Oh yeah, so reading back, this guy is definitely a prick, and this was actually foreshadowed. Honestly, I think there's a fair chance he's being unreasonable here partly as a way of getting back at Halla for making him back down earlier. Plus side, Halla ranked him last in line among the dudes in the our Felag in strength, and the fact that he backed down makes me wonder if he's he's more talk than action. I guess we'll see if we get to find out.

Yeah, there was a reason I said I might be biased, because he's an actual asshole. I don't think we should underestimate him, though.... he did get an invite after all, and he's in the same power bracket as us.

The low conflict option is to just grab the Claws or Frenzy-Fast...the Claws would be immediately useful (well, relatively immediate), while the Frenzy-Fast would be useful in experimentation.
Low conflict would be grabbing nothing besides the pelt we auto-got.
It's the principle of the thing. I'd personally prefer we rest up and replenish our Orthstirr before fighting him, but we should have time for that and I'm willing to do it if he's gonna be a dick.
Sadly it seem being a dick is kinda his thing.
The last person besides yourself is a real ass by the name of Skoll the Hasty. He has a spear, axe, sax, and also shield. The first thing he did upon meeting you was openly ogle your chest. The next thing he did was open his mouth—likely to make a fatal error—but you put a stop to that by coating Sagaseeker in lightning. The implicit threat was enough to force him away, but something tells you that he'll be trouble later.

It's honestly a good thing that Abjorn isn't here, as few things anger him more then you suffering insults. If he had killed this 'Skoll' for the insult, he would've broken the felag bond and likely be declared an outlaw.

You can eat as many as you want and it does not necessarily mean that you'll get a hugareida. In fact, this one won't give you a hugareida.
huh.
*removes half of the already written post*
Well, wonder what it will give instead.

Nut-Cracker my favored trait. Sooooooonnnn. Soooooon.
Two more time and you will be BORN!
Beware men for we shall teach this to ALL WOMEN!

Edit: When did we find out about Frenzy Organs? (Honestly explains why berserks need shapeshifter and a surgery)

Oh yeah, he's solidly in the bracket of fighter who I think we stand a solid chance of beating with like, the right strategy to neutralise his strengths and play to our own. But by the same token if we mess up with our planning and he plays to his strengths, he could definitely roll us as well. Down to whoever plays their hand better.

That Acceleration Hugareida feels like it would be interesting to fight with Standstill, honestly. They're sort of thematic opposites.

I feel like Skoll is the absolute bane of people who are significantly slower than him and don't have some way of shrugging his attacks off completely (like Abjorn would). Like, he's Speed 5 or 6 and vs. people at Speed 1 or 2 that's some deadly shit, especially on an archer since he can kite people without good ranged options.

We, on the other hand, have Speed 4 (using our various stuff), ranged options, and the ability to cover ground a lot faster than our Speed alone would indicate with EWC and Flashfire Cleave. I do not think we're his favored prey here, though his Speed advantage does mean he's not completely hosed (I'm pretty sure if we exceeded his Speed, we'd just straight up wreck him). I'd say our odds in a fight are good, but not to get cocky.

Anyhoo, prize resolution aside, I'm looking forward to the boost with Nut-Cracker (hopefully we'll finally get the boon), and other benefits of our feat today.

We're only at 6/9, so we probably don't complete it, though doing this might count for two progression given the dramatic nature of it? But yeah, I'm looking forward to our gains here. I want to know how much meat we got, for one thing, so I can stop being worried about feeding everyone (it's likely enough, but I'm not positive).

Don't forget Abjorn taught us the Glima technique that would absolutely fuck over someone with their own speed.

Use Barbed Tongue to rile him up for melee and then crush him.

It feels like if we can get him stuck in an IAT, or goad him into coming in close where we trigger Contested Movement, then either would be decisive. (Although it will be interesting to see if his Acceleration Hugareida "fights" our Standstill, and if that leads to a Muna?) Equally though if he can keep peppering us with arrows, I think we can't completely shrug them off, and it might start to tell in his favour. Kindle-Spinners are good, but we're not a ranged specialist like he is, so I expect that a prolonged ranged duel would favour him.

