Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Alright, I'm trying to work out a plan, the way I see it we can select 4 options for the Production of Killer Queen and leave the rest of the options for Lucasfilms and the Personal Actions.

Now, I'm planning on going for buying the Kaiju Antagonists of Godzilla from Toho, and perhaps tyr and get some TV Shows for our new channel as well. Perhaps try and get the chance to Produce the War Games film as well.

Guys, I suggest buying the rights for all the PK Dick stories before he passes away (he died this year OTL)

Jesus, and I'm the guy who usually harps on about this! Thanks man, can't believe I forgot.
No problem...

Another suggestion is to get a PR department for Lucasfilm going (all those failures in networking really hurt), and since Magoose confirmed that $2-3 million would get us a decent department, I would put $30 million and maki it fucking awesome...

PR Department? Woudl that really help us in networking? I mean, not that I would say no to getting better rolls, but what ecastly would such a department do aside from that?

Besides, I kinda like how our PR is done through our movies and actions rather than through a department.

I would like to point out that the time to buy up the land from Walter Knott as previously discussed is right now, since he died in December of this year.

Dude, this is a quest that kind of thing is a gameplay feature that it doesn´t have to be 100% realistic, and since the legal department gives us a bonus not only to legal actions, but also to acquiring stuff it seems logical that a PR department will help us with networking (dealing with people and all that)

Besides that, it will help us mitigate the mallus that Bruce has when dealing with the press, which is also a good thing

And let´s be honest seeing how big Lucasfilms has become, at his point investing $20-40 million is almost spare change.

Thanks for reminding it...

IIRC there were talks about buying a couple of fast food chains that disappeared in the 80s...

Alright, I think I can include the PR Department, and we would still have three spots for Networking. One of those I'm planning to use for the buying in Toho, another for the Philip K. Dick's books. That leaves us one space to use, and I was planning on using it to get the War Games movie to Produce.

So, unless someone else has any better idea to use that last space, that would be what I use it for.

I would rather use one of the "investment" option to buy the PK Dick rights rather than networking... Networking seems to be jinxed...

The whole turn is an autopass, so it's not an issue, but I do agree that it would be better to just buy the rights outright. Not much point networking with a dude who's about to be dead.
The Networking option is the one to buy the rights. Investment is for adding and expanding to the company through departments, but Networking gets us the franchises, IPs, etc for us to work with.

I don't think that's strictly true, since I'm pretty sure I remember us buying rights through the Investments option before, but I suppose it doesn't much matter so long as you specify the intent to purchase the adaptation rights to his works within the Write-In.

That's the plan. Now, I just need to find out how much to pay him. I want to gve him a square deal, but I'm not sure how much that is.

How much did we offer Heinlein again?

10 million but universal offered him 30 because we rolled a 1. But since this is an auto success turn that's thankfully not an issue.
-[X]Investments: You want to invest your hard-earned cash into something that you feel will be a good return on investment. And as well as diversify your assets DC: 0 (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to invest in)
--[X] Purchase film rights for Robert Heinlein bibliography. If the bibliography is largely unavailable, focus on Starship Troopers and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. $10 Million. Rolled:D100 => 1

When you tried to buy the books, you were told, by a very angry Heinlein that you could not pay him the 30 million that Universal paid for his entire collection of works written currently.

Then he recognized your voice and went on a tirade about… well, he said a lot of things about you, mostly that you were some party boot-liking liberal who just did every thing he wanted for publicity and clout, not because you actually believed in it.

Then he said something about Carrie deciding to look like an Amazonian from fiction, with muscles that made her unladylike and ugly, with the muscles clashing with her figure, and how it would make her infertile, and that she would suffer for it.

Now you would have bubbled with rage to destroy this man's life and career, but you decided to not waste your energy on it…for now.

Reward: Heinlein sold his works to Universal for an insane 30 million dollars, plus he would give the film rights to future works… and took out his political frustrations on you when you tried, too late, to purchase his works.

He also called Carrie ugly, and despite wanting to kill the man when he said that, you decided to safely and smartly, ignore him.

