Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Hmm..can we make an El Macho Movie? (Yes the Despicable Me 2 Character :D)
You know, there is a character that is similar to him:

This is "El Santo", a mexican "luchador enmascarado" (masked wrestler), actor and folk hero. In his long career he was protrayed as a man fighting for the common man against injustice. Comic books and movies have him fighting monsters, aliens, criminals, etc. And they have movies from the 50s all the way until the 80s.

I don't know if they were distributed in the U.S., but they could be a good B movie (or C movie at least) entertainment.

Man quite an update! Shame about the MASH rolls but not gonna lie, I was kind of hoping they'd be the dump ones because I'm not too invested with MASH and really wanted things going great within our personal lives and for Lucasfilms to continue its strong start. Looks like everything was balanaced with tv meh and movie wonder. Shame about the contract, I was assuming that with Wayne and McLean gone and everyone loving us as a fan favorite we'd get some decent negotiation power, especially as OTL Radar got offered a 4 Mil contract during this time, but I guess it's not meant to be.

-[X]The Roll of a Lifetime: John looked at you and felt shame as he asked. "I need your help Bruce. Can you help me?" DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 50 (autopass)

John looked at you as he walked through the door. "Listen, I don't have time to ask, but… Fuck it!" He then grabbed your shoulders. "I need your help."

"With what?" You asked.

That earned a facepalm from John. "Listen, I am about to audition for a role, a role that you are intimately familiar with."

"Some Nights?" You replied.

"Yeah… Wait how did you know?"

You looked at a small message from Carrie, that said. "Send to John."

"Oh." He whispered as he looked at the note, and read it. Then he looked at you. "Really?"

"Carrie didn't like the guys they brought on and said they were not taking her seriously. Said she was going to drop and stop the production together if she didn't get the right man for the job. She felt uncomfortable around all of them, because they were too abrasive, or thought she was lying about the script, and the story thought it was going "

"That's crap!" John said. "We all saw the script! Robin loved it."

"I know." Then you looked at the phone. "Call her, tell her that Bruce gave you the message, and get your ass down to the studio." You then smiled. "Believe me, she'll appreciate it."

John then walked over to the phone and made the call.

Reward: John now has the part.

Carrie really appreciates it, as she feels like most of who the studios brought in were far to… mean. Scary… And not the kind of people she could have seen herself in.

That's a really great ending and a nice continuation of Saturday Morning Coming Down, I'm happy I could play my part. I could easily see where even with Debbie's influence and everyone trying to get Carrie's favor that they still mess it up and try to pair her with weirdos or hardasses and you can't really make a personal film under conditions like that. Fortunately, John is literally one of the most perfect co-stars as the dude is not only super talented, but busts his ass off to get a great job and is pretty great with the cast and crew. Funnily, the two had tons of opportunities to co-star with each other as every film they came out in, the other was considered for the lead but nothing ever came, glad we were able to bring about the co-op here.

-[X]The Wonderful Life of Carrie Fisher: So Carrie has come to you with some fun stories on set, as well, as her own insecurities. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 88+30=118

You were smiling when Carrie walked into your apartment and locked the door and jumped onto your lap. "Hey, Bruce." There was a smile on her face as she kissed you, and you both savored the taste of her lips and gagged a little when you couched, tasing the makeup.

"Ack, you still have makeup on?" You replied with a cough. "How much did they put on?"

"Not a lot" She replied, but you knew she was doing something that was not the best thing. "Sorry. Just had some problems with that last scene, John was playing a prank."

Oh. "What do you mean?" You asked.

Carrie relaxed. "Oh, there is just a prank war going on on set. Apparently, John got one of the camera guys to try and stick extra makeup on my face after shooting wrapped for the day." She then smiled. "He must be paying me back for the trailer being filled with extra cans." She laughed at the thought and she then sighed.

"Well, I hope the crew was happy with it?" You asked.

"What are you talking about, they are encouraging it because it's the only thing keeping them sane because of all the suits want is to overwork us. John and I can't get in trouble, so they want us to have fun to get back at the suits... Did you know that most of the set people expected me to be mean? They actually thought that I was going to act like some primadonna, who just… expects them to know what they were doing, and get it right, or get mad."

That earned a surprised look from her. "Really? I would have thought they would have known you better?"

"I know, it was weird. Did you know the director was just surprised I remembered half the crew's names? And I brought them all dinner after the week was over after we got through some of the rougher musical numbers?" There was a laugh.

"Really? Why would people think you were going to be a brat?" You asked.

"I don't know. Mom being who she is may have had them worried. Dad is out of the picture and rumors are beginning to spread. They thankfully haven't brought up any of dads work, though one of them really did want to ask how our relationship was going?"

"Our relationship?" You asked.

"Yeah, said he needed to settle a bet." She replied as she snuggled into you. "I didn't tell him a thing though."

