--[X] Cover and Binding for our Book (+16 successes from Tools/Workshop)
Is it too late to add in the traditional book preface which would have stuff like

"In honor of my parents, Steinarr and Asveig, my husband Abjorn, and my beloved children whom I hope this is of aid to", etc.
--[X] Try and carefully invert Ignition away from ourselves and see what it does – 1 Research
---[X] Switch all Ignition effects from +6 damage to adding dice when we do this, then back afterwards, and make sure we have, like, 10 layers of Reinforce Shield up.
And maxed out Damage Reduction Shapeshfits.

Perhaps add "Expected result is something like an implosion or ice effect (or both)."

Perhaps test out Inverted Ignition + Kindle Spinner on a distant unlucky tree?

We obviously don't want to get a Finale-like result as we did with TSS, because that might be actually dangerous.
--[X] Put three Hearthberries, honey, and water in our Brewery Pocket again like last time.
Should we put in 1 unit of Odr?

I don't think we need to micromanage that. Also, a dedication like this is sort of ahistorical, I think. Books in this era didn't exactly have a dedication page...we'll definitely talk about them in a 'why we wrote this book' way, but not as, like, a separate entry.

I highly doubt a 4 damage attack is suddenly gonna do more than 10 damage when inverted, and it'd need to do more like 15 to more than scuff us with 10 layers of Reinforced Shield. And I already specified we do it away from ourselves. We didn't just invert Standstill and suddenly get a finale, we inverted it with that finale's effect in mind. Experimentation like this should be fine, and I'd honestly be more worried about being ambushed while our Shapeshifts are badly assigned more than the experiment going that badly awry...I'll add wearing our armor as a salve to paranoia, I guess. That'd be useful either way.

Should we put in 1 unit of Odr?

I think not, honestly. That might change the effects quite a bit, and I think we want one batch with the original ones.

isnt it better to wait with the crafting until we improve the workshop?
--[X] Ask Solrun about the mountain of metal and that whole thing. She's not likely to know the martial style itself, but she might know who or what it's based on.
can we also ask Solrun about our/Blackhand family? with Steinnar dead and Blackhand gone, she is the one most likely to know about Steinnar's mother

also don't we wanna start working on Sunfire?

I personally doubt it's related to Steinarr's mom, but that's mostly based in the ooc logic that it would be impossible to guess since all we know is her name.

I mean, if we want to put things off indefinitely for +1 success, sure. That doesn't seem necessary to me.

We could, but that's probably another question. Maybe next turn...though asking her about Steinarr's mother is also a bit awkward as they did not get along.

At the moment we're missing Blackhand and thus our best source on what Sunfire Tricks would actually do, and possibly his bonus on learning Fire Hugarieda stuff...I think waiting for him to come back is the way to go on this.

I mean. asking in regards to the mountain of metal. not even specifically Steinnar's mother, but as part of the question ask her if she has any idea where in our lineage it could have come from. she knows more about it then us

@Imperial Fister
1) How much Nid would it be for a Norseman to, not showing their face or name and acting purely through messengers, to invite a raid over to kill one of your neighbors? (As implied by Alarik)
2) Is there any guidelines for Seidr divination we should follow, given we are designing our own answers and all?

A fair amount

Not really, it's pretty freeform. However, doing the same ritual multiple times can potentially draw different results, depending on a variety of variables—such as culprit, spirit contacted, and such things.

I'll call voting in an hour and a half

Do we know if he even had Sunfire? It might be an Alloy that he didn't use? And from past bits with IF in the thread it seems like he's been encouraging us to try and come up with our own Tricks rather than just asking people to make them for us.

Re: the talk on core/ring Style warband stuff, I think that's probably stuff we just have to make. Not rely on others to make it for us, we have to put in the time and effort if we wanna make warband secrets to pass down. Blackhand might be able to help with advice, but I think the answer we would ultimately get would be 'work to create it' and 'find inspiration for it'.

It seems like another of the myriad paths to increase power we could follow with time and effort. All styles have to be made, and we know a bit about how they're tied to the world and places/things/cultural moors. It's likely that some may have already been made in times.

Could we make a Sunna Style, anchored to Norse cultural and religious moors regarding the sun? What would such a style look like, and what would we want it to do?

actually, since those things might be interesting to see for inspiration: re sunfire, lets look at it for a second. Sól/Sunna is a healer and someone who promotes growth, but is also a protector who without the world would burn up into endless flame.

