Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

The eight huge shadowless formation globes are already pretty huge when you consider they've been put in place to defend against a single person. I very much doubt they filled the Fortress with globes in every room and couridor
I mean, there's a pretty clear division among the supporters of Cai and Sun. Cai has all the shadowy Darkness cultivators (Ling, Huang, maybe Bai and maybe Xuan have an incidental Darkness art) and Sun has Ji Rong, Kang Zihao, and Chu Song, all of which are the Heaven cultivators of the year other than GF and Cai. (Yan Renshu is maybe there, maybe on his own...)

Keep in mind Ling Qi's stealth and escape abilities are extremely potent. We were capable of outrunning our own arrow after all, so why not pull a similar stunt? Sun Liling already knows that Ling Qi is gonna try to sneak in, hence the anti-Ling Qi lanterns, so why not pull something no one would expect? We don't have to be there long, just get in, take a look around, and then get out.
My problem there is I don't believe we'll have time to get a real look, and that they won't change things if they know we got in.

Ossuary Scout action is almost certain to get information- but lesser information.

Subterfuge is likely to get decent information, but means not stealing stuff and no EPC successes. It also has risks of not being able to get in, and if we get discovered inside might need us to run away and tell them what happened.

Stealth means EPC successes and chance to steal stuff, but is the hardest to get in.

Anybody do the math on how much time our latest drugs will save us? My guesstimate is a week or so. At a moment when time is at a premium I'd be inclined to use it now instead of waiting for Cyan. We'll probably have a chance to get something similar in the next couple years.

Alternatively... I was already hoping we could meet with our "business associate" not!Kabuto to see if he knows anything about a fourth Argent Art. Dangling one of these potions in front of him ought to be enough to commission him to handle the acquisition of the technique slip.

We can't outrun our arrows. We can almost catch up with one arrow if we run at full speed while shooting.

[] Disguise herself and enter through the front door. No need to play with walls and traps
[] To aim for one of the small but impossible to remove gaps in guard coverage and sneak in.
[] To remain outside and slip a scout onto returning disciples, with orders to return in an hour. At least one would make it out, surely?
I can't help but feel all of these are horrible ideas.

The thing about keeping either of these for a later breakthrough attempt is that it will be a long time from now before we attempt Cyan, much less anything else. And by "long time" I mean both in-character and out-of-character. For one thing the potions might go bad by then. Moreover we will actually be on a different game system at that point. While I doubt that yrsillar would screw us over and have either potion be worthless by then, who knows if they will be more or less useful then they are now.
In that case, we should strongly consider trading it to Xuan Shi / Gan Guali / Han Jian. Assuming they have a talent of ~4, it represents something like 2.5x as much value for them than for us. Surely they have some of their own rare pills that they would be willing to trade for it?

Realistically speaking, we aren't going to get to Cyan before 3 IRL years or so. That's meta, but.... Also, I have high hope that by that time we find other things.

If there is a fourth combat argent art, I am really hoping for it to be offensive spiritual art. We really need one.

Doing the mission was a horrible idea. The last one is the closest we have to admitting it and not getting caught up with sunk costs.

And if we need to give Cai actionable intelligence, the fact that the fortress seems to have been specifically designed to be Ling Qi proof should count

Even in daylight we've got pretty good stealth, and we have a reroll from EPC. Ling Qi wouldn't consder it if she didn't think she had a good shot.

Also, the hard part is getting in. If we fail to get in we can run away, and between our speed, initiative and SCS I doubt they could stop us. And once we are in security won't be as tight, and worst comes to worst if we need to get out we could shoot out some of the orbs, that should give us some shadows to work with.

If it succeeds, it will make sneaking in easier, as Ling Qi notes with her musings on "further intelligence".

Could we maybe make a zombie hawk, glue feathers and fake skin onto it, and then hide inside it in our darkness form? Then we could have it fly very far above the fort before it stops flying and just falls. If we stick an arrow out of the side of it, the guards would likely assume another of them shot and killed the bird already.

Then when we hit the ground, we'd be near the center of the fort and further from the orbs, so we could hopefully sneak more easily.

Getting caught is escapable, but is essentially mission failure as the reason we are here is to scout the defenses and activities. If they know we were sneaking around, they'll change up their patrol patterns and whatnot. Getting caught makes what we report to Cai far less useful.

