Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

I like this; it was a fun read.

The only thing that bugs me is way the Talent boost (capital T) was written. The post made it sound like Fan Yu magically got a Talent boost in addition to being sent back in time, which is a bit weird and unnecessary.

It makes sense to say that Fan Yu is progressing faster due to retreading his steps, but if that is what you want to say, I'd just refer to cultivation speed instead of talent.

Thanks for the compliments, it's mostly intended to just be a fun romp.

Yes, the Talent increase was intentional, so Fan Yu now boasts the prodigous talent of ... 4.5 (instead of talent 3 which he has in my headcanon)

The reason for the talent increase would hypothetically be from his older mind overlapping mostly with his younger mind, but buffing it up a bit, since there's still a difference between a 31 year old cultivator peak green and his 14 y.o. self early/mid red.

Also, if this were a quest, Fan Yu would have a bonus to cultivating the arts he knew in his previous life up to the level he himself had mastered them(the bonus would be that of a inner sect teacher tutoring - think Ruan Shen)

That said, my intent wasn't to allow powerwanking. Sorry to everyone who started having HP/Naruto edgy timetravel flashbacks.

Meizhen, Sun Liling, Reixang, Ling Qi, Ji Rong, Xuan Shi all have greater talent. Possibly Kang Zihao, Guangli, Suyin, as well.
Not to mention better starting position for most of them. They would simply stomp Fan Yu at this moment of time.

Fan Yu's greatest advantages are in information and social-fu. He is an adult, surrounded by children, and trained in politics and diplomacy, by his clan which have strong earth leanings, which means they tend to work with community.

My feelings would be that he just thinks he's increased in talent. When he actually gets into green and starts going over new ground, he'll discover that no, he actually hasn't.

So sad :p

Multiple time-travelers from alternate timelines seem like a recipe for much laughter to be had.
Team SueSue needs to happen !
Next, we have Sun Liling coming to rescue her old lifelong friend Ling Qi from the evil snake's clutches.
Oh, and Han Jian doesn't understand why Ji Rong is suddenly taking a much... closer interest in him.

Alright, so our shiny new breakthrough pills definitely encourage us to go all in for 1 week there. I've run up some simulations of how this could go, and what we can expect, assuming we have 6 actions to spend.

Basically, I've examined two strategies here. In strategy 1, we roll Green until we fail, using our reroll if needed. Once we've failed, we switch to Bronze, and roll that until failure. After that, we basically look at things, check which of them is closer to completion (probably green), and try to recover and try again.
If we start with one success on each, how much does the medicine help if we try to do a dedicated breakthrough week? Since the meds only kick in on second and third rolls I would assume this lets us get the most out of them.

Besides the efficiency point, it would also be sweet to knock out both third realm breakthroughs in the same week. Talk about bumping up that reputation...

Right now all i can think of is a detective story involving Zhen and Cui trying to figure out who's been stealing beast cores from their masters without any trace of entering or leaving the building or their partners even noticing, working through a list of suspects all over the sect without any of the cultivators being aware.

Then it just turns out Gui is a glutton and has been taking snacks whilst Zhen is asleep, Ling and Best Snek are just too amused to do anything about it.

I think Ling would be proud. Zhengui managed to steal from himself.

Instead of a Talent increase, I would just have him know dozens of cultivation arts availible to a Green that aids in Low Talent cultivation, having a couple give perm effects.

Cultivation arts have diminishing effects the more you get them, assuming they don't just conflict and mess you up. So if you learn, say, three different fire cultivation art, they overlap rather than stack after a while.

Argent cultivation arts are in part designed to work in addition to a family cultivation art, but usually cultivators at most learn 3 different ones.

The wording is awkward, but the second/third/fourth roll part is referring to yellow/green/cyan (or maybe green/cyan/indigo) realms, not the rolls made during a week.

Even with just three and no access to AG since he never got to Inner, having Argent Soul, a family art,and a third art all mastered has got to provide incredible dividends compared to just starting with half a family art while trying to learn Argent Soul.

As an aside, I assume most Noble Cultivation Arts buff pills or stone guzzling, since wealth is their primary advantage over the rare high Talent commoner.

Interesting. So the medicine is better than I thought. It still seems like we'd be better off trading away some of it if possible, just because it's so much more valuable for other people.

I'm really curious what that budget looks like. I'd love to see what Han Jian and Gu Xiulan's weekly expenditures have been.

How do we know what the wording means? Is this something yrsillar has clarified on discord?

+1 on using the super pills on us.

Let's just make sure we make everything posible to get the best results on the breakthrough,
let's not taunt murphy by selling those pills saying we don't need them.
I can already see half our rolls ending up being from 56 to 60 if we don't use those pills.

Edit: Corrected numbers, thanks Ompa...
Btw going to sleep, late night posting isn't good for your brain.

I'd rather save those until cyan personally, since that's an even bigger boost to go from 45 to 50, though the argument can be made we'd be able to find something similar by then. Still, better to have what you have now rather than plan around getting something similar in the future.....