"Oh, what sort of questions were asked for a bet?" You asked, with an eyebrow raised, as her head brushed your chin as she looked up. "A curious one I hope?"

"Why don't we find out." She said. "I am a princess that needs to be pampered."

But before you could do anything else, her finger went on your lips. "Everything stays on today, it's not a safe day. So pamper me with some dinner."

You then nodded. "Your wish is my command. My princess."

Reward: It seems that, despite a small prank war, and some nosey crew members, production is going rather swimmingly on Some Nights.

Carrie has really made herself very happy with the members of the crew by just being nice. And it has really won her some friends in the crew and the extras.

You made her a nice dinner though, to celebrate.

AWWW!!! Carrie W is always a great W and it's good to see her be happy and having a great career outside of the relationship. The 70s were the best and worst times for Carrie Fisher so it's good to see that things both career and personal wise are turning around and if she comes out with a great starring role before Star Wars, that will do wonders in helping to get her out of character lock and really expand her potential and career horizons. Long Live the Princess!

-[X] Debbie Details: Carrie is working on her film, so why did Debbie call you to her home? DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 86

Debbie was waiting in front of her mansion door, on the porch with a pitcher of water, and some chairs. "Alright, I'm here Debbie. So what's going on?" You asked.

There was a silent gaze before she took a breath. "Bruce, please sit."

You sat. "Water?" She asked.

"I'm good for now." You replied. "So what is the meaning of this little meeting behind Carrie's Back?"

"I wanted to talk to you. About certain rumors going around." She replied.

"Alright." You replied. "What are they?"

"First, my reasons for pushing Carrie to produce her movie and script within Hollywood." She started. "First, and this is purely for a reason that I had to do it. I trusted a few people that could keep her safe."

"Safe?" You asked, feeling anger bubble in your heart. "Why would you-"

"There are quite a few things that could have happened, had I not gotten involved, or you were involved, could have done some unspeakable damage to Carrie's career. They would have tried to lock her down into a long contract that would have made her hate this town more than she already had. I trust few people Bruce, for a long time… but the people I have producing and helping Carrie are people I trust to look out for her best interests." She replied. "It was leverage."

"Leverage?" You spat. "For what?"

"To make sure Carrie has a career and is not tied down to a single studio, I signed a contract for six pictures for the simple request she gets funding and her movie is made." She replied. "I may not be the Queen like in the old days, but my name still carries some weight in this town, and I want to make sure she won't get signed for a contract that could reduce her from a talent to a burnt-out husk. I don't want her in that kind of factory lifestyle I know that this town can create. Especially if she gets"

"So you what, put yourself in a harsh and demanding contract for your daughter?" You asked.

"Yes." She smiled as she drank some water. "My little power play and insurance policy. Even If they screw me over, Carrie keeps being Carrie, and she gets a fresh start, with a starring role, that, if my estimates are correct in how and my agent negotiated her contract… could allow Carrie to never work again if it's as successful as I believe my daughter's talent can warrant."

"You have that much faith in Carrie?" You asked. "You think she can win all the Oscars?"

"Bruce my boy, I expect her to win as many Oscars as she can get nominated for." She smiled and laughed.

Then the question came. "Why not come to me and George to make it?"

There was a huff. "Because the rumors are, Universal was spurned by your president Mike Eisner, when they tried to buy him off you, and send your company into the dumps."

There was a smile, and you realized that Mike had a long business talk with Universal to distribute Pictures. The same one he said went poorly, and he returned with far more vigor than you had expected. "And?"

"Well, you might find yourselves in War. But something tells me that Mike planned for that. He planned for quite a bit." She replied.

"And Bruce." She paused as she saw Carrie's car come driving towards the front, the driver there to drop her off home after a longday on set.

Then Debbie became as cold as the Winter Queen of Fairytales. "I love my daughter, and I know she loves you too. But if you ever hurt her. I will do everything in my power to destroy you. And everything you and your friends have built."

"If I ever hurt her Debbie, I think I would destroy myself."You replied.

Reward:

You have learned that Universal is trying to sabotage the distribution deals, but has failed. Though this could be the first sign in a long battle against the other major studios as you try to gain legitimacy in Hollywood.

Debbie made Carrie work in Hollywood, in a political play that would keep Carrie from signing any long-term deals with any major studio, in essence, keeping her free to work on any project after this film, sacrificing her own happiness and possibly her career for it. A sacrifice only a mother who loved her daughter with all her heart could make.

She has also told you in no uncertain terms, that… well…

If you hurt Carrie in any way… she would find a way to destroy your career and all your friends.

