Yes, definitely this. You can ascend, but that's beyond the scope of the quest. The infinite treadmill is probably the thing I like least about Xianxia. Explore your worlds and cultures more instead of just jumping to a new one every hundred chapters dammit.
On that note, gonna do the worldbuilding interlude next. I hope you don't mind, but I'm just going to select the 'Rise of the Sage Emperor' option. Reading journey to the west made me want to try my hand at that kinda mythic epic kinda thing.

Th offer is nothing but good. What isn't so good is the fact that we're forced to answer her as soon as we breakthrough. Granted, Cai could be understanding if we wanted to do some service on our own before we go making commitments like that, but we don't know if that's an option.

They are pressing her significantly less. Green is adulthood for nobles (Bai Meizhen's hair). With two or three years within that realm, Ling Qi will be significantly more able to judge.
Elimination of kinetic energy (motion) is an effect of a potential entropy field, though. Shit slows and stops as momentum and outside forces are stripped away as a stilling effect.

Well, are we any worse off than if she had never made the offer? Gu Tai isn't going to wait around forever either, that doesn't make his offer a trap.

If you can attach a minor to it, that'd probably be even better than a water/darkness cultivation action with the pool - 25 successes instead of a quarter of a dicepool's worth.

So, we're getting our safecracking tools, and I still would like to clear that before we breakthrough to minimize the chances of complications (And with Yan Renshu impoverished, we have a very small window of opportunity to do this kind of thing and not necessarily be the prime suspect). What option do you guys think I can drop for major actions to make room for it?
Because that's the hard part here. The most 'Affordable' one is the Argent Vent, but that's purely because it's neither breakthrough nor has a minor attached to it.

I'll be honest I somewhat agree with tricholysis, but I think it's also a problem endemic to the Empire's culture.
I mean if we really look at the Gu's offer it's still sprinting to grab up a new cultivator virtually as soon as possible. Including literally binding them to your house (and a branch house), it just has a much more comfortable timeperiod for finalising the contract. And that may be partly down to Xiulan knowing us better and advising her house not to start come on too strong (which Tai partly screwed by running in while Xiulan was trying to prep Ling Qi for the offer she was going to get).
I think this is linked to an endemic problem that cultivators and nobles have where someone is either for them or against them, with a very small window of 'unaligned potential resource'.
Uncomfortable as it is, snapping up really talented commoners, whilst obviously mostly benificial to their patron/new house etc can also be a boon for the commoner. As we were reminded this very update, the nobilities attitude toward talented commoners is often that of naked bandits, torture and murder included. Snapping up the talented ones early also means that talent is likely to hang around long enough to get close to their potential.
Would it be possible to replace Li suyin minor with Zhengui?

Well, the AC cultivation one would be simple enough. The Cull Worms job is also possible, but you'd have to switch out the Zhengui minor for either the Puzzle Box (that's about the only one that might be able to be attached) or the Su Ling + Ma sisters one and attach that to the AC cultivation action.

No, because that is an attached minor and it wouldn't make sense to attach Zhengui to it narratively. Zhengui needs to be attacked to an action where we are moving around hunting things, not sitting still and meditating.

While I appreciate the vote of confidence, I haven't officially made that my plan yet, and I am concerned enough about Yan Renshu that I am considering switching one of the training actions to go look for him.
Would still attach the Zhengui hunting minor though, as we could go hunting in the area we are searching for him, looking for clues and stuff and clearing out the spirit beasts in the area.
Anyway, I do have some concerns about the leading plans.
@PrimalShadow I believe you should specify which aspect you are trying to breakthrough with the actions, either spiritual or physical. That way you will have a clear purpose for the catch-up action in being either physical or spiritual.
@Alectai Apologies if I am wrong, but I believe Plan "Last Stop Before Breakthrough" is yours. I'm not sure if you intended this, but can you explain your reasoning behind the actions you choose and the number of them. Because if I'm reading this right that plan has a 46% chance to not move us towards breakthrough goals, which would not allow us to work on arts based on the formatting, and thus has an almost 50% chance to only gain us sect points and do minors.

Why can't Gu Tai get the same chance to make his offer more appealing, show that he's 'on the level', etc.? I've asked this question a billion times and the answer is usually 'Cai was first'. So now Ling Qi hasn't even taken a single action towards exploring her options past Cai, just because Cai is more aggressive with a shorter time window. Not even thinking about getting a deferment from Cai until the end of the year, because people want green stones now or whatever. Is that an attitude that fits Ling Qi? Taking the first option and assuming that it's the best, instead of even trying to learn if it actually is the best?

It's already had to wait for a month. The opportunity isn't going to remain active forever. The previous excuse was "Oh we don't have our larceny tools so we don't dare do it", but we've got them now.
+1 success isn't going to be the difference between success and failure at this point.
