Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Wouldn't it make more sense to ambush Ling Qi on the way back to ninja the stuff/do it when she is tired?

Good point - ugh, that would be... awkward.

Hmmm... an interesting alternative is to take the tunnel - but be playing the flute the whole way. It'd make ambushing her accurately a *lot* harder for minimal effort. Probably not worth doing so.

Now, if there *is* going to be an attempt to attack Ling Qi... well, it seems a bit... rash, to be honest. What would be the gain? And it's likely that it'd require either several lower cultivators of Kang Zihao himself to accomplish - would Zihao be willing to waste the time to ambush a servant of the hated Bai himself? Perhaps "Ling Qi fails a sect mission" is enough to invest some effort? I don't recall there really being a penalty though.

And if it's not him and not a sufficiently-sized group, Ling Qi will likely beat them and take their stuff - at least, I don't think anyone south of Zihao has mid-Silver, and Ling Qi's good at evasion and group fights. If they lay an ambush and she doesn't show... do they give it up, or do they wait to ambush her on the way back? Conversely, if there's a failed ambush, do they try and get Kang Zihao himself or other reinforcements to take her own on the way back?

Again, of course, that's assuming there'll be an ambush. Ah, what the hell - Ling Qi should probably be fine against the beasts involved, and she thinks she can make it to the place in time while going over the top.

[X] Climb the mountain.

Is anyone else again thinking it's a pity we didn't keep the qi regen amulet?

If we had that, we should be able to basically run SCS all the way up the mountain without losing any qi.

Worked off of the lingering qi from fighting, I believe.

I don't know what to vote. But I do want to I say something.

We must Investigate the attacks on the girls' side...

Because I got a bad feeling about this.

After all we know a person that is practicing debilitating strikes, that can get to the dorms and has a grudge against the girls there.
Please Suyin don't go full dark side!!

Grats on the person who called it re: Ji Rong. Makes total sense for him and his background, but dang, right after Cai said specifically at the 2nd Realm Meeting that abuse of powers would be an assault upon her and of course, that 1st post discussion re: embezzlement consequences from the Empire, that's really pushing it. But if Ji Rong's the type not to back down, he's going to be feeling self-righteous from this, and he's going to end up in conflict with Cai's group.

Talking to Han Jian was illuminating - as was finally discovering what's up with the enmity between Sun Liling and Bai Meizhen. And if it's grandfather, that's really not that far back in cultivator memory.

The Mom feels. ;_; Worried about Suyin too - definitely taking her social next week. Speaking of Suyin... did anyone else have a sinking feeling when listening to Cai Renxiang's description of outer circle girls getting beaten by paralysis? Right after Suyin is developing acupuncture skills? It doesn't work on us -- but we're Silver; it's probably a lot easier against Golds.

Sigh of relief from me on seeing the rolls for arm meridian and building a kiln. Looks like the beast cores fetch a pretty penny too.

Other than that, I'm not as scared about going up the tunnel, and I think it's somewhat worth doing so to avoid exhausting ourselves before the peak. Our FVM is very cost efficient at the moment, and beating cultivators will probably give more loot once one counts in talismans and weapons (but it might escalate the situation with Kang Zihao). Also, TBH, I don't think we have that much room in our space ring (although we might pick up more space rings from them?).

So, given the blurb, going up the moutain probably means using Trackless Escape! Finally! Just for that I want to vote for it lol. Also, while we can probably beat up a lot of disciples easily, I'd prefer not doing so before we actually do the mission.

... oh lordy, that's an unpleasant thought. How many girls were attacked? And can Ling Qi casually mention the job she was set to Li Suyin?

Because as bad as it'd be for Ling Qi to confront Li Suyin for breaking rules, it'd be even worse (for Ling Qi) to let her escape, and almost as bad as someone else catching her.

Hm. The safe path carries the risk of being ambushes on it, but on the other hand they might ambush Ling Qi if she takes the mountain path. Still the mountain presumably contains secrets, and given this is a Moon related location a Moon aligned art wouldn't be out of the question. So for now I'll vote for climbing it.

[X] Climb the mountain.

@yrsillar, first, rolls: we were at 99 physical, not 97. Also, you forgot the 2 auto-success for meridian (Silver breakthrough).

Second, well, your timeline is funky. Emperor An was over 600 when he ascended, so if he became Emperor 50 or so years ago that's weird as fuck, as it basically mean he became an Emperor when he was 550 and then left 50 years later, which just seems bizarre.
word got deleted in editing. the Sun fiasco happened around four hundred years ago

One thing I would like to point out is that this person is some how avoiding Cai sight. I don't think our friend would be able to do that a full stage lower. It might be good to warn her about it. But I doubt it is her simply because I cant see her being able to avoid detection. She has no skills in that area and the only floor she should have access to is the 1st unless she is doing 4 quests a week or something.

