Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

This Show is Pain: Production Turn 1 (January-February 1972)
Season 1 Quality Rolls:

Script Quality:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 61

Do describe the first batch of episodes, you could only describe it as mediocre... with glimpses of Brilliance. That meant that for every scene that was bad, there was at least one scene that had glimmers of hope for this wonderfully funny show.

And the Writers did not have the freedom that you thought they would have.

Episodes 6-13: D100 => 2

You didn't have a script for these episodes. At least not completed scripts.

You had ideas where you had to improvise the entire episode. Hell Episode 13 only had a single sentence of an idea. "The Crew Getting told that supplies were delayed, and have to make do with what they have."

Turns out, half the writers that worked on the show were completely told to work on other projects, as the network needed to crank out a few more episodes later in the year.

And dear god, it put the remaining producers on suicide watch, as they battled the suits for every scrap they could get their hands on as they were left out to dry.

Episodes 14-24: D100 => 79

On the bright side, the writers that were remaining on the project finally saw the absurdity that could bleed into the entire script process.

And they must have been on something fierce. insanely good pacing, tight dialogue, and even compelling drama in between the laughs and tears.

They outdid themselves.

Alan Ada SP:
Episode 1-5: D100 + 10 => 103

And Alan showed himself as the greatest actor you worked with, as he effortlessly made these mediocre scripts that he had, and knocked them out of the park.

He was completely in control of every scene that he had, and there was plenty and they had to do so many takes because everyone couldn't stop laughing.

Episodes 6-13: D100 + 10 => 71
Episodes 14-24: D100 + 10 => 61

However, he seemed to lose his touch, or rather the scripts involving his character were not as strong (Or nonexistent in the middle episodes), as many of the scenes he did in the later episodes were very... well not as funny.

He was still a knock-out laugh, but not to the point where entire takes were ruined by laughter.

Even on the disastrous middle episodes where the entire show had no screenwriters to speak of, his natural charisma of Alan carried over, and his jokes, while on the top and completely improvised were sure enough to keep the entire thing moving.

Loretta Jane Swit SP:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 92

To say that a poor script could stop Loretta was like saying that she needed anything. She took what little she had, and it blossomed into hilarious zingers, powerful characters and of course, laughter. She made Alan seem like a second fiddle in some of those scenes they were in, and-

Well, the tension of romance, or at very least mutual attraction was there.

Episodes 6-13: D100 => 9
But for as good an actor that she was, nothing could help he with such a terrible chaos of the scripting fiasco of the middle episodes.

Her lines fell flat, and she seemed confused and befuddled, unable to really keep up with the improvisation finznza as everyone else did.

She was just there, being pretty, and she hated the stress and struggle that was occurring.

Episodes 14-24: D100 => 74

And then she came back with a rousing second half.

The scripts were very good, and she had plenty of time to gain some much-needed confidence back when she looked at the whole body of work, and it showed.

Even then, she was unsatisfied with the whole entire process and knew she was going to raise hell at the people that just abandoned the show.

Wayne Rogers SP:
Episode 1-5: D100 - 10 => 69
Wayne showed that he was fantastic in the roll, a more comedic, though gruffer character than Hawkeye.

And frankly, the entire crew was very impressed with his medical speech after the first episode.

Inspired, although a little gruesome of the details he went into when stitching up a boy that would clearly not make it. He was angry, upset, and raging at the futility of the situation that he was in.

Episodes 6-13: D100 - 10 => 27
A shame such a strong performance came with mediocrity.

He was just so lifeless, and the script and improvisation didn't help at all.

And of course, there was the elephant in the room. You.

He seemed to not wish to be with you any longer than he had to.

Episodes 14-24: D100 - 10 => 88
But that was in the past, as everyone had a script they could work with, he showed just how well he could carry a show.

in fact, he outshone Alan and did so well. Especially in his scenes with you, where he wanted to outdo you at every turn.

William Christopher SP:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 67
William had to deal with being more into the background in those first episodes, and his actions in them were rather minor, all things considering it was not what was needed.

Episodes 6-13: D100 => 97
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 96
Then in the disaster script episodes (as it was now being called by the crew), he showed just how funny he could be. He was just constantly coming up with everything that was funny for them, and his character on the show just exploded with laughs and funny lines.

And he really did act like a good shepherd to his flock. There were a few on set, even you, who asked if he had been a brother of the cloth, with his many introspection and lines from the book.

He nodded and said no.

He just realized that that was what people needed. Hope and meaning in the world, so he would do his best to show it.

McLean Stevenson SP:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 87

Stevenson was very strong at the season's beginning, capturing a career officer and a man who had gone to war before who was very personally tired of getting several civilian doctors who wanted nothing more than to screw around and to show him little respect.