Our bone constructs can't fly.
Also, our darkness form requires human-sized shadows. The insides of a hawk is unlikely to qualify.

Also a pretty clear warning from yrsillar I'd say. Dreams showed us that people can resist our techniques. Now he's again showing that people can dispel them as well.

We need to buff our spiritual techniques.

Anti-dispel is Resolve+Power+AM+TRF+Tech (Diapason/Dissonance/Elegy etc). Anti-dispel is a bit different than straight up buffing our spiritual attack.

If we want Anti-Dispel, we have to train Power and possibly get a specialized anti-dispel spiritual art.

Her finds were quite disappointing at first. The pouch seemed like it was full of junk. There was a clay jar for of polished and painted anklebones, a torn headband worked with elaborate embroidery and beads, the broken halves of an unusably tiny bow, and other such things. They were all burnt or bloodstained too. Ling Qi couldn't imagine why trash like this would be so well protected. They weren't even broken talismans as far as she could tell. The barbarian had probably been pretty unhinged, she supposed.
This actually annoyed me quite significantly. This sort of attitude should be indicative of a empathy 1 character, not an empathy 4 nearing 5 which is peak mortal ability; it particularly shouldn't be the case when the person in question kept a comparatively useless memento in her flute all that time she was on the streets instead of selling it and whom there was an decision point of what to do with the remains of it. I would expect that sort of attitude as mentioned to come from a low empathy wealthy character who had lived an stable life; not Ling Qi, thus for me it's reaching almost caricature levels of bad given I remember similar things being referenced in the past.

For the pills themselves, honestly using them seems like one of the worst things to do. Pills are invariably more valuable to lower talent characters given the bonuses are nearly always flat, so they provide less benefit to Ling Qi who has both high talent and would only use them for a tier 2 breakthrough as she'll both have more efficient actions and need to use less of them; than someone on low talent aiming for tier 3/4. Thus the wealth acquired could be far better spent elsewhere, when really all these pills are likely to do are save an action. When you consider the rarity of them, that's hilariously inefficient.

My preferred option would be to just keep them though, and study them. We've acquired a major pill furnace, are friends with both a pill maker and an aspiring healer, and as mentioned the pills are rare; so being able to acquire the recipes to recreate them seems like it would be much more valuable.

f we fail to get in we can run away, and between our speed, initiative and SCS I doubt they could stop us.
I think that is WILDLY optimistic.

If we fail, having the guards rise an alarm and attack us immediately is the BEST CASE scenario. In practice, I fear that they will just pretend to have missed us... and then spring the trap when we are deep in the fortress.

That actually is a good point, what's stopping us from standing on a cliff at max range, sniping the lanterns quickly, and then just running away? Unless they can teleport, they won't be able to catch us, and while those lanterns are tough, they probably aren't indestructible.

Actually:

@yrsillar Is sniping the lanterns a viable write-in?
You could do that. They're gonna respond though.
That seems like a good way to spend an hour every night. Pissing them off, keeping them awake and draining resources to make more globes every day. :D
Just need to pick random times and places to snipe from.
Do you not think they wouldn't have further anti Ling Qi measures inside?
No. Actually i don't think so. When making a defensive formation you mostly put the measures around the place you're going to use. For exemple, you put a giant wall a moat and a drawbride around a house(/castle), not in between each room of your house.
And even if they don't, there are a bunch of powerful cultivators there and getting out won't be as simple as a speed test.
All yellow tier people are non-issues in Ling Qi just wants to run. Heck, she ran away from a Green that was trapping her in a room in the heart of his own den! And that was before the latest speed bonus.
OK, so these make attempting to make all breakthroughs rolls in a single week even vaguely reasonable. These are amazing and I'm wondering why the shaman guy even had these things! He was planning on suiciding for his ritual, right?!
I know! Convenient, right ?

Father pill for AS Art ? I know some people don't want him to have AM as he's going to be competition very soon.

We should definitely think about trading it. I'm fairly unsure how that would work though.

I really doubt trying to study them would work - most likely it wouldn't do anything, but I think it would be far more likely that we would destroy the pills for no gain then to be able to recreate them.

People keep bringing this idea up, over and over and over. WHY? Where are people getting the idea that if we hand our friends a copy of a pill, they can reverse-engineer it to get the recipe? That's certainly not something that you can do in most xianxia, at least unless you are a really high level crafter.
