I suppose I'm doing this guy then. I don't even remember who this is!!!

Hakon Thunderclap, younger brother of Haklangr the Large and Haleikr Underfoot (the former killed by Horra, the latter by the Threaded elephant while aiming for revenge), has a bloodline associated with Thor, and is planning on romancing Audrikr's younger sister IIRC. So a good roll there is pretty interesting.

The rolls total out like this:

Stigmar: 49
Tryggr: 72
Trausti: 28
Vagn: 47
Kare: 78
Ingolf: 82
Eysteinn: 73
Alvis: 08
Hakon: 73
Trygve: 72
Magni: 83

Not too bad except for Trausti and Alvis. Vagn and Stigmar also did meh, but meh may be enough?

I wonder what this roll even means for people who don't want to get married, like if any of them are gay...high should still be good, but I'm curious.

Hey Halla!

1) Has Abjorn hit Stage 1 yet? Has he done Hamr, Hugr or Fylgjur Infusions?
2) Does the idea of 'casting' a Seidr spell into an item make sense?
3) What about making an item that can cast a single, specific Seidr spell you know?
4) Have you taught your friends, family and hird about stuff like Alloying having a much larger scope than just Hugareida, stuff like that?
5) Do you know if Audrikr Fishfighter's oaths are to Folkmarr Manetaker or to Dorri?
6) What's your Winrate% in your communal sparring?
7) Would it be insulting to challenge Halfdan to a spar?
8) Are your children old enough that you could teach them stuff like Eyetalk and Follower finds a Friendly Fellow?
1. Maybe? He seems to not really put much effort into it, like he's perfectly content with where he's…

Well, shit.
2. Yeah
3. Nah
4. They already know, for the most part. Some of them didn't, but the Vestfolders did
5. Dorri, Audrikr is a member of his Hird, after all
6. Unattempted
7. Probably not
8. Probably

Just so people are aware, we're probably doing a mechanics change here for the QM's peace of mind (the current system is...a bit unwieldy), which has been discussed on Discord. Details to follow as the situation develops.

Brief Announcement
Sorry for the radio silence, but I've had some issues that have taken—and will continue to take—some time to work through.

So, for those not in the Discord, I've hit a bit of a brick wall when it comes to the mechanics of the quest. For the sake of my sanity and the health of the quest, I and my helpers are working to implement the mechanics we've developed for NQ2, which are vastly simplified. As such, I'm going to need to put NorseQuest on a brief hiatus while we convert and assemble the mechanics into a working format.

Sorry for having to do this, folks, but I've not got much choice in the matter.

As an olive branch, here's the research for this turn.

Planting a curious plant
Neither the coffee nor the hashish takes in your soul. But, then again, it might be because both of them seem processed in nature. The coffee is ground into a fine powder while the hashish is, well, hashish. It's a bit like a crumbly loaf of bread, after all.

Bolt Thrower Sten
The plans to the bolt thrower are delivered on in the inside of a roll of buckskin. Unrolling it reveals the instructions to manufacture your very own bolt thrower, though it does take quite some time to get all the calculations right on tensile strength, by the looks of things.

Regardless, according to the diagram, it'll cost about, oh, thirty-six ounces of iron, wood, and cordage to craft one of these bad boys. You can, of course, change some aspects of the final result by using different materials.

Adding Animals to Soulscape
As soon as you add animals to your Soulscape, it seems to come alive in a way it never has before. Where as before the spirits merely meandered about and occasionally bumped into each other like ships without a sail, now they stand with sails stretched taut by the wind!

Urged on by spirits of the feast, deer and other animals chew on the grasses grown by spirits of the earth as they, in turn, beg the spirits of the hunt to send wolves to their aid. Deer spirits, outraged by the deaths, rush to their homes to devise new methods of protecting their charges.

This... This feels *right* in that odd way so many things often do.

It took some time, but you've finally managed to both learn Slavic and teach your Slavic employees Norse.

Sagaplate
The armor glistens in the sun as you set the final pieces in place. Blood drips from your hand as you color the runes red. Power surges as a connection is formed, the runes working their magic well.

It's done. You've done it. Sagaplate... It's finally complete.

Now all that's left is to test it in the field!

Storing things in Soulscape House
Upon entering the house in your soulscape, you're met by a spirit clamoring for your attention. It's one of the deer spirits that accompanied the deer and other animals that you brought in and it is rather cross. Waving its arms about, it explains that it can't get any work done because those damned wolf spirits keep sending their mangy mutts after its deer!

Blackhand chuckles as you do your best to calm the spirit down, "The home of a ruler, Halla, is less a place of rest and more a place of work."

You're beginning to see that, yeah.

Regardless, the idea of storing things in your soulscape house seems to have merit.

Alvis Torleifsson
According to news, stories, and rumors, Alvis Torleifsson is...

A complete non-entity. Nobody has ever heard of him before, nor had they even seen him until you brought him with you.

Very, very odd.

Trygve Ironoath
According to news, stories, and rumors, Trygve Ironoath—second son of Tornir Stormoath and younger brother to Rikhvatr Strongbite—is a rather stoic man who takes life seriously. He doesn't have much time for joking around as he's always careful to only say what he really, truly means.