It was hilarious letting the man show his anger at the crew. Or rather the suits who were leaving the show out to die.

Episodes 6-13: D100 => 51
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 1
But it seems that even he had his limits.

He quit before the 15th episode.

He said that this set was cursed.

Larry Linville SP:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 82
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 82
Larry seemed to be the only sane man, professional, and happy that everything was going well.

Even the scriptless episodes showed he was a quick-thinking, happy, and funny man, despite the chaos.

Episodes 14-24: D100 => 25

But even he struggled greatly with the final episodes, with Mclean leaving and many of the scenes being rewritten and many of the long sleepless nights on set trying to get scenes just right, without any rehearsal.

In fact on the last day of the shoot, he fell asleep on set due to the arduous seven-day shooting schedule that you embarked on just so you could all avoid getting fired for going over budget, and someone had to take him home.

Bruce "The Goose: O'Brien:
Episode 1-5: D100 - 5 => 93
Controlled chaos and fun. That was what you thought of when you took this part. You were chaotic, quick with wit, words, and fists on every turn, keeping order.

Then came the fun part. You came up with increasingly ingenious pranks that no one could think of, and also come up with, as well as made on an army base in Korea.

There was so much that you did, that it was quickly becoming apparent that everyone thought you were an actual soldier.

Or at least had training.

Which you had. the fact more people didn't pay attention to your off-set antics was both sad and encouraging.

Sad because everyone seemed to ignore you

encouraging because no one cared. and you could surprise them.

Episodes 6-13: D100 - 5 => 92
And once the scripts became nothing but a memory, you showed just how talented you are.

You allowed yourself to have not only key moments of comedy but also of drama. The ammo dump explosion that occurred (an accident on set when a fire went off because one of the set crew was smoking and a stray ember set it alight.) was a stroke of genius, and while you had seen confidence and good...

Well, things like that showed how young and inexperienced you were.

Episodes 14-24: D100 - 5 => 64
But you were just average because everyone else needed development.

====

Alan/Loretta Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 17
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 54
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 59

They had chemistry. It wasn't much, they acted more like distant coworkers and the tension was there... but-

That was about it.

Alan/Wayne Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 40
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 47
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 41

They showed themselves well, but there is a truly antagonistic undertone that bled over from the chaos of the set. Anger and stress and frustration and so much more unbearable even when the set became less chaotic.

And while it did not get any worse than a mean glare, things were going to be better.

Alan/Christopher Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 67
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 74
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 59

But Alan and Chris had a riot, acting as good men and good friends.

It was amazing.

Alan/Steavenson Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 91
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 88
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 14

The chemistry between the subordinate and officer who was not happy was something incredible.

The enmity in the scripts was insanely funny and well done.

Then Steavenson left and everything went to hell.

Alan/Linville Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 63
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 5
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 71
A wonderful Wonderful friendship that could blossom if there was

After several moments of sheer boredom and stupidity.

Unfortunately, with chaos on set, it was insane.

Alan/Bruce Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 + 10 => 88
Episodes 6-13: D100 + 10 => 44
Episodes 14-24: D100 + 10 => 63
There is only one thing that you can say about the screen, sharing it with Alan.

He treats you as a young man lost, and in need of direction, and that series, for you, in life... it was perfect.

Bruce/Wayne Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 - 10 => 26
Episodes 6-13: D100 - 10 => 50
Episodes 14-24: D100 - 10 => 51

He was your most hated enemy off the camera.

Yet a close ally in front of it. In fact, as he saw your work, the disruption was quietly... and brilliantly used to make everything better, and his moments of serenity were earnest and helpful. At least in ways that were not absolutely disruptive like others.

Showbiz everyone.

Bruce/Linville Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 49
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 84
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 11

It was quite a crazy thing, with an officer and his private clerk.

But there were a lot of funny things that went through, especially when the no-script episodes were being made. He had no longer saw you as a kid on set and started treating you better, both off and on camera. It was quiet.

Yet after that, energy was gone, and even if you wanted to share it, the stress took a lot out of everyone. He was annoyed, angry, and frustrated at every possible step in those final episodes, wishing that it is over, so that he can rest for a few weeks. And not see your face.

Bruce/Christopher Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 60
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 64
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 82

If Chris were a priest, you would have never missed mass again.

He was a good man and a good friend on set. Once the initial marks were done, he showed quiet confidence, both in you and himself. It was something that was amazing to see.

Loretta/Wayne Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 76
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 40
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 58
You honestly didn't know how to say a good thing, but that was a very good thing indeed.

It was like someone had a genie and wished for funny lines between them.