However as you say, I think our ranged options and flight should let us get in his face enough to have a decent chance to stop that from happening. Hallaa could easily present him a Sophie's Choice of running face-first into a Kindle Spinner, or letting her get closer, and all she needs is to get close enough to throw IAT. Definitely a fight we could lose if we played it wrong or got cocky as you say, but I think we'd stand a fair chance.

Even in a ranged duel, his attack against the Fenriskin did 5 damage...our Kindle Spinners do 8. I think that a ranged duel does favor him slightly, but when two of our attacks hitting equal better than three of his hitting us, I'd say the odds don't favor him nearly as much as he'd prefer. He may have attacks that do more than that, but if they did more with no down sides, he would've used one there so 5 is his 'default'.

My actual hope (if it comes to a fight) is that we can make it a formal Holmgang, which takes place in an enclosed space (surrounded by people usually), meaning he'd have to go melee. We then pop Mire Ward and proceed to wreck him. Like, I'm real skeptical he can handle a melee fight with Halla with his speed halved. I guess if he has some 'freedom of movement' effect he might shake that off, but melee in a small area would still be better than ranged by a whole lot.

What's Skoll's power level? Much as I'd like the heart, picking a fight with someone who turns out to be a badass or have powerful connections would suck

Same category as us. The higher powered people are Heima Smiles and Nain Rotting. Those are also the only two with known group affiliations (Nain is part of the Headman's Hird and Heima is a member of the Kyrsvikingar).

Skoll is also, relevantly, not a berserk, unlike most of the rest of the group. Dunno whether that makes him more impressive or less, to be honest.

Hrm, I don't want to start a feud with a Definite Odreng though.

What was he planning to do with the bones? We might be able to get him to relent if we offer our skills making a weapon using it for him, so he doesn't have to pay through the nose for quality iron and a capable smith who can breach the Superior wall. Someone who can whip out a Wondrous quality weapon who's also good enough with runecraft to upgrade it is not easy to get access to. And at the end of the day, a permanent and significant character upgrade without potentially starting a feud would be worth an action.

I'm against this. It's basically paying him for being an asshole. A fair distribution of spoils is not something we should need to spend resources on securing. I don't want a feud with this guy, but we can't be a pushover either...this society does not look kindly on people who just back down when challenged or are overly placating with people trying to take advantage of them.

Actually, they're both part of the Kyrsvikingar.

Any conflict with Skoll will progress over a lengthy period of time. A couple of turns or thereabouts. You won't be fighting him immediately.

I think that if our attacks hit at roughly the same percentage, this would be broadly true, but as a ranged specialist I expect he may have more stuff specialised at stopping ranged attacks hitting him than we do.

That's a really good idea.

Honestly, he tried to sexually harass us earlier, and he's been really unreasonable about this, Halla's read on him is that he's a prick and Abjorn would have killed him had he been here, so I don't really feel like doing this guy favours. He seems like the kind of person who is only going to take attempts to be reasonable as a sign of weakness and press for more concessions.

A feud would be annoying, but honestly if he's so stupid and petty that he's willing to keep holding a grudge even after a court case/duel resolves in our favour (assuming it does), then we're probably doing the whole valley a favour.

I don't actually think he's a ranged specialist? When the other members of our party were introduced, Skoll was said to have three weapons... all of them being melee weapons. Specifically a spear, axe and sax. His bow isn't actually mentioned anywhere, although he was said to have a shield on top of everything.

He has a spear, axe, sax, and also shield.

I got the impression he was an all-rounder, or a melee specialist with some proficiency in bows.

I'd prefer the bones but I agree with the Screw Skoll platform. hopefully we'll get another trial, I enjoyed the last one

When added to our fields it just grew normal food, though, which was a lot less impressive.
It was enough food to feed a person for 2 months which is pretty impressive in universe
Edit: woops missed the vote