As Trygve is also a generally considerate person, he has very little in the way of enemies. As fate would have it, one of Trygve's enemies is his own brother Rikhvatr. After their father died, the pair had a falling out over how their inheritance would be split. It got so bad that iron was bared and words were exchanged that neither can take back. To make amends for what he said, Trygve gave up his portions of the inheritance to his brother and effectively ended the feud.

Of course, neither brother is overly fond of the other for obvious reasons.

Alloying Sharpen and Firebomb Strike
While Sharpen and Firebomb Strike do, in fact, Alloy, it seems that the result isn't the most useful. As Firebomb Strike creates an explosion upon impact and Sharpen improves the cutting ability of a weapon, all that happens is the effects cancelling each other out.

Sword-Stepping
How does one gain deeper understanding of anything, let alone weapons?

By asking a question and seeking out all the answers it has.

What is the purpose of a weapon?

Oh man IF! You're such a tease!

Thanks for letting us know. As the person responsible for the single most consistent quest on the site. Taking a break to finagle mechanics to make updates easier on your part is chil.

Fair enough on the coffee. The Hashish was explicitly seeds, though. See here.

Well. That's odd and worth asking him about.

This feels like something that could be a gamechanger for the Norse if it could get more widespread. However, if it needs odr to actually craft it, then its potential goes from "eventually as ubiquitous as shapecrafting" to "some mystical technique that died with its forger".

We haven't been charged any Odr at any stage for creating it, so it shouldn't require it. Just knowledge and expertise. It costs permanent Orthstirr to use so it's sort of 'emergencies only', but it's not restricted to Odr users in any way.

I wonder if Sagaplate will eventually be seen as a sign of a Drengr, since having high Drengskapr should let people offset the Orthstirr sacrifice required to use it.

Well, now we need to see what we can do with the Bolt Throwers.

Maybe we can make some prototypes and start selling them in the Valley? Or directly sell the schematics for an higher price?

If we manage to spread this in the Norse lands, it would be pretty nice.

Finnaly its complete!

Now we only need to test it and see how it works, maybe against that Owlbear.

Then we will also have to write down the process to forge it, to make sure its not forgotten with Halla death.

Well, adding animals to the Soulscape was the right idea.

But now that Halla has inhabitants in her Soulscape, she needs to start acting like a ruler.

I want to see how we can solve this dispute, and maybe organize better our Soulscape.

Maybe we can make some Spirits our vassals and give them some land to start working?

On a very different note, should we try and gather rumors about Halla herself? Not personally, buy incognito/via someone else. It can be important to know how we are seen

Nornir Living (Shard)
Nornir Living

What do the Nornir do?

A lot.

"I think Ymir edited the part to let the Jomsvikings onto Gotland."

"Are you kidding me? This island isn't surviving that fight."

"It's nine Steelfathers on one end and Ilmarinen's Fire on the other end."

"All right fine, I'm ordering another island from IslandMakers.Co, what's happening?"

"Do you remember when Hallr did the Charred Soul thing?"

"Yeah, he did some real wacky shit but we eventually approved it. What's happening?"

"Well it kinda looks like his soul is exploding and based on the deal here, each bit has Charred Soul-"

"Oh. How many are there?"

"Looks like nine bits-"

"Of course. Nine. Of course. Of course. How much work is tha.. oh you've got to be kidding me."

===

"There's a plot hole here."

"Isn't Halla supposed to know why-"

"Ymir edited the bits where they told her why."

"Can we write Ymir out of the story already?"

"Sigh. You already know why we can't do that."

===

"Okay Skuld, I've got the base for Gotland 2.0 set up. How are things on your end?"

"I was just thinking, Urd, maybe we let Halla visit Gotland before it's time? She's got the ashes of Steinarr, based on the timeline this is pretty much the only opportunity we're getting if we want one of the last sons of Gotland ashes be spread over Gotland."

"Sure thing Verdandi. Let me just open space and time and let Halla visit. Wait, is that Absalom Careful-Stepper visiting?"

"Absalom doesn't hurt things, he's fine, let it pass. Wait, shit, sisters, we forgot about the Jotnar following Halla."

"Now, no worries, we are very feared beings, they probably will just - Oh are you kidding me he just destroyed that rock I spent 3 days working on, did he just say he is going to destroy Gotland before it's born."

"What if we just kill him?"

"His Fated Day is-"

"Bring it forward."

"Wait, Halla's not a Hero yet and Absalom doesn't kill-"

"I think we can add Absalom's heroism score to Halla for this attack, he's sort of helping her, that counts enough."

===

"Solrun, what are you doing. Solrun, stop. Solrun, I had TEN PAGES OF BACKGROUND MATERIAL FOR YOUR EMOTIONAL SCENES BETWEEN YOU AND KOLLA AND AKI SET UP. SOLRUN NO."

"It's too late."

"I HAVE TO REDO EVERYTHING. AGAIN. WITHOUT SOLRUN. HOURS OF WORK. GONE. WHY ARE NORSEMEN LIKE THIS."

---

AN: I think the Nornir are kind of overworked given what they have to do (manage all the under-the-hood-stuff for the Norse Sagas to go off properly). At least they get free dental?

(Note that the Nornir do not speak. But it's fun to imagine it.)