Loretta/Christopher Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 18
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 83
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 31

Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Loretta, who was having trouble, and despite the horror of the second batch of episodes, she had a good time.

Loretta/Stevenson Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 88
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 62
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 95

Before he left, the strongest relations on the set were between Stevenson and Loretta, it was a nice bit of camaraderie in the time that showed between the characters.

It was a shame he quit because, by god, it was something insane. It would have been something special.

Loretta/Linville Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 69
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 66
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 91

The same could be said between Linville to a lesser extent. As many of the times that it showed that there was a good working relationship,

it just wasn't that great.
Christopher/Stevenson Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 92
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 68
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 97
Chirs and Stevenson had an amazing working relationship... before he quit.

It was amazing to watch them work together. It was like watching two friends that had been working together for years, perfectly going off each other, and then, it was just... gone, in an instant.

Christopher/Linville Chemistry:
Episode 1-5: D100 => 33
Episodes 6-13: D100 => 35
Episodes 14-24: D100 => 5

Do you think Linville is the reason Christopher might quit the show? Maybe. However, his attitude was not helping the matter.

But there was nothing but hostility between the two. And near the very end, they almost came to blows.

You actually had to break up a fight between the two right before Christopher Quit and everyone started

====================

Production Design: D100 => 73

The Set that was set up for the MASH hospital was out in the fields of California, and it was a wonderful thing because it was like a dilapidated forward hospital for a frontline unit.

Muddy, dirty, and put together with ducktape and wire. Some of the craters and holes that were filled and broken down by the movement of trucks and crew made it even look like it was shelled

It was authentic. It was magical.

It was also painful and you were glad the boots were good because otherwise you would have had blisters for weeks.

The problem was, that it also added to the frustration of everyone else. On hot days under the California sun when there was almost no shade, no one was hydrating properly or were hydrating with whisky and beer on set... it lead to anger and frustration all around.

Makeup: D100 => 71

Hm... you actually looked well.

Neat. Now if only everyone else could. That would be nice.

The fact that makeup involved also being covered in mud and acting as if they were constantly under enemy artillery fire that was dangerously close by?

It was nice. It also made it easy, as you just had to roll around in the mud for a few minutes before filming.

Environment: D100 => 75

The environment, and the entire show itself... was amazing, and it really felt like you were in the mountains of Korea.

Or rather a war zone. it may be California, but by god was it pretty shitty?

Choreography: D100 => 75
You got to show off a bit, and it even found a way into the disaster Script episodes, as you decided to ask the producers if Rader could start learning how to do martial arts. They accepted and managed to make five minutes of you punching a heavy bag

That was nice because otherwise, it would have been boring. Even though you did Jeet Kun Do, instead of the more realistic and historically accurate... Judo.

And then there was the fire... and you carried everyone out of the burning tent, mostly the people who extras acting as patients, who were to bandaged up to move quickly, and they would have been set on fire.

SFX/Soundtrack: D100 => 73
Suicide is Painless.

What a helluva song.

Everything else was good. And they managed to not have a laugh track playing overhead.

The songs that the composers came up with were the perfect blend of old jazz and orchestral brilliance. You wouldn't be surprised it was nominated for an Emmy.

Flaws During Production: D100 => 96

Let's count down the production bullshit that occurred over filming.

CBS gave up on the show after the first three episodes and gave only the bare minimum of resources to allow it to continue to the first season to its completion.

Half the writer's room was forced onto other shows for CBS, forcing only 5 people, including the showrunners who did not have script writing experiences to make decent episodes, regardless of their writing talents, to helm and write episodes that only had the most basic of concepts.

And they expected you all to get the entire show done, in less then two months.

That forced you all to just improvise with only a single day of rehearsal... And you managed to somehow oner three episodes in three days, with only those concepts.

Primarily surgery stories and anti-war messages that somehow, naturally blended into the stories themselves.

Mclean Stevenson broke the contract, and quit at the 15th episode, after trying to get some script changes and to prevent another fiasco of having no scripts. Even with the new scripts, he was so stressed out from the fiasco...

He left to set, and checked himself into a mental health hospital, for exhaustion, stress, and other ailments.

Then there was the fire that nearly killed everyone, and you had to rescue them. Someone was smoking, and in the dry conditions and medical alcohol, was set ablaze, and was spilled onto the ground, setting the whole tent ablaze.

You heroically carried all 10 extras out of the burning tent.

And the crew actually filmed it. The Crazy bastards.

After that incident... and a safety and health board inspection at the site to make sure it was safe and a no smoking policy on set for obvious reasons.

The Studio gave an ultimatum,

Turns out they had no faith in the program after so many disasters and incidents, even though it was all their fault, to begin with.

