Maybe something on the difficulty level of the Rimefur Wolf would need a group as big as that. Heijin is what grade again? 1? So a Grade 2 spirit might be Green equivalent, or up towards the later stages of Yellow, in which case Rimefur is hard enough that we'd actually need that, at least so that we could split up to search and still have groups large enough not to be stomped immediately and get help.

Until we get some spine or arm arts it might be a good idea to bring people with us on these missions since our arts are support focussed, no point just depending on stats and weapons. It's a good argument for befriending Su Ling since she's the most likely to be interested though Xiulan and Suyin might also be convinced and we should at least ask Best Snek.

I'm actually wanting to push Su Ling and us doing Mid-hunting missions around Li Suyin doing the Hard Gather Herb mission. Seems the kind of thing that would be optimal for all three of us, as it means being able to get 6 points each fo Su Ling and us, 8 for Li suyin, a fuck ton of money from beaste cores, and some nice stat and skill increases.

Things like unique hunting quest probably need us to be a bit stronger than currently, though it's hard to say. Maybe FVM3 can get us there. SCS3 also need us a spine, so that might also really help.

What're your thoughts on going with Xiulan? When she eventually goes to procure a spirit I kinda want to try and tagalong and this could be a good segue into that.

Going on Sect Jobs with people is always good, except I am like 80% sure that doing unique sect jobs like "kill that one wolf" with someone means halving your points.

Regardless, it's a good idea to do it with Xiulan from time to time.

Li Suyin and Su Ling could have been even worse off without him - not dead, probably, we at least have not heard of any deaths, but being completely robbed and hurt even more, for sure.

Yeah I think the author kind of wanted a creepy character with huang da but maybe made him too creepy on introduction by mistake and is now trying to correct that a bit. I mean he's still creepy but in the last interactions with him you see a little more human emotions from him like when his smile falters a bit after ling qi rejection but also how happy he gets when she praises him.

Also the comment that ji Rong made about how the huang he killed tried to go vampire suggest that maybe their family arts involve arts similar to vampires with the whole thrall and assassin combo they got going on.

The reason rong is prob alive because a agent of the government found out about a cultivator attacking mortals (going vampire) and put a stop to any shenanigans when they showed up

Hard to deny that he's creepy but we should also note that Ling Qi is an unreliable narrator and extremely jaded for a child, understandable since her childhood was either spent in a brothel or the street but it still leads to her inclination to think the worst of people. The fact that the interraction startled her after already having fought didn't help.

We actually do know he told us he would make sure we couldn't talk about it one way or another. We also know he attacked us because he didn't want to share the vent. Keep in mind Su Ling is hated by Han Jian's friends, and Li Suyin disliked. So.. maybe not Zihao, but Fan Yu and Huang is the right comparison...

I also wasn't doing a comparison so much as answering the bit about "It's OK to do wrong things", and saying "Yeah, it's OK".

EDIT: Like, in the real world, think about someone purposefully making it hard on someone else to get to a exam site to help our a friend get a job. That would be a big never for me, but in the specific setting we are in? I completely understand doing it and would push for it.

Not sure what the "he attacked us" comment is an argument for? I was suggesting that rather than a retcon, his changing attitude is heavily influenced by Ling Qi's perception of him; I still think he's creepy but I question how much of a threat he is. Are you saying he's a bad person? Arguably, his attacking us is less immoral than your suggestion that Han Jian would do the same to sabotage Su Ling. To be honest the QM even said Huang Da's role won't go too far so we know for a fact that Ling Qi's fears were excessive. Pretty much I just think he's a creep but that he was never as dangerous as we (or Ling Qi) feared.

...if you go in for that sort of thing, anyway. To put it lightly he's a bit of a wad. If he wasn't a bit of a wad he wouldn't be as objectionable, maybe even a little sweet. But he's a wad. You can work with wads, but it's not really enjoyable. From my position as a reader, though, I don't have to work with the wad, instead all I have to do is read semi-gleefully about someone else working with a wad.

'wad' as in 'what a dick'? Sorry, I'm a bit obtuse when it comes to slang.

That's what makes him interesting in my books. That, and the ability to correct his course, which I think something that we might want to encourage, if only by accepting an olive branch for the time being.

Though I would admit that I am partly influenced by the amusing omake featuring his cousin who is no less of a tool. It must run in the family.

We have seen evidence he would have, both because it was the only way to keep the vent, and because Bai told us so.

He's not a threat until he gets a new obsession. He might even be a creepy ally. His attitude hasn't changed though?

I don't see what I suggested Han Jian could do would be immoral at all, while what he did certain was, however. Huang Da's role not going too far doesn't mean Ling Qi's fear were excessive, too, as it was in response to talk of him being a rapist and trying to get Li Suyin/Ling Qi.