OTOH, we know Suyin has a water movement technique based upon staying out of sight. You're probably right, but I'm still worried. A 5 yellow stone job is basically equivalent to one of the Sect job uniques anyway so I'm not opposed to taking it next week.

Wait, I thought we were pretty sure he (Ji Rong) abused his position of authority granted during the Round Table Meeting. Was this not the general speculation? I don't see how it'd otherwise fall to Mr. Fanfic Reader to administer discipline, it's not like Cai can't fight her own battles.

...on that note, I think Cai might actually be meeting with us to ask why we aren't handing out fines and such.

Edit: Having thought about it I'm pretty sure she is going to try to give us more responsibilities (in exchange for favors, resources, etc.) and see if her leadership style and our own personalities mesh. Call it a trial period.

Calllllled it. :V

I feel extra-vindicated because I got far more funnies than insightfuls for this post. Which is to say I got 4 funnies and no insightfuls for this post. (tho i did get 2 likes, let's be fair)

Unfortunately Cai admits that she's shit at stealth-detecting and Li Suyin has shown herself to be at least capable of fooling Huang Da's senses with her stealth foot art.

I don't want to assume this is the case either, but when it comes to 'no skills in that area' you are unfortunately incorrect.

Wow yrsillar is a machine. 8k worth of quality writing. NIce!
Also EPC is proving to be a bitch to cultivate.... Was hopng we'd get this week. Atleast we're making good progress on everything else.

[X] Climb the mountain.

Yeah not much to say on the choice. It leverages our sneakiness best and we might find something interesting. Not interested in having encounter with Kang Zihao, no matter how forewarned.

[X] Climb the mountain.

Oh dear God suyin tell me it ain't so....

Maybe with Su lings fox techniques they've been able to hide?

Also yay for Han advice .

Yay for mid silver.

Yay for kiln.

Yay for Su ling

We know the leg art she learned is a stealth art.

[X] Climb the mountain.

If Cai is going to hand out well paying, interesting jobs, well, she's got a customer in me.

The Mountain action's downside is that we get XP and Beast Cores? Win-win.

Also, no wonder the Emperor didn't punish Sun. His weakest soldier was at Green/Bronze? That's insane!

He'd be throwing soldiers into a meatgrinder for it. "No province could match his army" means he'd have to raise a significant percentage of the entire Empire's levy. That shit gets expensive fast, not to mention that's not a situation one wants to be in when faced by barbarians on all sides, as the Empire seems to be.

At least Thousand Lakes became an Inner Province from that, no more bleeding resources to fight the Red Suns. Not worth the death of a White cultivator, not by a long shot, but it goes a way to make up for it.

So happy to see this update (not that I'm addicted or anything)

Ling Qi,

I too am somewhat at a loss. What does one say to a daughter they thought long dead or worse? What does one say to a daughter who found me so poor a parent that they preferred the gutter to my hearth? How many months did I search, and seek, hoping to find you again, hoping you had not met some awful fate.

Yet you remained like the wind, ever beyond my reach, and in the end, I had no choice but to give up… as I always have. It is perhaps fitting, in a way. It seems you have achieved a better opportunity than I could have hoped to give you in any case. I am glad you are alive. I know little of the doings of Immortals, but I can only hope you are healthy and happy.

I do not know what else can be said. I thank you for your gift, and will accept it. I do not deserve it, poor parent that I am, yet, given circumstances as they are, I cannot in good conscience allow myself to refuse. I can offer you nothing in return save my well wishes.

You owe me nothing, my daughter. Please do not feel any obligation toward me. Stay safe and live well.

Ling Qingge
So I'm not completely sure how to feel about this. Is this the mother's way of playing Qi or maybe she really thinks cutting ties is best. Either way she seems interesting. Don't want to sink too much time on her to be honest but I would be interested in continuing to talk through letters.

Damn, we did get lucky with Meizhen and Liling appearing and fuuuuuck was it a bad move to try and get the two to bunk together xD
This was awesomely interesting. I say we fulfill our role as protagonist and help raise a clan to prosperity except it'll be our bestie's rather than our own!

Su Ling shrugged a little. "I have to be. If you're lookin into beast rearing, you should know cores are the best food for young spirit beasts, right?" She said simply, pausing a beat for Ling Qi to give an acknowledging nod. "Well same goes for people like me. I can get by on mortal food, but only barely. Least I'm lucky enough that I can handle greens if they have a bit of qi in 'em," she continued with a bit of bitterness.