Sunna is also known for her speed but also restraint: she is forever pursued by the wolf Skoll, but she is the fastest in the sky, and yet she never moves faster than she needs to, allowing her steeds and her to never tire in their endless fleeing. When Skoll rushes faster she moves just a little faster than that, when he slows she allows herself to slow just enough, though eclipses are viewed as times when she misjudged and was injured by Skoll.

She was also viewed as the Dwarf Killer and disliked intensely by them; because her rays turned them to stone and brought them death.

So what would Sunfire do, if it calls upon similar ideas as what the sun was viewed as?

I might theorize it'd the opposite of our Firestorm Alloy. Firestorm is about these wide sweeping extremely powerful devastating effects. Maybe Sunfire is fire tempered with Restraint - fire that doesn't leave everything around it a burning mess, but instead is focused on less collateral damage, only harming who it means to.

It could be growth enhancing flames: either literally through healing type stuff, or as a form of Tricks to provide buffs to your own or others capabilities. Maybe wherever our Sunfire touches, our friends grow healthier and or stronger.

It could also just call upon speed: what is faster than Sunlight. And I mean this in both a modern sense and in that Sol was explicitly an extremely fast Goddess. It could just be the quickest flames in the North!

The view of the Sun as the protector of rhe world from flames thst would devour it without the Sun being there is probably the one I'd most readily borrow for a Style, but might not for the hugaredia. Though protective flames could work.

Or it could be a mix of multiple of these elements, or even all of them. Maybe it's restraint and growth, harming our enemies and growing our allies, or restraint and speed, allowing us to make small but incredibly focused and fast attacks with it.

Honestly this whole post is just sponsored by me loving to read things.

I think IF told us that Sunfire is pretty much Plasma based magic, what happens if you don't have Ilmarnien's Fire but still want the Hottest Thing You Can Get. It's apparently really expensive on Orthstirr but does stupid amounts of damage.

That's interesting. It doesn't seem based on anything the Norse actually viewed the Sun as, which is a neat observation to make, since it means it's not just cultural views on the thing in question that tinge our powers. It seems more based on our actual knowledge of the sun in modern times.

There's a separate Sunlight Hugareida that does a lot of the other things you were mentioning, but that's in the Weather tree rather than Fire.

, I think that's probably stuff we just have to make.
While we might want to make some martial arts (because martial arts are a big power boost) learning what s already exist is easier we just need to find them and fulfill the requirements (which can be lessened with the rewrite power) for example I do want to learn beserkergang (I hope I wrote that right) and there are other martial arts we might qualify for.

In Carolingian cultivation you think what Decade you're on is what influences lifespan or is it just Zeal cultivation that makes live them on the century based timescale?

I think we can be confident that it isn't Fervor that increases lifespan at the very least since that would be far to easy for us to get.

We do know he had it, yeah. And that still leaves the matter of the bonus and his general advice.

@Imperial Fister before the vote ends, do any of our Training Items apply to the Odr Drip thing, is it a Trick or a Spell, how does that work?

I mean, it can probably do more then just that, no Hugareida is limited to one trick. it might have a fireshield or plasma aura thing, maybe an armor melting or dr piercing effect. its probably around the really hot fire, or plasma, or stuff. but that certainly leaves room to work with

I do think it might be good to come up with our own tricks, but we can probably wait to get some general direction from Blackhand before that. just what is the Hugareida is good for. we probably want some Sunfire ready for tournament, but we can probably get at least a few tricks to refined within 2 turns if we really try. any idea for a Sunfire training item?

do you think its possible to create tricks using two hugareida at once? like a Sunfire+gale trick?

not an alloy, note. a trick using both

Sunfire is probably not worth a Training Item. With maybe 3-4 Tricks at most and Blackhand's bonus, we'd only save a very minimal amount of xp by getting one (it would save us 1 xp per Refined Trick, 3 xp per Mastered, and 6 xp per Perfected, which isn't nothing, but also, probably between 3-10 xp total...that's likely not worth an action). To want a Fire Hugareida Training Item, it needs to be one we'll be learning a whole bunch of Tricks in, which Sunfire likely doesn't qualify for.

And I think using Sunfire in a tournament might be a bad call. Too much damage. That's what we know about what it does, by the way, very expensive very big damage. I'd like a bit more than that to go on in terms of Trick advice, though.

Something that melts the opponents metal armor and traps them in molten armor for damage over time would be fun. Could be especially useful against Knights who utilize more armor than the average even rich Viking.

Knightly Armor can be fixed by an effort of will and maybe expenditure of Zeal. Destroying it is worthwhile, as that costs resources, but people aren't gonna get trapped in it.
