So, it is entirely possible that this trope exists here and that we would get some sort of permanent missable benefit if we delay our breakthrough to widen our qi pool

on the other hand, it could just be that we could breakthrough now and catchup later with qi pool size

This is unrelated to the AS4 thing that someone else was asking about.

I specifically explicitly asked QM just now if training Qi increases before breaking through provides a benefit and he said it does.

It counts the base qi only not any bonus you have, there is no cap on qi, but it does get kinda grindy if you push it too far. There are some benefits to having lots of qi pre cultivation breakthrough though

And I am basically curious to know if those benefits are something we will miss or not (eg, is it just higher chance of breakthrough? or is it a permanent bonus to X?)

Um, a success is getting a seven or above right? So the possibility of any one d10 roll being a success is 2/5?

So the odds of getting one or zero successes is...15.863 percent. We were moderately lucky, yes.

Edit: Of course the odds of them rolling a zero, one, or two winds up being 41.990 percent, which would have been sufficient for our three to beat them.

This would be my preliminary plan anyway. We're near guaranteed to reach Peak Red this turn and we know we can reach it, then breakthrough on the same turn, and I value Yellow more than Silver as I believe it gives us the opportunity to unlock an additional action. It also allows us to bind a spirit if we go that way, or look into EPC.

The social actions are focused on our closest friends, and to try and bind them tighter together so we can enable them to all use the Vent as it's a phenomenal resource, and Han Jian's group has been very helpful to us and would likely aid us in the future. Plus now with both Gu Xuilan and Han Jian pushing for friendliness (due to them both being our labeled as our friends) I feel pretty confident in it being a success given their social abilities and the influence they wield over their group. Or at least, ensuring minimal animosity. Plus as I've previously mentioned, there's no reason for Suyin/Su Ling/Meizhen have to cultivate at the Vent simultaneously with the other group so there is a way to minimize friction.

House hunting with Bai Meizhen to further that SL, because we're doing a breakthrough this turn which should be enlightening, and due to Ling Qi's previous homelessness meaning that a house is a precious thing to her. There are also likely mechanical benefits to picking a house with Meizhen, instead of purely fluff purposes.

I don't like telling Han Jian's group about the vent so early. Whilst fixing Xiulan's issue is an important step, getting the two groups to have some interaction in which Xiulan and Fan Yu aren't being total shits should come before we share the incredible resource we found with 2 of our friends with people who've been rather unpleasant to 2/3 of that friendship.

I get that you want to share the vent, but Su Ling and Li Suyin deserve better than to have us spill their secret to people who haven't been pleasant to them just because they've been good to us and we want to share it around. We should have some time where the groups interact in a mostly positive manner before trying to persuade one of the groups give away something so valuable.

As it stands your vote strikes me as being very unfair to Su Ling and Li Suyin.

Personally, I'm ok if the two sides aren't friends so long as the two are cordial and there's a mutually beneficial relationship. We might as well just tell Xiulan what we were hoping to accomplish with the combined training and just arrange a more mercantile trade of physical training for access to vent.

My phrasing was referring to 2 weeks ago when we invited Li Suyin and Su Ling to training with Han Jian.

Because extra actions are limited by spiritual cultivation. We don't know all the requirements for a sixth action, but we know we must be Yellow, and suspect the second qualification is to have high qi, which we might already have.

Yes because there's only so many ways we can get a house:

1 Evict people by force or the threat of it
2 Convince them to share if it's large enough
3 Bribe them for it.

Everyone also fears/hates Meizhen thanks to her family's rep so they're likely not to happy or cooperative and Meizhen isn't good at social.

Yeah, this is the kind of time sensitive thing where I think we have to do it. Letting the default action turn over seems like buying trouble.

Bluntly, I think asking at all is something of a dick move at this point. We already tried merging the groups once with a view to sharing the vent location and it went horribly. Asking again now, without any sort of new, positive interaction between the two groups is callous at best. Remember that Ling Qi is not exactly a master of social interactions and can easliy miss or overlook things, like how happy our friends might really be.

I think it's actually worse doing it now because Li Suyin had the big disappointment at losing the competition last week and we had the big (public) friendly interaction with Gai Xiulan (wherin we brought a very obvious dress) this time. Suyin had Xiulan be really nasty to her the one time we had the groups interact. Su Ling has already expressed her dislike of the way Ling Qi is changing (remember her comments at the beginning of our hunt about the perfume, and thinking we were one of the sensible ones), which is clearly Xiulan's influence. Going to Su Ling and Li Suyin now and saying we talked it out with Xiulan (who wasn't the only rude one), after she was super helpful in my fight, can we please share this super important secret could easily come across as trying to pay off Xiulan for her helping Ling Qi. Worse it could come across that you see the friendship of Xiulan and the nobles as more important than theirs.

It puts a huge pressure on them (especially Suyin) to accept, because their friend clearly owes these nobles and really wants to repay that debt. Combine that with Li Suyin's dissapointment from week 11 and I'm worried we'll push our friend to accept a decision she doesn't like and will grow to resent us for asking of them.


I'm also not sure why you want to cultivate AS this week either. We have enough other actions that I'd vastly prefer to do, like puzzling out the tokens, thanking our saviours, sending money to mother, getting a handle on the political landscape etc. Personally I think these are much more important for the week than trying to do a bit more work on AS.

He's afraid of the short term thinker brigade whose going to come out the moment we hit Yellow and try and drop Argent Soul to start cultivating Eight Moon Ceremony, even though we're only a step away from peak Argent Soul and some nice permanent bonuses.

To be fair, his fear is legitimate, it will happen, but I think that's something to fight then rather then now.

you replied to a guy talking about the social repercussions of asking to share the vent.
this has nothing to do with our own cultivation art
 
I am very much against inviting Han Jian's team to the vents to interact with Suyin and Ling.

The last time we tried to train together the dice pulled off a miracle, with four successes on four dice, and the results were, at best, meh.

We should have had a disaster on our hands.

Now Suyin has problems and is unsure, and Xiulan has problems with her, while Fan is being his dickish self.

So were we to try something like this we would get extremely bad results.

We are not, in any way, a social powerhouse who could pull this off.

I thought I was missing an action! I had worked out what we could do this week, but my plan wasn't matching up. Fixed. And now the plan has better situational awareness!