"That makes some sense," Ling Qi replied. Was that why Meizhen never ate anything she made? "So, I guess preparing cores was pretty much learning to cook for you?"

"Kinda," the other girl replied with a shrug. "Beast Cores are full of energy, but unless you're like me, or the snake princess, the energy is toxic to humans."
Su Ling shrugged. "Yeah, sure. You're the one handing out techniques. I can take the time to give you a few tips."
Haha so Meizhen assumes the two are our subordinates just as everyone assumes that we're her's. Interesting to find out more about those with spirit ancestry and just nice to see Su Ling so friendly and looking healthier.

Persuasion+Manip+equip. 8 dice
2 1 5 6 8 5 1 1. 1 success
... That was bad o_O

Ling Qi's got some skill. And apparently the scary badass Shenhua is also into embroidery? Fuck yeah Shenhua, don't let yourself be railroaded by expectations, pick whatever hobbies you want! So now we have Cai's take Ji Rong and she's shown herself to be far more commanding and aware than is comfortable. She's scarily intense.

"I have no ill intentions toward Miss Bai," Cai Renxiang replied, inclining her head slightly. "Things are not as they were in past centuries, change is coming, and grudges are washed away with the tides of time," she continued, making Ling Qi narrow her eyes at the vague wording. "No. Rather, there have been a number of incidents involving attacks upon female disciples in the outer sections of the residential area. They have been beaten and humiliated, robbed down to their smallclothes."

Ling Qi considered this for a moment, considering that she really needed to pay more attention to things going on outside her immediate sphere. Understanding quickly dawned though as she considered the other females among those at the meeting. If someone was attacking from ambush at night, they probably weren't going to come out if Renxiang was around, glowing like a lamp. She doubted Sun Liling or Bai Meizhen would even be interested in trying to deal with it either. "Do you know anything about the attacker?" Ling Qi asked.

"They seem to have an art which allows them to avoid my sight," Cai Renxiang replied a touch sourly. "But I will admit, I have little use for subtlety in my personal doings. Other than that, the only confirmed information is that they inflict paralysis with their attacks. They have not struck at any capable of fighting back beyond their initial blow yet." She paused for a few moments studying Ling Qi again. "I am aware that cultivation time is valuable, should you bring this person to me. I am willing to offer you recompense for your time, as well as my gratitude. Five yellow spirit stones seems an appropriate salary."
So I'm up for punishing this arsehole and we're sorta perfect for this but this sounds like a gateway request and before we know it we'll be swept up in Renxiang's wake and serving tea as she meets with the next up and comer... I still think we should do it but yeah, just putting it out there. Beware charismatic forces of nature!

13/13 Arm meridian opened.

3 overflow to physical

120/120. Mid Silver reached
Fucking yeah!

"I wanted to do this myself," Ling Qi replied firmly. "This egg was entrusted to me, you know? I don't want to risk some random guy from the crafting hall knowing what I'm doing, and the spirit deserves my personal attention and care."

Her friends expression softened a bit, and she thought she heard an approving murmur from Cui brushing her thoughts. "You will clean everything you touch, including the bath," she replied flatly, stepping aside. "And it will not be 'later'."
I massively grinned at this, it was so sweet.

Fuck that ending. Looks like this won't be easy. Not sure going up the mountain is better though, they know where we'll go so why would it be better to get there tired?

Because as bad as it'd be for Ling Qi to confront Li Suyin for breaking rules, it'd be even worse (for Ling Qi) to let her escape, and almost as bad as someone else catching her.

It probably isn't her, but there is a chance...

Maybe we are lucky and maybe it's just a random mook.

But I don't want to leave it chance, because if it's her we can try to solve things.
If it isn't we still get a bit of Cai favour.

Hell, for all we know Cai herself could be lying about not being able to find her.
She learned what happened to Suyin's eye and doesn't want to have to punish her so she sends us.

What do I know:
There is change it's her and I will not leave it to luck...

Other than that, I'm not as scared about going up the tunnel, and I think it's somewhat worth doing so to avoid exhausting ourselves before the peak. Also, TBH, I don't think we have that much room in our space ring (although we might pick up more space rings from them?).
Also, it really would make more sense for them to ambush us when we're coming back, and are tired.

Given that we need to carefully manage our qi, we don't want to get too sidetracked on our journey up.

In that light, it may be best to take the tunnel up, avoiding trouble, and then explore the mountain and kill beasts on the way down, when we'll better know how much qi we have to play with.

Downside: while it would make sense for them to wait until after to ambush us, the tunnel option has been signaled to have a risk of ambush if we take it. Metagaming a little here, the risk is probably more like 100%, because the options tend to be what they're presented as.