People nearly died, and they blamed the crew, instead of themselves for that shit.

They said:

If the viewership numbers weren't off the charts, or the critics didn't praise it for its amazing show... the entire show was canceled.

Well shit, that was news you didn't know you were getting this morning.

================

The Company will only have one month for reshoots, and editing.

A Grand and Most Welcome Finale to This Chicanery: Turn 12 (March 1972)
You looked at the room you were in and wondered just what the hell is going on. you felt exhausted and felt like everything was going to hell.

The MASH shoot was incredible in its insanity. You had got through 24 episodes in two months. Two fucking months! Most shows barely got through an episode or two in that same time, but it seems that CBS in their infinite wisdom, wanted to see everyone die.

You still had nightmares from the fire that nearly killed those people, how all of them screamed for help and the only one who could actually save them was you. It was insanity, thinking just how close you were about to seeing all those people die. And then the camera crew, the stunning fools that they, didn't even try to help. They just watched you, filming you, while everyone else was just trying to get away, to see how they survived.

You were lucky they hadn't tried to film more episodes. Everyone was exhausted. You were pretty sure that if there was more, you would be looking at nothing but hell for weeks at a time.

You went towards the couch, not even bothering to lock your door, and went to sleep.

Production has been suspended for the next two months, due to the incidents, and waiting for the show to air. It will begin preproduction, most likely, in June.

Personal Actions:
Choose 5:

[]Lawyering up (Against CBS, with the Cast): You are going to get a lawyer, and then you are going to start litigation against CBS for their bullshit. Cost 10,000 DC:???

[]Lawyering Up (Against Wayne): You want to make that sonuvabitch suffer for what he did to you. Ruining takes, being an asshole, and all that bullshit! You had enough. You were going to take him to court. Cost 5000 dollars. DC: ???

[]Negotiations of a quieter Sort? CBS is doing damage control. And by that, they are bringing everyone into a room and trying to make them sign Nondisclosure agreements for whatever the hell they want to keep them quiet. And they are giving you an offer you would be stupid to not accept. DC: 0 (As it turns out, their fuck ups might be very costly if they don't get those signatures.)

-[]Lawyering up (Against CBS, with the Cast): You are going to get a lawyer, and then you are going to start litigation against CBS for their bullshit. What they did to you and everyone else was cruel, insane and abusive. Alan and company, save Mclean, who is still recovering at a psych ward, also want to raise hell to get what they want. Cost 10,000 DC:??? Rolled:D100 => 95

To say that you were prepared for a scorched earth approach to the CBS and MASH problem was an understatement. While you could simply point to Mclean and say that they utterly ruined this man due to their incompetence. You had a far far greater idea for that thing.

They were violating several contracts you made. Especially involving insurance. And paychecks.

See when you signed your contract, there was no NDA agreement, as they were reasonably confident to just… well hoping the show would die unfinished. Basically, if it remained unfinished, they didn't need to pay everyone.

See that was a problem, because the show was finished. Despite everything they did to keep from finishing, they now owed you money. And they did not pay you all yet. Even Mclean, who was still recovering, managed to reach the minimum for him to be paid.

And when the lawyers heard and read your copies of the contracts they saw… You swore their eyes turned to dollar signs.

They just told you all to be ready for a very short trial, and possibly, a very huge payout.

Because CBS… screwed up big time. And they will soon reap the whirlwind.

Reward: To be completed next turn. Lawyering up gains +20 to the rolls next turn.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[]Taxes and Tax Loopholes: You are going to dig into lots of Taxloopholes and see how little you can pay in taxes while being completely legal. DC: 30/60/75 Rolled: D100 => 94

Well it was actually pretty easy.

You had did a little bit of that trademarked Hollywood accounting, along with making sure that all your money was in the Coogan account, which was tax exempt. When tax season is finished, you will be… keeping almost all your money, save for a few thousand dollars.

Once that was over… You would still be rich.

Reward: You have loopholed your way into paying only 10,000 dollars in taxes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[]Boxing and Other Signs of Anger: You signed up for an amateur boxing tournament. You are angry and frustrated from the set, and you want to hit something. DC: 20/40/50 Rolled: D100 => 74

You fought in that boxing tournament… And you were undefeated. 13-0 over the course of three days.

It was almost too easy. The young men who wanted to make it big in the boxing scene. They just did not have what you had.

Most of the people who were there were not dedicated to the craft, and they were utterly unprepared for your ferocity, anger and skill. Turns out, all of Bruce's training made you into a machine of control, and ferocity. No one could stop you.

And by the time you won, you obliterated your competition in such a way they could only watch in awe.

