capable of laying waste to entire regions on his lonesome, he is a fearsome foe that must be carefully planned around no matter the scheme, for making a foe of him could be disastrous for any plot.

Dorri Rattlespear is said to wield the Realized spear Starshine, a weapon with an edge of Shivering Iron passed down to him through generations. Decorated with dangling rings of red gold, the spear rattles and jangles as it does its dread work. Though Starshine certainly had a hand in how Dorri acquired his kenning, it is far from the only reason behind the name Rattlespear.

Dorri Rattlespear has three combat hugareida, one of which he is said to be a master of. The first is none other than dread Earthquake. A master in its usage, he once forced the walls of a fortress to collapse in on itself during the Riot Wars. He also bears Landslide—an Earth Hugareida—and Acceleration.

Dorri Rattlespear has two Martial Styles, Mirror Waltz and Crushing-Crevice. Mirror Waltz, the landmark style of Kyrsvikingar, involves bouncing hugareida and other attacks at the source, scaling off the strength of the attack. Crushing-Crevice, however, is a ring style currently in the possession of Dorri himself. It is said that he's done little to help spread the usage of it, allowing it to slowly fade out of public perception. Whether that's because he has some issue with it or not is unclear.

Whenever he takes to the battlefield, it is best to stay out of his way as he lays low whole swathes of the enemy. Credited with over three hundred kills, he is death on legs and any warrior should think twice before challenging a master like him.

He fights with shield and spear, a master of offense and defense fully capable of swapping between the two on the fly. With a wicked intelligence and sharp eyes, it is said that though he is a beast of combat, his greatest strength lies in his ability to read his foes and develop counter-strategies with seaming ease.

Dibs, dibs, I call DIBS!

You hear that Corpsemaker?

The sacred rite of dibs has been invoked!!

Alright, I'm probably going to transition fully to the every-other-day posting schedule because that just works better for me. First day is spent plotting and writing while the next is writing and finishing things up.

Honestly I think this is a really good idea.

A daily update pace is simply not sustainable long term, and you don't want to start to hurt your own motivation for writing the quest by constantly being in crunch mode.

Do we really want that spear? Imagine the fate some poor fool might suffer if they looted Sagaseeker off our corpse and ask yourself if you want to suffer that fate.

Oh no, I don't care about the spear. We can give it as a gift or something, maybe to Dorri's next of kin, help try and allay any feud.

I was talking about the chance of GLORIOUS SINGLE COMBAT with Dorri!

He sounds really strong, I'm getting excited already!

I am, as always, against any unnecessary single combat (we bring friends if possible) for a wide array of practical reasons. And even narratively, having at least Sten and Eric there seems really likely, they have as much right as Halla.

That said, I think the odds of us fighting Dorri approach certainty. Narratively, Corpsemaker solving him for us outright would be deeply unsatisfying, so it seems unlikely.

We're actually not a bad matchup in some sensees, he's got some scary-ass Hugareida, but none of them are especially well suited to attacking someone who stays in the air. The real issue is Mirror-Waltz, which we have no real response to aside from getting into his killbox or developing attacks that can't be bounced back for one reason or another, without having to close in and enter his killbox.

It would be nice to have some of the other characters we have met take some of the spotlight in combat.

Abjorn especially.

Man, that's such a great style....
I want it, but too bad we can't learn it....
This is especially strong with the earthquake and possibly accelerate though, because the style definitely can multiple the first and if it works with the second.... yeah, Dorri will be quick, but if he can bounce accelerate that's a nightmare.

And thats just the hugreida, i imagine He has a lot of either quick or mass attacks too, to bounce and multiply with the Style

No, you're misunderstanding. From previous stuff from IF on Mirror Waltz, it doesn't let him bounce his own attacks, it lets him bounce other people's attacks back at them. Which is still really good mind you...maybe even better, but it's not what you're envisioning. You need an opponent's attack to reflect (hence the Mirror thing).

Actually a possible hard counter to mirror waltz might be just Standstill. You can bounce back a standstill.
It could also prove pretty good against acceleration.
Earthquake actually sounds more like the firestorm earth hugareida-great massive, hyper are effect but less good for single target

I think bouncing Standstill probably works, though it is a pretty decent counter for Acceleration. And Earthquake might well be the Firestorm equivalent, yeah, but he's also got Landslide so his 'personal scale' Earth Tricks are still gonna be solid. I'd also bet on him having a Spear Hugareida. We've seen ourselves how hanging out with a Realized weapon tends to grant that, or allow the Realized item to fake it, or both.

My first thought on how to beat Mirror Waltz is just that it probably counts as a counterattack, and you can counter those, but you can't bounce back and forth, so if we respond to any use of it with Contested Movement we might be able to manage something (since that ends the possible counterattack chain with an attack targeting Dorri).

Hmm, how would you guys describe Halla's fighting style?

Aggressive versatility. She tends to go hard offensively and take advantage of her huge Capacity to have a bunch of different options in what particular manner she does so. She certainly also has defenses, and strong ones, but they mostly tend to be less active and some of them (like Contested Movement) double as offense as well.

Gathering Info on Halla Sunshine

According to stories, gossip, and rumors, Halla Sunshine, Seeress of the Hading Valley - Second daughter of Captain Steinarr Freedfire, himself the youngest son of Hallr Blackhand - Is a woman of many talents. Recently gaining the title of Seeress following the passing of the Seeress Solrun, Halla is also a noted smith and warrior.

Halla wields the Realized atgeir Sagaseeker, a weapon with an edge of Storm Iron said to have been forged by the Seeress herself. She wears the armor Emberguard, also forged by herself.

Halla Sunshine has the Stoker State Martial Style and at least 7 combat Hugareida, including Ignition, Standstill, Sword, Atgeir, Gale, Emberwind and Firestorm. She tends to fly in combat on wings of fire - She also has the kenning Skyfire - and is relentless in her attacks, as well as having a library of Hugareida tricks at her disposal. Halla usually responds to attacks against her with brutal counterattacks. In combat, her great threat is her versatility, adaptability and ability to come up with new tactics on the fly.

Halla Sunshine is known for her merciful heart and knowledge of Seidr - She mends wounds even for her once-enemies, and is credited with 'Life-Bringer' after bringing back many bodily dead freely once. It is unwise to bring Seidr to bear against her, as she can and has unravelled hostile Seidr fairly swiftly. She also has Seersight, though exactly what form is unknown.

Halla's noted feats include slaying the Abjorn Hooknails in the throes of Berserkergang in single combat, defeating the Jotun Helkr in a duel of riddles, and then later slaying Helkr with the aid of Careful-Stepper.

===

This is what I imagine we would see from 'the other side of the curtain' so to speak.

It depends on how the style works exactly, but conceptually it might not be possible to bounce- standstill is, well, stillness. its lack of motion, of change, even time. its things standing at their spot. you can't bounce back something that is in its essence unmoving.
in the physics terms too, if we regard bouncing as reversing direction/time/ a proccess, standstill has in its definition a change of 0. its still. thus reversing it keeps it exactly the same.
of course, since tricks like inertia arresting throw do move, one can argue its possible to bounce that motion, but conceptually it feels wierd. its still possible, but worth researching.

and we can try to spar with Eric- he has the style right? he can't tell us how to defeat the style really, but he can probably do some things without breaking his oath? we might also be able to get Corpsemaker to allow us to learn some of the flaws of the style, in return for some favor, granted we use it to kill Dorri. we share an enemy after all, and he is probably allowed to freely talk of the style

I really love this, but Halla isn't Steinnar's youngest child. she is the youngest of the adult ones though
