Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

I'm curious what Cultivation rank is when modern weaponry would be rendered useless against a Cultivator.

Like bullets bounce off the skin and nuclear warheads ruffle their hair while providing a nice tan.

Well, I guess it depends on the bullet and the nuke.

At the higher end of bullets, I would guess that Cyan would be where no bullet could possibly affect you. We know that Zeqing's body is a blizzard that covers an area, and I don't care how many bullets you are firing, you are not hurting a blizzard. On the contrary, a nuke, even a small one, would probably cause enough heat and weather disturbance to destroy a small blizzard.

Higher up, like indigo, violet, prism, and white would probably deal with nukes better. I would imagine that not even a white though would be able to survive a high-end nuke unscathed if the Purifying Sun is anything to go by.

However, should one become an ascended spirit, then you've transcended reality and nukes would be entirely inconsequential for you.

Actually since mechanics are going away after the tournament, doesn't that mean that all omake points are worthless after that? Or maybe there will still be a stat system but conflict resolution will be narrative?

I get that Ling Qi is new at this whole cultivation business and that the narration didn't see fit to explicitly mention it, but I'm reasonably certain one of the first lessons Elde Su gave was that the correct response to finding someone with an unusual ability is to murder them so you can cultivate them into a pill or talisman and gain their powers.
Especially with barbarians who are not even people.
That's like super basic.
On the other hand, she doesn't want to escalate to some kind of blood feud with Lung's clan head over some minor tussle. Best to just take some kind of talisman and be gracious in victory.

On a separate note, I feel like the culture clash would be better the fewer cultivators cross over.

I refuse to go to any quest discord, so some sacrifice will have to relay what why FVM needs omake points.

(Also, considering that Ling Qi doesn't think of anyone not from the Empire to be a person, at the very least the first few encounters she has will be rather brutal, until she decides that cities=something like civilization. And she doesn't speak English, though she could probably learn real fast. So in typical Worm crossover fashion, Ling Qi is more likely to be a villain.)

There's... A very large spectrum between bullets and nukes. Hell, there's a huge spectrum inside "bullets". But if consider "ballets" something up to a 20mm bolt action... Probably high end green? Maybe less, actually.

It's hard to judge because, for example, a .50 BMG doesn't splinter a boulder, hell, it barely chips it. Meanwhile, Ling Qi can literally cut through those when swording ain't even her thing, while she was under Cai's buff.

OTOH, heat and acid probably work much better than kinetic energy. And the humble traditional RPG is highly-pressurized molten metal that is so hot, the sheer pressure from it can kill a tank crew, and I don't believe that's the kind of thing greens can survive.

Then there are cannons and proper rockets.

From an earlier training montage we know that Su Ling can split a boulder and that Ling Qi can pretty much let Su Ling whale on her indefinitely to no ill effect.

Also, another thought re: the mercy shown to Lung. If memory serves he started that fight with his shirt off...

Well then. I've been crossed with Worm, not sure how to feel about that.

Nice amusing work @FixerUpper. I'll apply those points. Sorry for the delay in any case guys. Got a lot of mechanical stuff going on in this update.

At risk of getting sucked into vs. nonsense, the answer to the question about bullets and such... Ling Qi is already at a level where you'd probably need anti armor guns to do any harm, assuming she stands still and lets you shoot her, a white cultivator could replicate Nappa's Best Day Ever without much issue or effort.

Anyway update is in the works, sorry for the delays. Lot's mechanical stuff going on in this update and I had some unannounced visitors yesterday cutting into my writing time.

I'm not sure about that. With their hopes for Ling Qi taken away, I think the Sect is likely eyeing Ji Rong for someone who can take the Inner->Core->Elder path.

Now, that's if they think they can temper his personality into something appropriate.

They don't need more elders.

They need people to take administration jobs. It's why they got a funding cut.

Neither Ling Qi or Ji Rong are particularly good for that. I don't think they would refuse a new elder candidate, but what they are after right now is someone who will go to the capitol and take up an administration job.

Basically, they want more Xuan Shi's.

I guess I should have said Inner->Core->Elite military unit/ministry, as that will get them more funding.

Ji Rong will definitely be a top tier door kicker if all goes well for him the next few years.

What? no.

Someone that's going to be an Elder isn't going to do nothing before being an Elder. That's like 200 years away. First they will lead armies for the empire or they will be sent to court and do things, and so on. While it's technically possible for someone going the Elder route to stay and work for the sect all his time before being an Elder, they would still be given high ranked job for the Empire, and as such help the sect get more money.

Both the inner sect tournament and the inter-sect tournament are ways the sect has to prove they deserve more funding.

I do wonder, are you guys not shooting for the top of the tournament?

Because Ling Qi could certainly take any of the three 'monsters', I think. No easy fights, of course, but in terms of raw stats, she is great.

I am shooting for that but right now there is very little we can do to change the course of our training. Our training is already pretty breakneck. Do you have ideas for getting farther, because I would love to go faster and be better for the tourney.

No. Our chances of defeating any of the monsters, much less more than one of them, start at abysmal and go down from there. Obviously we will do out best in all the fights, but I fully expect that the first time we go up against a monster, we will be knocked out. I'd be more than satisfied if we could beat Ji Rong / Kang Zihao / Chu Song before that point to guarantee our Inner-Sect spot.

We still don't know how we really stack up against Cai because we were both holding back in our sparring contest, but I'm pretty sure we get wrecked by both Bai and Sun.

I mean, we can put up a fight, but their Spirit(s) will beat ours and their sword will beat ours and then it's 3-5 on 1.

I agree, but an important point is that the Sect, and others, will be watching. Ling Qi probably has the potential (if not the guarantee) to last long enough to be noticed. Therefore, training to fight them may be a good idea even if we literally have no chance to win.

(I will admit a pipe dream where Ling Qi and Meizhen are the final two... but this isn't a self-insert story. The PC won't manage to succeed against any/all odds just by virtue of being the PC. That's why this story is a standout among xianxia. And as much as I like Meizhen, and want her to win, she is not the most dangerous opponent out there.)

Truthfully, I put Ling Qi's chances of beating one of the three monsters at around 20%.
They would need to do poorly, and Ling Qi quite well to win.

If it's as high as 20%, it's definitely worth striving for... especially with the Storyteller combat system, which both allows a high degree of randomness and amplifies early advantages. The net effect of that is that a 20% chance can become 30% from a smaller amount of improvement (proportionate to overall power) than a linear system like d20 or d100 would need.

The monsters will probably have all sorts of bullshit one-shot gear that they can pull out if they need it, like Meizhen's siegebreaker rod or enough water to create a small lake in the arena etc. There's no way we're going to be able to match that.

But if we can force them to pull that sort of stuff out, considering how impressive that will be for spectators it's practically a win in itself.

Don't think we will be able too, but the better we do the better we look, which is really big for us, both as a new Baroness and Cai's Retainer.

Edit:

@yrsillar also, could I put the 4 points from 2 omakes into FVM? The Discord Hivemind is unstoppable :p
