Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

If parts of Ling Qi's self description seemed contradictory or a little incoherant, keep in mind that she was trying to articulte things to herself as much as she was explaining it to Cai.
Considering her tendency to ignore difficult situations/truths, ''in the middle of a relevant conversation' is one of the most likely times for Ling Qi to actually try and figure things out (due to outward pressure/stimuli).

Out of the list of self criticisms LQ made, I felt that one the least. Sure, we're her only friend. Would she have any friends if not for us? Surely we can't take the blame for that. Maybe LQ feels some possessiveness, but she's never monopolized Lan Lan in deed.

I mean, I'm not opposed to helping her meet people, but she needs to figure out how alone she wants to be and how much she wants to try to make friends herself. At best we can only guide her a tiny bit.

The way I read that was Ling Qi being happy Lan Lan is such a cactus and is only friends with her rather than Ling Qi doing anything to foster that. If anything Ling Qi has tried to get her to get over Han Jian and move on for her own sanity

That was great. Worth all the trouble. :)

"It's because caring is hard. Su Ling calls me an airhead sometimes, that I miss things easily, and she's right."

...

"Because I don't care, not really," Ling Qi replied angrily. This… wasn't something she had articulated before, something she spoke of, but it clung to the edges of her understanding all the same. "I have to work to care, I have to focus, and stay focused, or I just… move on," she continued, frustrated.

I think this is only the second time I've seen the nature of questers themselves, like the inconstancy of the hive mind, actually incorporated into a quest. Nice.

That update was even better than I expected, and I was expecting a good update. @yrsillar has had a pretty good track record.

As for the encouragement to start up a quest anyways, thank you for those words. I think I'll do it after all. I've already been doing a lot of planning.

(As a tangent, I'm a she, since at least one person was unclear on that.)

I think you're interpreting Ling Qi's self-criticism in the wrong direction.

Ling Qi is reflecting on how her relationships resonate with Zeqing's nature: binding her friends close, having herself as their (only) means of emotional support. That's why Ling Qi mentioned Suyin's hero worship and Meizhan's crush in the same breath -- it's not that Ling Qi likes that Xiulan has no other friends, it's that Ling Qi likes that being Xiulan's only friend. It's the satisfaction of having so much influence on them*, that Ling Qi criticizes, rather than anything to do with her friends.

...I suppose the best (most positive) way to put it is that Ling Qi likes that -- from the perspective of Suyin, Meizhan, and Xiulan -- their relationship with Ling Qi is at 4 dots?

*Ling Qi is probably only verbalizing her thoughts now because of the confluence of an extended introspection session, thinking about Fu Xiang and his words about manipulating the perspective of others, and Cai Renxiang's words about caring about others. If we get minors to speak with Meizhan and/or Suyin to finalize those relationships tomorrow, I will laugh and laugh. (The idea behind this week's winning plan was to cut down on minors! :D)

Yeah, I get that, but my point is: that's not a crime, and what results from it is hardly being selfish. If Ling Qi visibly got jealous beyond just slight pangs (refer to Meizhen hanging with Renxiang, which she successfully got over without incident) then I might call it a flaw. As it stands? No, not at all. It's the result of being close, not the cause, and other than the recrimination, LQ is treating it just fine.

I think Dragon is more important than Zequing, especially if we want to share with Meizhen. Zequing boosts us, the vale boosts us, Meizhen and Zhengui.

Gosh though, just re-reading that post again, and it was just so good.

I love the character development moments in this story.

We made a commitment to Zeqing, though, while the Dragon thing is just an idea we have. Not visiting Zeqing in favor of going to the dragon's vale will have a bearing on our reputation with the spirit ladies who take tea together.

We said we didn't object to Hanyi joining us. We never committed to visiting every week, we just have that available as an option now.
We didn't carve it in stone but she said she would make time for weekly sessions and our body language said that that was something we want. She has a reasonable expectation of us showing up weekly; the longer we go without doing that, the more it looks and feels like a slight. And it is a slight to value a chance at the dragon's vale more than our relationship with Zeqing.

I agree. If we genuinely don't have time thanks to our breakthrough or work on our cultivation art, I'd be okay pushing the Zeqing action back. But to go meet her friend's kid instead? Seems less than ideal.

We're breaking through now. There isn't a reasonable expectation that we even leave the house, let alone show up for lessons.
Right, and that's fine. It's specifically the dragon's vale that I don't think we should do, since it's another spirit and another territory that we'd be prioritizing and she'd probably hear about it. Us only interacting with mortals the whole week while we work to breakthrough, while not my preference, shouldn't cause any problems with Zeqing.

E: Also, please consider my statements in full rather than cherry picking out a single line and stripping it of context.

But yeah, passing up SnowMom's stuff for a fellow Spirit's son is potentially problematic. Do him if we manage to miracle out a breakthrough in two actions, but otherwise, our priority should probably be SnowMom/EPC/Dragon

I'm scared if we don't diplomacy the dragon someone else will... (looks at ji rong) it just makes too much sense narrative wise ...

Mortals have nothing to do with this.

Your argument was based on a premise. I simply addressed your premise directly. There is no commitment. There is no reasonable expectation.

Any argument of the form "Because A, we must do B" can be countered by showing that A is false. That's not cherry picking.

So... A couple thoughts about next week's actions.

For majors, there is too much to do and not enough time to do it.

My personal brainchild was to do 3 physical breakthrough actions; 1 Physical cultivation action; 1 EPC action.

Another possibility I thought of was to do 3 physical breakthrough actions (PBA); 1 physical cultivation action, Hire a tutor for 2 EPC actions (which would finish up EPC a week earlier)

A similar possibility was to do 3 PBA; 1 Physical cultivation, visit Snow mom.

Or 3 PBA; 1 physical cultivation, do Dragon site

The next iterations would be to do closed door cultivation and add either an EPC action, Snow Mom action, or Dragon action to the other possibilities.

A theme with these plans that my brain is spewing out is 3 physical Breakthrough actions and 1 physical cultivation. This should give us about as good of a chance to get 2 successes as 4 Breakthrough actions, but still give the flexibility of attaching minors to it. I really want Bronze.

When can we get a similcrum so we can double up our socials sheesh! I want to hang out with the dragon if only so we can we hear about dragon mom bitching to her friends about some mortal hussy who her foolish son is too good. Then the ensuing Cabal of Mom's interrogation of Ling Qi on the nature of ther relationship

Meanwhile Gu Tai is doing crunches and glaring at a statue of a dragon

Here is what my plan for next week would look like:
-[] Closed Door Cultivation (+1 MAJOR, -2 minors)
-[] When breaking through, if we fail a roll recover in the White Room with Zeqing.
-[] (MAJOR) Breakthrough x1
-[] (MAJOR) Breakthrough x2
-[] (MAJOR) Breakthrough x3 / FSS with Xiulan
-[] (MAJOR) Breakthrough x4 / Dragon Site
-[] (MAJOR) Cultivate EPC
--[] (attached minor) Check up on Su Ling and the Ma Sisters
-[] (MAJOR) Take a Job
--[] (attached minor) ???
-[] (minor) Market

The idea here is that we try our best to get BOTH Bronze and EPC5 complete this week. If we are lucky and our breakthrough goes well, we will also be able to do the dragon action and the Zeqing training.

This does require closed-door cultivation, which is a pain, but probably an acceptable cost for getting EPC up one turn early.

I'd rather push back EPC in favor of FSS training this week. Also, let's see if yrsillar allows my idea of a conditional closed door week before we make plans to that effect, since that will change how plans are made.