You also got a very interesting nickname: The Emerald Splash.

And it came to you… that there were dozens of promoters and fight organizers that wanted to shake your hand, and sign you to a deal.

They wanted to make you the richest boxer in history.

Reward: You dominated the competition that you faced, in such a steller fashion that there are people that want you to become a professional boxer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[]Modeling (High Fashion): So you got a call from a photographer in LA, some no name. But that no name works for Gucci. And he wants you on their next lineup of products. And he needs you to model for him. Which is great… one problem, you have no idea what the hell you are doing. DC: 60 Rolled: D100 => 83

It was uncomfortable to say the least, the posing and the measuring, following the instructions that the photographer gave you.

And tried on multiple different suits. Sweet god, there were over 20 suits. But by the time it was over. You saw…

Well really nothing but bright light and camera flashes. Then you were paid and just… did that.

But the photographer was extremely impressed.

And a few weeks later, you received a letter from Gucci. They did too, and wished to work with you in. With a Large Paycheck.

Reward: You blew the competition away. And Gucci noticed. Hopefully this will make things easier for you.

+20,000 dollars. +5 to getting a new roll next turn.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[]George Lucas and His Quest for Film: George has written you another letter. This time, he wants you to become a producer on one of his films, THX 1138, which is about to begin production. He says he wants to be able to work with you. And he also has a problem. He's short 100,000 dollars and his other producers aren't forking over the cash. Cost 100,000 Dollars (Note if you do this, the Coogan account will note it, and someone might investigate, suspecting abuse.) Rolled:D100 => 100

Shit. You were not expecting that.

Well, actually, you knew exactly what you were expecting at the scene where they were shooting, but it was such a whiplash from your… TV experience that it was almost otherworldly.

Everything was organized well, there were separate areas for each member of the production crew. The Cast had their own trailers to rest in. There was even Catering! Everyone had their role to play, and everyone was not stressed out and wondering what fresh hell was going to happen the next day.

Dear god, what the hell were you working on when a low budget Sci Fi film with hardly any money behind it, was… just… so much more professional than a tv show by CBS, one of the biggest channels in Television.

"Hi." George seemed to be focused as of late. But he was giving you attention. "Uh… Bruce?" He said as he held out his hand, as he sat.

"Hello George." You replied as you shook. "Good set up."

"A bit scruffy, but the cash infusion helped." He replied as he looked at the script. "Sorry, I'm a bit busy at the moment." He took a breath. "How can I help you?"

Francis Coppala then appeared from a trailer, happy as can be. "George, you're a genius, we're ahead of schedule. We might be-" He paused as he looked at you. "Oh, is that Bruce?"

"Yeah." He replied, quiet as you shook the other producer's hand.

"Bruce O'Brian" You replied.

"Francis Ford Coppola." He started with a grin. "So this is the guardian Angel you've been telling me about saving the film?" George did not say anything, but he did look away. "Thank you Bruce. You probably saved this man from having a heart attack."

George did not like that. "We're ahead of schedule and with this, we've stopped from having to go to the bank and try to get another loan."

"I hope you're not going to ask me to do something for you?" You asked.

"No, but you are getting a producer credit, George said that if you didn't, he'd raise hell." Francis stated. "Well actually… Wanna do a scene?"

"What do you mean?" You asked.

"Direct a scene, just a small one, George is about to fall asleep and it's the last scene of the day."

"Sure."

You did a short hallway shot. But you think it was good.

Very good.

Reward: +3 to Director Skill.

You have prevented THX1138 from going over budget, and with the influx, it even went ahead of schedule.

George and Francis think you are an incredible guardian angel and wish to work with you.

Any project involving Francis or George has a +40 roll to gaining the lead role.

You got your first taste of directing in an actual film.

You will gain a producer credit in THX1138, and will gain 150,000 dollars at the end of its theatrical release.

Unknown effect on critic and audience score. Most likely will make more money than OTL.

Moon: Movie Pitch
Idea that's been rattling in my brain for a while is that we do another take on the Seven Samurai, but more modern and with more kung fu.

The backdrop is [whatever city] in the 1960's. The tenants of a seven story apartment complex are constantly getting screwed over by the landlord in multiple way whether it be higher rent, forcing them to pay for repairs, or just being forced to hold drugs in their homes for the land lord's drug empire. One of the tenants finds the deed to the land that the apartment is on. Realizing this could be their only chance to take back their homes from the landlord's iron fist, the tenants now have to wait over the weekend for their local government offices to open back up after civil unrest and riots caused a lockdown.

