Holy Shit I think George Lucas may have just made himself the most important person in film history. It's already one thing to have created the greatest movie ever and be the director of the first billion dollar film. But George also revolutionized VFX and SFX which before were dying practices, and now he's literally pushed the technological limits of film ahead by decades and discovered new techniques to advance telecommunications and computers. We are probably more advanced than most computer companies at the moment and we are singlehandedly the most advanced film company in the world. Motherfucking Empire Strikes Back is gonna be filmed and released in HD. Even the most mundane slice of life style Lucasfilms movies will be the most gorgeous films to look at. We are the Titans of Hollywood and it's all thanks to the brilliant mind of George Lucas, a man held in the same league as Edison, Bell and Ford.
Thinking on future historiography, I think no matter what kinds of movies Bruce makes, George is always going to be looked at as the most important person in Lucasfilms whose genius propelled it to the height of cinema. However, such a genius would not have been made were it not for an Irish Goose liking a quirky student film and funding an Indie that no one had faith in, and then solely funding a million dollar movie about cruising culture. We're still going to be a legend in culture and entertainment, but people will regard our greatest accomplishment as having met and befriended George Lucas. Hell, our cameo in Forrest Gump might just be Forrest pushing Bruce to invest in THX, if not that then creating Lucasfilms.
Also you want to know something fascinating? George could have continued along this level of innovation such as Pixar, but he sold most of his assets in 1983 to get liquid funds for the divorce so he could pay Marcia a cash settlement and avoid her taking Lucasfilms or Skywalker Ranch. Here with George and Marcia having a loving and healthy relationship and about to have a kid along the way, all of that is staying within the company. All our competition can make great movies, but we will be known as the people who invented all the tools they used and make the impossible possible for film.
Only thing that would have made the update cooler was if Todd was somehow involved, but with all that has been done I can easily see him looking for employment with Lucasfilms after college, which he probably was already leaning towards to work with his sister and brother-in-law. Todd's already shown promising genius, imagine the stuff he can make with George.
Also I guess I'm convinced now, after paternity leave is over we need to bring Gavin and the Steves down to Lucasfilms and negotiate a partnership.
You also have to wonder how this effects Mike's loyalty to Lucasfilms. Not only is Mike working with the best creative minds in the industry, he's working with a man who pushed film technology decades forwards and he's not stopping. Mike just want to work to Lucasfilms til retirement because even if he's not the head honcho CEO like Disney, as President of Lucasfilms he'll do far more in terms of high quality films and technological advancements than Universal or Disney possibly could.
Now that this has been posted I'm super hyped for Gosling Fluff.
So how rich is George now from this
With this and Star Wars residuals and toys, George could easily become a billionaire by 1980, and by modern day be one of the richest men in the world with smart investments and continual innovation. This is the kind of shit that makes empires.
YESSSSS!!!!! HOBBIT MOVIE HERE WE COME!!!!!
AND DUNE!!! OH MY GOD IT'S GOING TO BE AMAZING!!!!
Wait,
@Magoose, with this we can do the Treasure Planet movie? Or at least that Cog Scene from Basil in Baker Street?
We must be careful though, we know the dangers of using too much CGI. It must be used sparingly, and there must be no skimping in costs when sets or Practical effects might give a more realistic experience (Case in Point: The Old Indiana Jones movies Vs the new ones).
Forget about CGI, think of the amazing leaps that our advanced computers could do for 2d animation. We could soon make digital 2d and make a full transition from cel animation. We could make Ghost in the Shell in the 80s, hell we could make Spiderverse animation by 2000.
Also good news for you and Duke William, I can imagine that this is going to change Marvels tune about being bought by Lucasfilms, and even if they still want to be independent they might want to make shows and movies through us instead of going in-house. Stan can rightfully point out that going it alone Marvel can make some decent stuff, but if they make their cartoons and live action stuff through Lucasfilms they will have the best possible stories be made and will technically be lightyears ahead of anything DC and Columbia make.
