Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Wait what, vote's already locked? Damnit, that'll teach me to go to bed in order to read the update with a fresh mind... I need to ramp up that cultivation and grow beyond the need for such a pedestrian thing as sleeping!
"That idiot fiancee of mine took one too many blows to the head throwing himself in front of attacks for me," Xiulan replied, her lips twisting into a disdainful sneer. Her heart didn;t seem to be in the insult though. "As if I could not dodge myself," she grumbled.
TSUNDERE DETECTED, ALL HANDS TO SHIPPING STATIONS
"They won't do a thing," she bluffed again. He was only just into the late second stage of his physique, with his spirit lagging, and he was at least a year or two older. "Not for a crap talent like you," she said bluntly. "Are you an idiot?
And the biggest casualty of this night was a boy's self-esteem.

So, and obviously this will depend a lot on what happens with Cai etc., but who wants to go on a thieving spree sometime?

This "Brother Renshu" seems like an asshole. We should get him back.

The real question is, are they faster than we are.

Because if they're not, and it becomes a running battle, we'll inevitably win. Our ranged defense is stupidly good. While it would be expensive to take everyone down quickly, it would be extremely cheap to do so one by one.

The meteoric swarm + adrenaline rush is basically a one shot of "Remove half of our opponents from consideration for now". Exactly what you need to break an encirclement.
It's a bit harder than that: you can double your speed if you do nothing else than run in your turn, so a running battle means we are significantly slower than they are. The advantage of 'firing' would be for status effects or if all our group had stealth and so on.
They don't have to be, all they need to do is arrive back at around the same time we do. Xuilan and Yu are both Qi exhausted and it looks like we have exactly 1 rather weak restorative left. It'll be down to us to fight aside any opposition we meet.

Like, if by some coincidence we happen to see Liling and Renxiang fighting as soon as we get back to the outer sect, we're going to have to try pretty hard to end the fight before a truckload of enemy reinforcements crashes the fight. That would even be lucky actually, since Liliang seems to have a whole head of snake with body style command structure going on. If we got caught up in some secondary battle like finding Feng fighting Guangli or some melee involving a bunch of people, the cultivators encircling us would swing the fight way harder if they arrive before the battle is done.

So I'm just going to pray to RNG that we don't trip the alarm.
I'm pretty sure that the numbers are on Cai's side, just that the enforcers are everywhere, while Sun Liling's/insurrection is more concentrated. Being followed would suck, certainly, but more because it means good odds of being surrounded and beaten out before we can get to allies.

It's... well, it's a pity that we didn't do some kind of vote where "If you win the stealth test go to Cai if not to Yanmei", but OTOH going to Cai while much more risky also ends up giving more if it succeeds. I am personally hoping we meet Han Jian and Han Fang on the way trying to rescue Gu Xiulan/ Fan Yu. With the 6 of us (Heijin) taking care of 9 or so low-end disciples would be very easy even if Gu Xiulan/Fan Yu are exhausted. After all we know that Xiulan was kicking their butts easily even with a significant cultivation disadvantage.

Well, they are ready to deal with Han Jian/ Han Fang, but 'ready' doesn't actually mean ready, especially if Ling Qi is there to tip the balance.

Aren't his belongings on the other side of the boy-cooties kekkai?

We could contract Fu Xiang for a revenge, or an insider job though?
Damn, you're right.

Man, this sucks. Most of the people we want to rob we can't.
Reminder that older years don't have a boy-cooties kekkai, so we can target both girls and boys there.

Her 'class' soon joined the disciples from the other three lecture halls, and moved on to the two mountain paths that lay behind the main hall. Each path was flanked by a pair of large stone pillars carven with many symbols, centered around a single large character. The right hand set the character for man, the left hand set the character for woman. The meaning was rather obvious, and it seemed that no one had a desire to test the elders words today.
The plaza itself was more populated if only just, and it was here that she saw for the first time older disciples, there were more of them than students her own age in fact. She wondered where they had come from? She stuck to the edge of the plaza for a time to observe, but eventually relaxed. None of the older disciples seemed to have any interest in those from your group. In fact, they seemed to be almost pointedly ignoring them as they went about their business. Most seemed to be going to the large lecture building, but others were simply standing around in groups chatting or heading off down the other…

Those hadn't been there yesterday. There were now four other gates, two on the eastern side and two on the western side. Each with a path winding either up or down the mountain. Ling Qi shook her head at the sight. More magic, she really was out of her league at the moment. The confidence she had felt last night and this morning were ebbing rather quickly. Still, she did eventually move out of the shade of the gates and begin searching for Han Jian.
Mmh, I misremember that part, I thought there was just 'one' other gate so the older disciples had just one place to live in. Still 4 gate for up/Down doesn't quite mean it doesn't but it's a bit more unsure.
The day passed quickly in her collection of cores and a spiritually infused fruits and wood that she had learned would be good for him from her time with Elder Ying. Once he was safely and comfortably asleep in his kiln, Ling Qi made her exit, slipping out of the girls residential area to head higher up the mountain where the older outer disciples lived.

