Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Awesome update. That said, I'm terrible with Chinese names, so who were the people who just saved us again?

Cai Renxing, the daughter of the Duchess of the province, and her retainer, Gan Guangli, a guy that's been on our side in the spars in Elder Zhou's class.

... Actually, thinking back on it, it's a little strange that we've had Gan Guangli as our partner so many times in Zhou's class. We do match up well in that we're a support and he seems to be melee-focused, but still... What are the chances that CRX requested either GG pair up with us or asked Elder Zhou to pair GG with us?

Were they bad luck? it looked to me like we had twice as many dice to dodge as they had to hit.

@Katreus, having 4 success with 10 dice is average. The enemy archers had average rolls, and so did we.

Oh. You're right. Most of them were average. That 1 success out of 7 rolls though seemed lucky, esp. since we only rolled 3 successes on that dodge.

ok, i looked it up. it was not twice as much

Archer 1 had 10 attack dice and we had 15 dice to dodge him
Archer 2 had 9 attack dice and we had 14 dice to dodge him.

So, not twicce but about 50% more dice than them.

Round 2 archery was lower for both
Archer 1 had 8 attack dice, we had 12 defense dice
Archer 2 had 7 attack dice, we had 11 defense dice.

We want to cook him chicken dinner as a thank you, I'm pretty sure that he just stands out more in Ling Qi's memory because he's big and buff and friendly and she finds him kind of hot.

You may only have one equipped at a time. It doesn't disappear if unequipped though, you just don't get any bonuses except the permanent ones until you re-equip it, which can only be done between turns. So yeah it is an opportunity cost thing.
Follow on questions if you don't mind then.
  1. Do we keep Argent Soul equiped while learning our new Eight Phases Ceremony?
  2. If we have EPC equipped, and we train at the Vent, would we still get the successes towards Argent Soul?
  3. You've mentioned before that quality of an art is important, as some are just flat out better. It may be kind of spoilery (I wouldn't think so given we're soon to get it anyway), but is there a sufficient difference between AS and EPC that we'd only keep the latter equipped anyway? As while it's incredible, one of the best things about it is that everyone gets it which means those who don't have access to another cultivation art can benefit enormously and aren't as hindered. This is no longer the case for Ling Qi, due to the incredibly lucky roll.

They where both members of the advance physical class. Cai Renxing is the daughter of the duchess of the provinces we are in, also Ling Qi's home province, their family is only 3 generations old and have the youngest White cultivator (highest level) in the empire. She was one of those that did not look at Ling Qi with greed when the elder told everyone that Ling Qi had a fortuitous encounter during the test, she did study Ling Qi though probably memorizing who she was. She is one of those that are on the yellow/silver soul scale but apparently not on the same level as the two monster Bai Meizhen and Sun Liling.

Gan Guangli has an art that makes him grow as the battle progresses and was partnered several times with Ling Qi during sparring practices. He understand the importance of good accessorization and coordination of equipment and is very loyal to Cai Renxing... and inside Ling Qi's strike zone when it comes to men.:p

Speaking of. @yrsillar, Ling Qi doesn't have a relationship metre for Cai Renxiang because what she did wasn't personal enough, and she didn't let us look at her awesome muscles?

We lose the successes should we unequip AS, thus we should finish AS5 first.
And we suspect that AS5 would make most if not all of AS boni permanent anyway.

Yeah, half the point of getting to AS5 first is to try and make as much of it permanent as possible. I'm really hoping the cultivation dice are part of this, but...

I'd still like a clarification if that's the case though.

The second point makes me rather incredulous though if only because it kind of neutralizes the impacts of choice in the quest, and having decisions with both rewards and consequences is an important thing. Could you provide reasoning for what makes you suspect such a thing?

you can unequip a cultivation art? i thought equipping was for combat arts which depended on meridians. Ithought cultivation arts use the dantian and work concurrently...

although this does explain the whole "bonus now permanent" thing of cultivation art

We already have a lot of AS boni become permanent.

And I am pretty sure yrsillar confirmed the loss of successes if we unequipped an art before hitting a new level or maxing it.

These are AS boni that became permanent so far.

Permanent Bonuses

+4 Qi total
+1 Health Box
-During Cultivation roll again for each 1.

You have to unequip it to learn a new one.

At least currently we only have one slot for a "cultivation" art.

1. You'll keep it equipped until you get the first level, yes.
2. No, unequipped arts do not advance
3. Spoilers EPC is a higher quality art though. AS is a qualifer for the sects higher arts though.

Prettty much, theres not really a personal connection there yet. Also sadly a lack exposed and glorious abs, but such is the misfortune of propriety..