A group of tenants head out in search of some men who will help protect them until the morning of Monday from the landlord, who catches word of the deed and plans to storm the apartment complex with his enforcers(having to resort to baseball bats, brass knuckles, and other such martial weapons instead of guns because of the police's heavy crackdown as of late)

Competent Consequences: Turn 13 (May 1972)
You looked at the long list of the report and let out a sigh, before realizing the door to your apartment was open, and you saw your sister waiting for you there. "Hey, Kid." She said as you rubbed your eyes and realized she was there.

"Yah!" You shouted as you jumped in surprise. "What are you doing here Cat?" You raised your voice as you saw her husband and kids sitting on the couch, getting themselves ready to settle in for the day.

Then the suitcases showed up in your vision. "What happened?"

Cat looked away as her husband spoke. "She got fired. Someone heard about what you're doing to CBS and their bosses talked to other bosses… and you know Hollywood. It's a shit show.."

WHAT? "For what reason? Why?"

"Seems you pissed some people off," Cat stated as she sat down in the chair, as she revealed a bottle of whisky. "Checks aren't going in, and now my contract is void."

Jesus Christ. These Assholes were really starting to piss you off. "Is everything okay?"

"What about you kid?" Cat said as she looked at your hands. "We saw the paper, and mom freaked out when she read about you fighting 13 amateur boxing matches!" She pulled you close and just seemed to bore into your soul, yet you looked away. "What the hell is wrong with you? Do you have any idea how hurt you could have been? How it could have looked."

"I won every match in the first round." You said without hesitation. "Hardly touched me.

"Yeah, and then what? Going boxing to get over your anger, that won't help you, or anyone else?"

"It was a competition, it was all regulated." You said.

"That isn't the point?" Cat stated. "You wanted to be an actor, but you're throwing yourself at doing everything but what you want."

"Well, Hollywood has only shown me that it's a scummy place. Where people like me and you, with actual talent, can't make it anywhere! It's all about money and class and fame, that is as hollow as a five dollar bill." You complained. "I came to this town wanting to be somebody. To be something, to be better than dad and better than what everyone wanted."

You sat on the floor and looked down at the cold tile. "You can and you will." Cat replied as she hugged you.

Reward: Cat is now living with you.

Moon: Do You Feel Good?
thanks to @Magoose for talking me into writing this.

"How did it feel to win?" It was a weird first choice of words that came out of your friend/mentor's mouth, just as the two of you entered the gym you usually trained at. It was late, practically the only source of light came from one single overhanging bright bulb, and even that's only because you managed to convince the owner of the place to let you and Bruce have the building for a late night spar with the promise of getting him a picture with Bruce.

"It felt good." You answer, bending down and doing some stretches as Bruce did the same in front of you, if not making the act look vastly better than you. "Went thirteen matches and didn't lose a single one, didn't even get scratched."

Bruce gives you that one look that's neither disappointed nor angry, but still carries the same feeling. "Truly?" One little word and yet it carries so much weight.

You sigh, shaking your head as you sit down to stretch. "No. None of the guys there really felt like opponents, just...obstacles you know? I'm not saying they didn't have some talent, but none of them ever felt like a threat. Like they were just there to have fun." It was true, when you'd gotten to the end of the tournament and finally claimed victory it had felt good at first, until you kept playing back all the matches in your mind. You wouldn't claim it was a hollow victory, but it didn't ring true. "I was worried the way I was feeling was me getting cocky and prideful."

At that Bruce smirks. "Those are two feelings that can go hand in hand," He says, moving his own hands to hold one another. "But it is better to keep them separate so you can do more with them." He finishes, moving his hands to his sides as he cracks his knuckles.

"How long do you spend on those little nuggets of wisdom anyways?" You ask jokingly, standing back up and feeling refreshed.

"Not as long as you'd think." Bruce answers, cracking his neck in a way that sound very satisfying. "My master used to say that a teacher does not start to offer wisdom until a truly troublesome or talented student comes before him." He pauses then, smiling fondly at an old memory. "I was both."

You and Bruce stand before one another, and you take note that even if you've got two inches of height on the man he still feels larger than life before you. You both bow and you take up a boxing stance while he moves into his preferred mishmash style. "So aside from talking about the tournament, any other reason you wanted us to come out here?" You asked, more to keep your nerves down with talking rather than actual curiosity.

You move forward, throwing out a quick jab that Bruce dodges like it was moving in slow motion. The follow up jab you send he actually deflects before sending a lightning fast kick your way. You know you aren't dodging that so you bend and take it with your guard, already knowing you're going to feel sore in the morning from this whole thing.

"I heard that your sister is living with you." Bruce answers casually, causing you to falter for a brief second which he capitalizes on by flicking his hand out. Your guard stays true and the worst you get is some sore feeling in your hands. "I also heard she was fired from her job because of your current actions with CBS."