[X] Plan Return of the Queen
-[X]On multiple cameras: You can try to do what you did in star wars and make things really fluid.
-[X]Yes
-[X]And The Star is coming on: Debbie has had a long hiatus and you think it might be best to ease her in… and she told you to go to hell, and let her work. DC: 40
-[X]John's Got Some Bullshit: You want to know what happened to have Carrie have him by the balls like this. Have you ever seen him like this? No you have not DC: 30
-[X]Vincents Idea: So Vincent has never been the best idea guy, but he wanted to make things a little more… realistic for Hollywood and said that he had a story he wanted to use. DC: 20
-[X]Frank: So Sinatra was rather… well he was not happy to be here, but hey, maybe you can make him feel better. DC: 40
-[X]Evelyn Greer and the Bad Luck: She thinks she's bad luck and honestly, you don't like that kind of energy on set. You had enough with Conan. DC: 40
-[X]The City of Angles: So you want to just drive around with a Camera on your car for the mood of driving for transitions. Hopefully nothing goes wrong. DC: 30
-[X]Midnight Dinner: Well you have finally going to see your first step into the Horror Genre. If only Steve's film didn't destroy the chances at the box office. DC: 20
-[X]Dark Forest: Honestly, you forgot that this film was produced, and given that you were in all sorts of work, that might make it really nice. DC: 30
-[X]The Aftermath: Mike needs you to fly to Japan. He wants to rub it into the face of his enemies personally. DC: 30
-[X]And George Prepares for… Something: So George, what are you planning on doing this time… why are the Steves Here? There were the three big Steves. Wozniacki, Jobs, and Spielberg. DC: 40
-[X]Investing in the Future: You want to Spend some of that money you made into the company and make the whole thing better DC: ??? (Linetail what you want to invest in, and how much money you want to invest in it
--[X] Contact Philip K. Dick and offer $80 Million for the adaptational rights of all of his works.
-[X]Best Friends: So Mary has lots of friends, and she wants them to come over. You need to prepare for that. Carrie, get the cookies.
-[X]The Return of the Queen: Freddie and the Gang are back in town, having a problem. They got screwed over, again, by their record company. And they want to vent DC: 45
-[X]A Charitable Heart: You want to invest your newfound wealth. Maybe even save some lives while you are at it. (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to donate in)
--[X] Medical Research. $400 Million. There's some sort of strange virus spreading around that is causing the failure of people's immune's systems. Many don't give a damn since most of the victims are gay people, but they deserve just as much respect and care as anyone else, nevermind that there's straight people and even kids getting infected. Perhaps you're worrying over nothing, but you have a gut feeling that action must be taken now before too many people suffer, so why not do something useful with your fortune and help the doctors who can make a difference now before it's too late?

So if anyone else is committed to a particular camera style I don't mind since this is an autopass turn but I figured multiple cameras and replicate our work from Empire Strikes Back. Also we got the autopass, so why not do everything this month so we'll be free to start work on Return of the Jedi.

I don't see any reason not to do all of the Killer Queen actions. Help make the best movie we can for Debbie and make another O'Brian banger. Still surprised that Bruce isn't starring, but a film focused on Debbie and Carrie that they never really got to do OTL is sweet.

Do the Lucasfilms actions of film premieres, dealing with Japan and the big tech stuff. Also buy the rights to PK Dick's work so we can have a lot of great stories to make films out of.

For personal stuff, be a good host and make sure Mary has a great time. I think that will also take up the family action nicely. Also play host to Queen again.

Speaking of, and this is the big action that has made me really want to save up our money for a huge life altering boost, being a visionary and boosting AIDS research to help the millions of poor people who caught and or died with AIDS. The 80s really screwed the pooch for how they treeated the virus and by donating such a massive sum of money, literally more than the federal government will spend combined from 1981-1985, we can at least make more people properly aware, erase the awful stigmas, and develop treatments earlier. Not to mention, this is pretty huge in how it helps some people who are close to the O'Brian family like Magic Johnson and Freddy Mercury, and for the latter the fact that this lines up with a Queen action is good timing, especially since he's likely to contract it next year. Perhaps a bit too prophetic, but curbing the shit out of AIDS is always a good thing and it's another great thing to add to Bruce's legacy.

Well, I'm going to support this plan, the chance to stop AIDS from spreading this time around is too great to ignore.

Great idea Kaiser Chris!

[X] Plan Return of the Queen

Despite it alll, I still hold on to hope that we can buy the rights for at least the Mothra Franchise from Toho. That and King Ghidorah would have us set with Gamera for the future.

hey guys I think it's time to try buying star trooper now
We'd have to buy it from Universal since we rolled a one when trying to buy it.

I honestly don't think it would be IC for Bruce to ever buy the rights to Starship Troopers, at least while Heinlein is alive. Remember, that when Bruce tried to engage in honest business, he got told by Heinlein that he's a stupid Liberal and Carrie is ugly and infertile, the latter of which really pissed off Bruce. Even as much of a saint as Bruce is, I think insulting Carrie would make him delve back into old ways and do all kinds of petty shit so the targeted person can rue ever speaking ill of Carrie, and leaving Starship Troopers in Universal's incompetent hands where already they've been unable to make a movie for the past five years is just deserts.

However worry not for I have an alternate badass military Sci-Fi series that starts with Star planned for the future, Starfist:

For those who don't know, very fun and pulpy Sci-Fi novels about Marines in the 25th century who defend the Confederation of Human worlds from all myriad of human threats, and later on aliens. I think this has awesome potential as a franchise if ever adapted and I'm sure the authors would absolutely love to work with Bruce since as Marine vets, they'd probably be members of the O'Reilly Foundation or major fans.

But yeah, even if nothing truly awful came from the Starship Troopers action and I don't even think Carrie knows what went down, I don't see it being IC for Bruce to buy. Would be hilarious though if one of his kids becomes a diehard fan of the franchise.