*Squints*

When big buddy stopped the spear, was it by grabbing the spear?

When he sucker punch pretty face, should he have manage to basically confiscated that spear and it is now loot?

@yrsillar, so I noticed that in Elder Zhou's test we got advancement for Zephyr's breath, but in neither the Argent Vent events or this one did we get anything for Arts. Is this because of corrections on mechanics? Also, I am surprised at the lack of advancement on stealth.

Hmm, it's been two hours, and I know what I want out of the next week.

[X] Plan Housesitting Pretty
[X] Two Red Stones.
-[X] Look into how Su Ling and Li Suyin are doing and cultivate at the vent
--[X] Give Su Ling the Lotus Root Pin and Li Suyin the Skirmisher's Anklets. They aren't gifts, they're just paying them for all the help they've given us - we wouldn't have claimed the arive pass without their support.
--[X] Offer Su Ling the Qi Foundation pills in trade - she hunts beast cores for Li Suyin. For the next two weeks she can hunt them for us too.
--[X] Spiritual
-[X] Go House hunting with Bai Meizhen
-[X] Talk to Han Jian see if he has any advice about the current 'political' situation
-[X] Breakthrough to Yellow if at peak red, silver otherwise
--[X] Finish Breakthrough if first roll succeeded. If we failed, spend some time with Gu Xiulan try to work out what has her so bothered by Li Suyin.

[X] Plan With All the Strength of a Raging Fire
[X] Resources used
---[X] Two Red Spirit Stones, Argent Accumulation pill, Qi Foundation Pill
[X] Look into how Su Ling and Li Suyin are doing and cultivate at the vent
---[X] Spiritual
---[X] Give your gifts to them, they deserve it
[X] Go House hunting with Bai Meizhen
---[X] Talk about the politics of the last battle
[X] Breakthrough Yellow
[X] Breakthrough Yellow
---[X] If not Peak Red, cultivate spiritual
[X] Cultivate on your own
---[X] Argent Soul

The goal of this plan is to get ready to break through into silver next week, as well as joining Han Jian's group and Li Suyin and Su Ling at the Argent vent next week. In the meantime, we make sure that Li Suyin is doing ok, we also try to get the strength needed by breaking through to yellow, and we spend the last turn we can with Qi foundation pill on spiking the successes needed for Argent soul up.

-[] Spiritual Cultivation
-[] If meeting with Gu Xiulan goes well, confer with Su Ling and Li Suyin if they feel comfortable about sharing the information about the Vent with Han Jian's group. If they are, tell them about it.
[] Go House hunting with Bai Meizhen
[] Breakthrough to Yellow
[] Breakthrough to Yellow x2
-[] If we don't reach Peak Red, Breakthrough to Silver.

This would be my preliminary plan anyway. We're near guaranteed to reach Peak Red this turn and we know we can reach it, then breakthrough on the same turn, and I value Yellow more than Silver as I believe it gives us the opportunity to unlock an additional action. It also allows us to bind a spirit if we go that way, or look into EPC.

The social actions are focused on our closest friends, and to try and bind them tighter together so we can enable them to all use the Vent as it's a phenomenal resource, and Han Jian's group has been very helpful to us and would likely aid us in the future. Plus now with both Gu Xuilan and Han Jian pushing for friendliness (due to them both being our labeled as our friends) I feel pretty confident in it being a success given their social abilities and the influence they wield over their group. Or at least, ensuring minimal animosity. Plus as I've previously mentioned, there's no reason for Suyin/Su Ling/Meizhen have to cultivate at the Vent simultaneously with the other group so there is a way to minimize friction.

House hunting with Bai Meizhen to further that SL, because we're doing a breakthrough this turn which should be enlightening, and due to Ling Qi's previous homelessness meaning that a house is a precious thing to her. There are also likely mechanical benefits to picking a house with Meizhen, instead of purely fluff purposes.

Is there any reasons you are going Silver and not Yellow, given the latter plausibly gives an extra action for week 14 (if successful)?

We don't know if it will give us an extra action, and we know that we have the requirements to reach silver right now. However, I'm not dead set on it, and if people like my plan other than that, then I can change it in a heartbeat.

As for other reasons I choose Silver over yellow, Silver helps us run and our physical combat ability. Presumably, we would get more health from silver as well.

Also, thanks for pointing out the discrepancy in the description I provided. I meant to say "break into yellow next week" instead of silver, as hopefully, we break into silver this week. I've corrected it.

Other reason to choose yellow first: SCS needs both Yellow and Silver, while FVM only needs Yellow (though we aren't yet at a block there).
