With CRX backing us we could also set our mother up in the provincial capital, under the protection of the ducal house. Anyone who can get at her there could easily hit her in the sect village.

I actually like this better than my Open Door.

She might be solidly in, or she might not, we don't know. We do know, however, that every little bit helps her to edge out Kang Zihao. Knocking Kang out of the top eighth is something we'd want even if it weren't our friend who was benefitting.
But what do you think her chances of getting in are? I'd put it at maybe 30-40%, given that neither she more Han Jian are among the strongest 8 disciples. I expect that a single white room session might increase that by 1%, say from 30-31%
The white room session for Su Ling will increase her chance of placing top eight in the tournament from 0% to 0%.
You might argue that's it's not about optimization, but about friendship, but we're hanging out with her regardless, and giving her something valuable, AC and making her feel like she earned it fairly. It's not like we're ignoring the foxgirl m.

If people are really against Xiulan having white room this week, Terrifying Lan-lan could still get all of its current minors with Su Ling in the white room I think.
Switch Su Ling to white room with her minor attached, have Suyin's minor attached to vent training TRF, and then snag the Xiulan minor as the third unattached. We've attached Suyin to vent a lot in the past, so I think it would be legal? Seems more likely than the Sixiang/Zeqing attachment to me at least. Just a possibility if that's something that a lot of voters for Lan-lan don't care about since it seems to be one of the more controversial points about the plan.

True, on the other hand, Su Ling is the only friend we didn't take in yet. Meizhen, having her own access, doesn't count.
I guess, out of the three friends who were options, she's the only one left out. But I opposed bringing Suyin in as well.

Pretty sure she said she had good hopes of reaching Green within a year (so likely sometime after the tournament). Admittedly the White Room will play a part in getting her there quicker, and we don't know how concerned she is with her foundation so there is a higher chance of her making it before the tournament.
Giving SuSu one go at the White Room each isn't the end of the world. I highly doubt Xiulan missing out on two sessions there will be enough to significantly affect her chances of getting in, unless they occur at a particularly difficult bottleneck for her.
I didn't say anything about Ling Qi seeing it as charity, I said that Su Ling will see it as charity. The girl isn't stupid, if we suddenly pay a bunch more than we negotiated and don't ask for anything from her end she isn't going to think to herself "oh I guess she just thought the pill was way more valuable this week!" We already negotiated a price, if we want to give her more stuff she will need to come up with something to balance the scales, because that is how she prefers to live life.
It's not the end of the world, but it's a marginal impact v no impact.

I've wanted to take this mission since it showed up, though I think we'd be better off swapping the minors around so Suyin-Manual I'd attached to it in case it's a Black Loam Gargant. Could get bonuses to fighting it or bonuses to manual research if it is.

Regarding Cai vs Sect I'd see Qi Ling's core values as the most important: Freedom and friends.
Working for Cai:
- Huge immediate hit to her freedom.
- Loses status as independent cultivator.
- Long-term responsibilities and dependence.
- High-powered control-freak as the boss of our boss (i.e. her mom).
+ Easy connection to Meizhen.
+ Befriending Cai and keeping her human.
? Local responsibilities might keep us from visiting other friends.
Staying in the Sect:
+ Stay with any remaining sect-friends another year.
+ Staying with spirit-friends.
+ Remain independent noble.
+ Fastest road to personal power (Power = Freedom)
+ Can eventually leave to become fully independent.
- 8 years of service
- Have to find way to stay in contact with friends.
If I had to vote right now, I'd choose the Sect. Mostly, because I think it is the best choice long-term, even if the quest might never get that far. I'm not entirely sure, if all these points are true, though.

I think you are greatly underselling the massive value that information has. With Cai there will be a limited amount of information available to us. I greatly value the information over the material.
If I read this correctly at the peak green we can attach 11 arts.
It make sense to learn arts which we are likely to attach.
IMO arts we can learn can be divided into categories
Core defensive arts - SCS, TRF
Core Music arts - FVM, FSS
May be core arts with, they elements would be hard to support with talismans - AM, PoLR
Others
Before we start to learn other arts or get new art we could do action

It wouldn't be the first huge thing I missed during my read-through, but why must we become a vassal and who is Cai Shenhua? From what I remember reading no one forces new clans to become vassals, most that don't just die out within due to various reasons.

I'm not entirely certain why people are so adamant about bringing in Su Ling. I'm kinda unenthused over the idea because as far as I can tell, Su Ling doesn't want it. Su Ling has no interest in the White Room. Su Ling has no interest in trying to get into the top 8 like Ling Qi, or even being much of a production specialist like Suyin. She's perfectly fine with being in the Outer Sect forever. Maybe she wants to get strong enough to face her mother, but she's got not specific time limit on that.
I want to keep giving Xiulan White Room time because as far as I can tell, White Room helps Xiulan far more, and Su Ling barely at all in terms of achieving their respective goals.

Word of God is that the ministry of integrity starts asking pointed questions if you stay unattached to long. So you either need to leave to empire to avoid them or join a sect or become a vassal before kill teams are sent.
Xiulan or Li Suvin.
Also we can send Su Ling to Han Jian, he is wealthy and would profit immensely from Silverbood Pill, also alliance with Han Jian/Fang would help her next year.

Paths divergence happens for the biggest part after the 8(?) years of military service. Though it could be argued that the military service might happen in different locations depending the path chosen, whether or not a specific path offers the opportunity to spent those years with any specific friend is unknown, though i would guess it would happen only if they chose the same path, like Gangu following CRX.
Anyway, regardless of the path chosen we still remain in teh Sect for an other year and then are moved to <random place(s)> to serve in the military forces for 8(?) years.
I'll deconstruct the other points after diner...

By the by...why the lung meridian? I think leg would be more useful. AE is, after all, not really very core, even if it's cool, so having the leg meridians for PLR+SCS is more important than having the lung meridians for PLR+AE.