You frown, throwing out a one-two combo that Bruce weaves through before stepping in closer for an uppercut. He blocks it with both hands but to your amazement he uses the momentum of the attack to then leap backwards and create some distance between the two of you. If it weren't so dang cool you'd be mad right now.

"CBS has a lot of pull," You huff out, readjusting your footing. "Even though practically everyone can see they're in the wrong, they don't want to mess with someone that important. So because of something I did," You duck as Bruce sends out a kick, pushing into his guard before going for a blow to his side which he blocks with his elbow and causing you to wince and retreat. "My sister's the one having to pay for it. It's bullshit."

"Life isn't fair, especially to those who try to live a righteous path." Bruce says, bouncing on his feet in the same spot. "Up until now you've been rigid in your belief's like a mighty glacier, it's the reason you were able to handle all those opponents in that tournament." He moves forward and you block the kick that never actually comes, instead he readjusts and slams his fist into your sternum so hard it knocks you back a few feet. "But now you're dealing with something bigger than you and you're melting under the pressure. However a mighty glacier that melts becomes something just as powerful, and vastly more flexible." You throw out a jab and are shocked to see that Bruce just grabs it and keeps it there in his grasp. "You are becoming water, and water can flow or can crash Bruce. It can be still as a pond or a raging as the ocean. You can try grasping it with your hands and it will slip right through, but pour it in a glass and suddenly it IS the glass." He lets go of your hand and you relax as the room just seems to be silent except for your heavy breathing. Bruce stares at you for a few seconds before gesturing at your feet. "Why do you try to remain so rooted to the ground in this fight? You learned how to move from me, so move."

You frown. "I've been boxing more than anything lately, it's the style of fighting I'm used to right now-"

"There is no one style Bruce." He cuts you off. "You take everything you've learned until now and you use it. If the footwork of boxing isn't working for you then use something else. Your punches are quick and powerful, but they're useless if all you do is stand still."

"But I've never tried something like that." You answer. The idea that Bruce is throwing at you is sound, and it makes sense, but implementing that in the middle of a fight? It's dangerous.

"You will never know if it works unless you try. You're walking down a path towards a glorious destination and the road you walk on is hard, but all you're doing is focusing on the destination and not the journey. You ignore the chance to experience things as they come." He smirks then, and you look down to notice that his fist it only an inch away from your unguarded sternum. "Don't focus on one thing, is what I'm saying."

You're of course sent backwards from the punch that hits you like a dump truck, falling to your back before sliding a bit across the floor. Even with the pain though you can't help but go over Bruce's words, and how they apply to both the fight and your current woes with CBS. So, like with almost everything else you've been dealing with lately, you do the one thing you're supposed to do in a situation like this.

You get back up and try again.

WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE: Turn 13 Results (May-June 1972)
-[]Lawyering up (Against CBS, with the Cast): You are going to get a lawyer, and then you are going to start litigation against CBS for their bullshit. What they did to you and everyone else was cruel, insane and abusive. Alan and company, save Mclean, who is still recovering at a psych ward, also want to raise hell to get what they want. Cost 10,000 DC:??? Rolled: D100 + 20 => 108

Burn it all down. That was what your father would have done. Burn it all down and leave nothing for the ashes. That was the business of revenge. Of a Blood feud for what they did to you.

But this, this was business. And you had a reputation to keep, if you even had one at all.

The Lawyers managed to have the entire company's balls in a vise. CBS, the board of directors and all their stooges turned on each other trying to save their own perfidious and self righteous asses as they realized the ship was going to sink and their own careers were going to be going down with it. So all they could do, besides try to make themselves look better for whatever new job that they might get…

Well, it was like your father always said, trying to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.

It was like watching a car crash in slow motion, and there was so much going on that it was almost impossible to wrap your head around it. Like seriously? Not only had they been wrong… and they had done wrong, they had nearly killed you, and several others.

The families and the extras themselves brought stirring, downright electrifying and media grabbing headlines about the horror on the show, and that the actors, and you, in particular, was being called out as one of the few beacons of sanity, normality, and professionalism on a set going to hell, as the entire station, money men, and corporate suits just up and left all of you to make a show entirely with spit and duct tape. So much of the staff on those last days, those that stuck around after nearly being cooked and after everything was all but called off.

Then you told the court exactly what you wanted. "I just wanted to make a TV show."

Well there was a lot more. But to say that CBS has done fucked up was an understatement.

Stars on TV shows that were in production, established veterans sticking up to their beliefs for that Wunderkind that they heard about, let their voices be heard, as they showed support, all in their own… strange ways.