Like the first years living area, it lay nestled in a small valley, behind powerful warding totems, which thankfully didn't bar her passage. It was a bit different from the one she was used too though, there were less home's overall, and none of the truly tiny ones, like the hovel Su Ling and Li Suyin had been living in. She supposed that made sense, many of the shops in the market had attached living spaces, she supposed more of the older Outer disciples made their own spaces.

She could mull such things over later though. For now she focused on flitting over the rooftops without being spotted by the handful of girls out and about in the neatly paved streets. There were signs of battle damage here and there, and at least one home too broken to live in, but they all seemed to be under the process of repair, despite the fact that Cai Renxiang's authority didn't extend this far yet.
This shows that there are warding totems, but it doesn't feel like those are 'girls' quarters, especially considering that many people do leave outside of the older year's quarters but in the market.

So, mmh. Less definite than I thought, it seems. @yrsillar are the older years also separated by girl/boy quarters that have warding against the other?

This event has provided a bunch of older named characters that need a good hard kick in the junk, but seeing as that might be tough and I don't think the thread will be up for it I would go with robbing their houses instead.

And so it begins.

I was trying to explain this in the discord, but it would probably be best to drop it in here too.

Sun Liling has already won basically. The only way she comes out of this behind is if she loses so badly she gets captured.
This event has caused a bunch of clashes between people who have sown their own grudges and are probably not going to wait for whenever Cai's officials can preside over their 'duels' even if they were inclined to settle these grudges with one.

I don't think she'll win the fight (we'll see what happens there) but she's almost certainly filled her purpose of 'disrupt the order lockdown' by throwing the entire outer sect into it where at first Cai was mostly dealing with the first years and beginning to make in roads for older year control.
Unless Cai can expand SIGNIFICANTLY and RAPIDLY following this battle she will be unable to maintain order in the wider world, and the outer sect people can't be expected to leave people alone anymore.

I'm expecting her to consolidate her hold on the first years and weather the storm, but who knows she might have been far more advanced in the politics scene for the outer sect that Ling Qi realized (she almost certainly is, but the extent remains to be seen).

Forgot to answer this, but yes they are.

I really hope Cai manages to regain control, not having to deal with bullshit like people stealing our stuff or property getting wrecked was really convenient.

Sort of makes me wonder. There's an age range here at the sect - not everyone seems to come in at the same time, and people used to get married a lot younger. On the other hand, Cultivators live a long time, and do things slower (because of how much of their life is devoted to cultivating, in part).

Does the sect have something like Married Student Housing for the students who are, you know, actually married?

Typically betrothals aren't finalized into marriage until people are in their twenties since teenagerhood is prime cultivation time and parents don't want their sons and daughters focusing on other stuff that early. It's not unusual for a cultivation family to not have their first kid until their thirties or even later for stronger and more talented people. They have a lot of time after all. Even a second realm can expect to live comfortably for 170-200 years if they don't get done in by violence.

Add in medicine that renders the survival rate of children and infants to be equal or superior to a modern country, and the drive for reproduction is reduced a fair bit.

But yeah, for the older/permanent outer disciples they tend to have households elsewhere, like the market or simply in freestanding areas.

[X] Write-in: Have Xiulan meditate to recover, and have Ling Qi strike the next 'cowardly ambusher' that shows up to try and disrupt her meditations.
-[X] Once she has recovered somewhat, have Xiulan and Fan Yu break out with Ling Qi shadowing them. If the trapper ambushes them when they trip the alarm, turn the tables on him in a counter-ambush.

Vote's been called.

So, @yrsillar a question about the gown and the bonuses it applies.

Does the gown apply a stacking darkness and water decrease to FVM for a total of -4 to qi costs? Or does it only apply one of the bonuses for a total of -2 to qi costs for FVM?

This boy-cootie kekkai is getting seriously bothersome. I'm thinking we should ask Fu Xiang how hard getting past it would be, or Xuan Shi... Or, I guess, experiment a bit. I guess we have enough victims around to throw one at the ward to see what it does. Hopefully we'll find some way to bypass it.

Being able to steal from the boy's side of the camp would open up at least 3 named targets for taking everything they have. On this side of the line we only really have 1, Sun Liling. I think it would very worthwhile to figure out if we can steal from the boy's side, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

Well, there is Xia Ju and her sister, Wen Ai and Chu Song, as well as Guandao girl, but yeah. Being able to also target boys would be a real help there.
