Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

In fairness to Kang he was genuinely expecting his Beasts to buy him at least a few turns of set up time while distracting Meizhen for a big attack. His 'gank dhartiri' plan was just in this case, 'Make Meizhen bleed at least once' concede with honor.

She just wombo-comboed them with a massive spiritual attack made in unison with her terror spirit that left them paralyzed and helpless long enough for Cui and Meizhen to finish them with poisons.

He never really faced Meizhen since the Thunderdome huh?
Never realized her Absolute Terror field was that swole, so invested into physical resists.

I think it is more that he threw her Mom's death in her face.
And since time immemorial "Yo Momma" is always a fighting word.

Meizhen didn't even fight him. No big powerful attacks to prove his defense, no domain weapon, and even her spirits just stuck to taking out his spirits and then stood aside. She didn't even give a damn about his buffs, she just very very slowly whipped his armor off piece by piece, he got plenty of time to finish his buff cycle.

People are going to be making whipped dog remarks for the rest of the year.

For people asking recs of xianxia.

Coiling Dragon is a good intro to many Chinese webnovels but it IS NOT xianxia.

It is Xuanhuan. Hence the description - a vaguely western feeling.

Actual xianxia is celestial bureaucracy founded by assholes who were born before humans.

Closest to that is the niche of slow novels like Nightfall, Way of Choices,... and comedic stuff like Pursuing Immortality, My Disciple Died Yet Again,...

Most xianxia themed webnovels are "trashy" as it is an easy way for the authors to milk money out of the setup in China.

Like McDonald's but for novels.

As can be noted by reading between the lines... well, there are a lot of people on this thread who both think that xanxia in general are pretty terrible and have ideas about specific ones that are worth reading. It is entirely possible to think that they're lousy and also enjoy them at the same time.

Also, making a distinction between xianxia and xuanhuan is probably pointless for the Western audience. Essentially, xianxia just means 'Chinese-themed fantasy' in English.

If y'all are looking for some more unusual xianxia, I'd recommend "Peerless Dad". It's a full-colour manhwa with a lovable main character whose only objective in his life is taking care of his children. The problem is that he is only good at fighting and he needs to balance being there for his kids and getting enough money to provide for them. The surrounding cast also manages to avoid many of the typical pitfalls of traditional Xianxia.

I highly recommend it.

From what I understood "Peerless Dad" isn't a xianxia at all though ? It doesn't have the staples of xianxia like a cultivation system, godlike immortals running around, drugs unlocking superpowers etc...

It is a very good manhwa, it can maybe even be considered a wuxia but I don't think it come close to Xianxia at all ?

And yes I would rec it too for those who like wuxia setting.

it is fairly close given it has an ascension system and it somewhat shares it setting with Red Storm, with the latter beginning midway through peerless dad

I would dispute this. Since the MC trains only his physical potential rather than including ki, there are methods that we haven't seen yet that train the spiritual side. Also the MC is so clueless about martial artists, I wouldn't trust him at all about anything to do with them. We even have a scene where the character is elimimating their impurities and making their bath-water dark and another when a character had been meditating for so long, they looked like a statue. As for god-like individuals, I'd say that the Pope of the Demon Church resembles that quite a bit. I'll give you the point about the drugs, since the MC mainly seems to substitute those with proteins.

MC doesn't get involved in the Xianxia aspects, I believe. But it does possess many of the traits of one if you look at other high level people we've seen.

MC is just a really weird kind of bullshit who doesn't need the normal Xianxia methods of growth, and the story itself doesn't really focus much on that side of things. It's more about him being a really good, hard working father than going and punching out assholes.

Checked it out on your recommendation. That thing is fantastic.

Also, speaking as a dad, this was *clearly* written by someone who has been a dad. It's glorious.

Its not.

Peerless Dad is a Wuxia through and through with its themes and characters. Something like Ze Tian Ji is however a Xianxia, and it is the only one in the whole genre I consider worth reading.
I tried to get into that one (based on a recommendation, possibly yours) and just bounced off of the early bit. When does it start getting good? Alternately, what virtue do you see in it that is missing in the others?