And the jury spoke, after less than a month.

CBS was guilty, and had to pay you royally in damages. Not only lost contract money. Not only in lawyer fees and all that other fun legal stuff.

But you had your pick. What do you choose?

[]10 million dollars: Your split of the loot, after your lawyers basically torched CBS to the ground for all sorts of stuff. Sure it wasn't the war chest, but that was because… well CBS was not going to survive this upheaval. Not in its current form.

[]Rights to a Show?: So, they hold the rights to characters, shows, and trademarks. And that is about to be given to you, as part of restitution for damages, for the MASH debacle. These rights are worth millions of dollars. Possibly even more. (a randomly rolled number of a list of CBS shows of this era will be rolled for and given to you. The rest will go back to their creators.)

----------------------------------------------------

[]Financing: CBS, in any form that it may take in the future, will have to legally finance a project for television in the future, be it a series, a miniseries, or a TV movie, without seeing a cent in royalty and restitution payments. They have to legally finance a project you are helming... and see not a cent in return. This offer will remain open, if taken, for the rest of your natural life.
- []Cat Catastrophe: You and Cat are now living together. Perhaps you can help her get a new job as a director? DC:??? Rolled: D100 => 22

Seems that this town wanted her out of it.

All you had to say to that was fuck them.

Failure: It seems your sister has been blacklisted, in all but name.

----------------------------------------------------

- []Action Directing: It seems the town has been talking about how much of a beast you are at just being a stunt person. In fact, they knew you were a student of Bruce Lee. And they think that means you know how to stage and block a fight? Maybe you can DC? ??? Rolled: D100 => 86+10=96

Turns out, in this town, people who know how to fight are a true dime a dozen. No one knew how to make it look good, no one knew how to pull punches.

Hell, no one really even knew how to fight at all. So you were surprised that, despite your reputation basically preceding you everywhere you go… you also saw lots of work and the type of work where you only have to work three days most of the time.

And Bruce was back in Hong Kong to shoot another movie. Meaning that the most famous trainer, and fight choreographer, in your mind at least, in Hollywood was out of the country.

Thankfully, it seems that your reputation as his student also seemed to carry some weight. And your time actually working with Bruce on fight scenes warranted all of it.

Several TV shows wanted, nay needed your expertise, and needed a stuntman who was good at taking punches.

And you did wonderfully. After only a few rehearsals, you told them all that the best way to do it, and they shot the scenes to perfection.

Turns out, you had quite the talent for directing the action.

Reward: +3 to directing skills.

You have gained a reputation for making a darn fine action scene when called upon.

----------------------------------------------------

- [] Call your parents: You need to call mom and dad, and see how they are doing. DC: 10 (You call your parents and see what they are doing) Rolled: D100 => 85

"Hello." the phone was answered and you heard your mother's voice.

"Hi, Mom." You said with a smile. "Sorry for not calling sooner?"

You heard a sob, and she yelled. "Get over here, it's Bruce!"

Your father's voice came in. "Bruce! How have you been, we saw the papers, all the news coming from Hollywood. Make a star of yourself yet?"

"No Dad. More like everything's all fucked up." You replied.

"Language bruce!" Your mother shouted.

"Oh come on, tell me about it." He said.

"Hollywood is trying to kill me, so I'm fighting back against it." You replied.

"Always like you to do that, kid." He replied. "Just to tell you though. You'll be fine. I promise."

"Why do you say that?"

"You haven't found the woman of your dreams yet, kid. Believe me, you might have decided to run away with her." He then chuckled. "Like I did with your mom."

"Haha, dad." You said.

"Just tell you this: Don't give up. We all believe in you kid."

Reward: Sometimes the best kind of support is just some simple words that one already knows.

----------------------------------------------------

- []Networking: Well time to start finding out who might actually be interested in meeting you. (Write-in what you want to try and network with)
--[]George Romero Rolled: D100 => 17

You had wanted to meet with a filmmaker, George Romero, but he was unfortunately too busy to really do anything. Even though you had sent a letter and everything, he did not get back. All you knew for certain, was that things were not looking well for the film he was working on.

Seems that he wanted to have creative control, and do what he wanted, and whoever was financing him wasn't going to have it.

You wished him luck, but something told you he didn't need it. Least, not yet anyway.

Failure.

Hi.

Shil-I mean, Promoting Others.
Also, go check out Overmind's new MCU Producer Quest, it's great, the ideas are wild, the VFX crew aren't screwing up this time but the composers are, and I promised to shill promote for him. :V

On a Dream and a Prayer: A Marvel Producer Quest

A new Universe, a new Producer, a new MCU.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.
