So, Halla can now plant coffe in her fields?
Not at all the right climate. Probably better off planting them in her soul.
We can plant the coffee in the fields adjacent to our copious amount of weed we are growing in our soul.
This seems like a reasonable plan, yes.

Halla's theme tune slowly becoming:

Does Havsir have a Kenning yet? It's a bit odd he still doesn't have one and yet he's one of the top people in the Valley.

I got the roll, let's see if my luck stands up sans stigmar.

Edit: 30 successes? I think.

Sorry, folks, but life got in the way on this one. I'm not going to be able to finish today's update, unfortunately.

I heard we're spending reward dice for our pals Stigmar and Abjorn? And there's something special this turn due to Folkvangr? If so, lemme pitch in.

e: woaaaaaah
Shard threw 2 3-faced dice. Reason: Stigmar Total: 4

Hey Halla!

1) Has Abjorn hit Stage 1 yet? Has he done Hamr, Hugr or Fylgjur Infusions?
2) Does the idea of 'casting' a Seidr spell into an item make sense?
3) What about making an item that can cast a single, specific Seidr spell you know?
4) Have you taught your friends, family and hird about stuff like Alloying having a much larger scope than just Hugareida, stuff like that?
5) Is Time 'frozen' when you put something in a Fylgja, Pocket or Fast? Like if you put something that would spoil inside them do they.. not.. spoil?
6) Do you know if Audrikr Fishfighter's oaths are to Folkmarr Manetaker or to Dorri?

It's kind of interesting that the Weapon can apparently end the Curse of Steel, given that it's a personification of stasis, and the Weapon is thematically about being good at killing things. One wouldn't expect killing to be the opposite or negation of stasis or stagnation, necessarily, rather than growth or new life, but I suppose it's part of the same thing, death allowing space for the new? Plus the connection between Steel and immortality, I suppose, although Steelfathers not actually being immortal sort of throws a wrench in that.

I wonder if the Curse of Steel has some sort of spirit or psychopomp which literally needs to be killed in order to end the curse?

Cain's murder weapon is unspecified (but probably either a rock or some sort of farm implement). The 'jawbone of an ass' thing if from the story of Samson.
I actually was already aware that in the original biblical text the murder weapon is unspecified. However, folk tradition dating back to at least the seventh century A.D. indicates that the weapon was a jawbone of an ass. Since then, said traditional depiction has been used by everyone from Shakespeare to Supernatural.

Given the legend's pedigree, I figured that there was a decent chance that the tale was valid for this quest. Doesn't hurt that the "jawbone of an ass" theory isn't exactly mutually exclusive with the "agricultural implement" theory. The tale of Cain and Abel is set well before the discovery of metallurgy by humanity. As such a scythe or sickle would be made from bone, perhaps even a jawbone of an ass. In fact, such farm implements have been discovered during excavations of Near Eastern Stone Age settlements. Unless I'm misreading the University of Notre Dame Medieval Institute blog post I'm getting almost all of this from, ancients did replace the donkey teeth with flint blades though.

Saying that folk tradition indicates it as a jawbone is a bit of a misleading statement. Some folk traditions indicate that, and not always that of an ass, but others hold that it was a hoe, or a shovel, or Abel's own sacrificial knife, or that he strangled him, or even bit him to death with his own teeth. I personally hadn't run into that particular folk tradition at all or I would have framed my dissent slightly differently, but looking up actual references (including what I suspect is the same University of Notre Dame thing), does not convince me that there is anything approaching a consensus on what was used in the folklore. Quite the opposite.

Now, it is the dominant one in Anglo-Saxon and thus English tradition specifically, but that's a very specific cultural context, particularly in something like NQ where England is not exactly the biggest player on the world stage culturally.

[X] Talk to Stigmar

Given that Hasvir's with his grandfather and Abjorn is with his family, there's not much else for you and Stigmar to do other than talk.

"So," Stigmar purses his lips as he sits down at your side, the crackling hearthfire light playing off his almost excited face, "how'd the conversation go with Hasvir?" He pauses a moment before adding, "Hadinghero, that is. Hasvir Hadinghero."

"I gathered," a sly grin quirks up at the corners of your mouth, "but, to answer your question, it went..." The smirk falls into a frown as you sigh, "at least I've got an actual goal to work towards."

Stigmar grimaces as he rubs at his knees, "That bad, huh?"

"Thereabouts, yeah. How'd yours go?"

Stigmar's face brightens up significantly at your question as a big smile stretches from one end of his face to the next. "As it turns out," he begins slowly, clearly trying to rein himself back from stumbling over his words. You can't help but think of Stigr in moments like this, when the family resemblance shines through clear as day, "my mother's side of the family has a naturally stronger control over their hugareida, which explains why I can do things like this!"

With a wave of his hand, a wave of clay conjures forth as it falls upon the ground in a great big lump. From the pile of gray comes arches and columns as a near-perfect recreation of Winchester rises. It's even got banners flapping in the 'wind'!

Your brows lift as you stare, hints of sickly jealousy making themselves known in your gut. Given the nature of fire, your control over your hugareida isn't exactly the best. As such, it's something you've never bothered to try and develop.

But upon seeing that fortress? Well, you're left wishing you'd spent more time working your control. Oh the things you could do had you that talent!

Stigmar beams like a light shining through a thick bank of dark clouds, "Cool, huh?"

"Very," with an exertion of willpower, you squash the nascent jealousy and cast it off into the depths. You won't let your envy get in the way of Stigmar's joy, not today.

By the time Abjorn and Hasvir return and you grab hold of the Hading's power once more, the inside of the house is covered in miniature buildings, scenes, and all sorts of diorama.

Exploration in the hills (Hamingja: 31) 31 Successes
It is as you send your fylgja flying through the hills near your home that you sigh and shift it towards the outer hills. After all, you've already explored all there is to see in the hills close b-

A trail of scorched grass draws your gaze as a curious creature trundles across the hillside. With a head like an owl, a feathered body in the shape of a bear, and an aura of eager flames, the monster roams across the landscape without a care in the world.

...You'll have to take care of this eventually, or else it'll happen upon your sheep grazing in the hills.

But hey, it appears to be a good target for imbibing!