Slay Queen! This was a great choice in helping to expand the narrative in a lot of other areas such as Eisner and Carrie stuff, and I'm really happy that we were able to get things clear with Debbie cause the worst could have happened with Bruce forming a grudge over not being able to make the movie with Carrie. Great to see that there will be absolutely no conflicts to Carrie working on Star Wars and it all came about thanks to Debbie being a great mom and taking on the burden so her kids could be free and happy. Really proud to see Debbie being so strong and active here considering she kind of lost touch with Carrie throughout the decade and could do little to help or protect her. Looks like Carrie's got a tough Mama Bear in her corner and Debbie learned some of Bruce's Irish vindictiveness.

-[X]The Beginning of A Long Pre-Production: So George has gathered you and Mike with his idea, and the script. He called it Star Wars, and he is in need of a lot of things. DC: 20 (Will begin a small mini-turn about the beginning of the Production of Star War Rolled:D100 => 89

You and George, Garry, and Mike looked at the script. The Script is called Star Wars.

"George, what the hell is this," Mike stated. "Who are we even making this movie for?"

Mike Eisner looked at you with a great deal. "300 Theaters."

"Excuse me?"

"I was only able to get 300 theaters in the United States to show this film. right now at least." He stated.

"But..." you started.

"I've talked to many theater managers and theater companies. There was something that didn't fit right because I needed to find out why it wasn't shown in every theater in America." He quickly moved his finger to a letter. "I have reason to believe that there are forces at work that are trying to prevent us from getting this movie, into theaters, no one releases so many movies in February to just compete against an old foreign film... and prevent us from seeing any sort of profit."

He then looked at you, as you asked. "What can I do?"

"I need time, and I need resources to start getting things ready." He smiled. "I don't want Georges... Star Wars to be brought low by some... misconception."

"You'll get it."

Reward:

Gain 4 million in profits.

It seems to be Hollywood fuckery trying to prevent you from getting the movie into a lot of theaters...

Well...it wasn't illegal to release or re-release films on a slow February... but that is also strange. Very strange. It was almost like it was a deliberate act to get theaters to drop the film after only a few weeks if only to make room for more profitable films.

in your next release, Hollywood fuckery gains a significant... debuff.

AN: Enjoy.

Looks like I was right in releasing a 50's Irish film as testing grounds to iron out the kinks of distribution, and it worked wonders here by acting as a lightning rod for Universal hate so we can power up the big guns of our foreign acquisitions. Also Eisner is coming in clutch and proving to be one of our best choices so far. I guess next time we choose Managing Eisner, we should let him do his thing. Just imagine what the hell Disney is going to be like if he takes up leadership.

$10 Mil for a non-Hollywood Irish production is also pretty damn good, in fact I think it might be their best performing movie that has zero Hollywood stars or managment, and this is for a drama movie that's over a decade old. We've probably made a lot of friends in the Irish film industry and anytime an Irish movie maker wants to get global distribution, they'll go to Lucasfilms first.

It seems our plans to release a movie as a test run were wise. If we had gone straight to Star Wars…

We should probably distribute another film to work out some more kinks and find some more counters, and probably try some fuckery with 'delaying' Star Wars production so it seems we won't meet our release date, so the other studios relax, then release it on time and surprise them.
Hmm, any other movies we can distribute in the US markets?

Next movie we should do is The Way of the Dragon - Wikipedia . Not only is it Bruce Lee's last film and one of our best ways to honor his memory besides Kung Fu Kid, but it's also Chuck Norris' debut film so this is very historical moment for Hollywood. Way of Made $130 Mil in global distribution OTL so at bare minimum we'll probably make eight figures for a US release and with the foreign acquisition bonus and the fuckery debuff, this is the greatest pick for a US release.

Shit, whether we win or lose our fight against Hollywood, we're going to be forever carved into its history and be one of the most interesting people to come out of Hollywood. TONIGHT, WE GO TO WAR!!

If we're not in the top of the level of interesting people in the world by the end of the quest... I have no idea what else to say to that.

I'd honestly still like to try and get Harrison some kind of role, just so that he maintains interest in being an actor and knows that he's still part of the "Lucasfilm Family," so to speak. Cause the time between Star Wars with no Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones is a big one.

You know for the pre production turn I'm stuck on either having it be multiple turns where we flesh out a single aspect of the film, like a score, concept art and such…

Or… just… do one thing at a time.

Decisions Decisions

You know for the pre production turn I'm stuck on either having it be multiple turns where we flesh out a single aspect of the film, like a score, concept art and such…

Sound Score Ideas:

The Beatles for the Catina Scene
Elvis Presley for Cloud City

We make a concept art of Jar Jar as a placeholder picture for Green Screen to make sure it is working.

Also uh…

I just rolled for something insane:

Some Nights has the possibility to gross half a billion dollars.

Hollywood is playing Carrie up as Debbie's successor in the marketing. And it's doing stupid waves through Hollywood .

Meaning it's going to get plastered on tvs and the like…

Sooo

Yeah
