Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

Meanwhile, I'm trying to remember which day of the week we're on. How long ago were the "monstrously outdated" watches created? How long is it until the Saturday concert date?

It's still Thursday in story and considering the number of events left for Thursday and while Friday doesn't have too many the main one is the nine and clean up tour so I'd expect it to be at least an irl year before we hit the concert assuming it doesn't get cancelled.

The slaughterhouse is going to be stopped by morning isn't it lol?

In theory but the reason they've taken so long to arrive is that they start late, stop early and are prone to spending excessive amounts of time on distractions such as messing with the decoy instead of taking his truck. That means it's pretty likely they won't get near enough until the afternoon even with the forge being extremely fed up with them and so probably jumping them as soon as they get close enough it's calculated to be undeniable.

I love how the s9 is completely contained and that the Forge has become just fed up with them. Them completely losing their mystique is hilarious. One of the best ways to deal with them, even ignoring whatever Joe and Co actually end up doing to them.

The words cannot describe how fucking LIVID Jack would be if he learns what CF thinks about him. For this guy reputation is everything, recognition is exactly what he wants, in any form, so denying him that and treating him as a particularly annoying cockroach is just pure karmic retribution in action.

Aisha dictated that entire conversation with Brian. Maturing and kunoichi training for the win.

I remember when Aisha intruded into Joe's Workshop for the first time. The comment sector was up in arms to somehow deal with the infosec threat. Stasis and mindwipes were mentioned lol.

It's really fun when Brian discovers that HE is the one Aisha makes sure to save from his mess.

It's really nice that Brian understood that it was Joe saving Aisha that made him broke his intention to not do anything when he talked to Lisa.

Thanks for the chapter. Love it!

I can imagine the freak out the PRT would have with the Nine defeat and also that prevents Scion from going mad in about a few more years but he may get therapy from Joe to prevent him from doing that if he talk no jistu him and provides evidence that it's useful for an alien mind like him
You say that as if a non-depressed Scion isn't worse for humanity than the depressed one. Remember, the Entities are not our friends. The best case scenario in their plan for us is every possible alternate Earth getting blown up in a century or so.

Honestly in canon Jack setting him off early just meant he was sloppy about it and botched the job!

It's not necessarily impossible to talk an Entity around to a better scenario than that, but I'm not sure why anybody would try.
There's no benefit worth the risk of becoming ground-zero of an infinitely propagating hyperdimensional explosion of Entities, if they ever figure out how to infinity.

"It was the best one I had." He said, and it was one he'd make again. Things with Aisha might be completely upside down, but she was still his sister. Which meant he had to be the big brother he'd committed to being, even if she didn't need the same kind of support.

"Maybe at the time." Aisha agreed. "But you should probably reconsider working for Coil."
Does someone more knowledgeable than me mind explaining why making a deal with the PRT wasn't an option here?

He was about 16 or so when he triggered. The PRT was never going to give a Ward custody of their younger sibling. Not that turning to crime was actually a good idea or "the best option he had," I'm pretty sure that's just Aisha humoring him. No reason to get into an argument about his stupid decision years after it happened and his reasoning for making it is no longer relevant. It wasn't a good idea, in fact it was a worse idea than joining the Wards, it just doesn't matter anymore.

Brian was underage so would be unlikely to get aid from them in being the guardian. They are also in the bay where a low opinion of the prt is common especially because they are black and the whole Nazi issue. On top of that Brian has commitment issues and there's no taking back giving them your id and getting out of the prt is a herculean task even if you try when you age out of the wards so he wouldn't have a way out which he's dumb enough to think he had with the Undersiders.

Seems like he should've waited the two years then if age was an issue and he still doesn't have what he needs for Aisha even now while actively committing crimes. You know your public relations are bad when kids would rather work for supervillains.

This is part of why people say he's dumb. His do crime, get Aisha plan was doomed to failure from the start.

Despite all of his bad decisions, and his general annoying demeanor, I can't help but feel for Brain. Humans are almost always products of their circumstances, and his were really really shitty. As a child of that kind of abuse myself, his father is getting off too lightly in my book. I also found myself annoyed with Aisha, her seeming vindictiveness in scoring points instead of having a conversation. But that probably has more to do with me not having siblings and not understanding that kind of dynamic. Also, Brian earned some of it, so maybe I'm just hypersensitive to it because I can empathize with his character fairly easy.

If Scion meets Joe and sees all the powers he has, he might wonder if the guy's an avatar of another Entity.

Which the Celestial Forge kinda is.

This chapter was a delight. Aisha going over her past with Joe had a wonderful blend of feelings. I felt the nostalgia and fondness when talking about Joe. She also showed just how much she has grown when reflecting on her past actions. And Brian's reaction just seemed so natural.

… as a hobby/sideshow to her real power(s).

Lovely chapter LordR. – as usual I'm getting that "just one more" craving.

Speaking of, I want to see how Brian and Lisa interact now. I mean there's basically no way she isn't going to notice him wandering around like a shell shocked zombie and wonder why.
If the answer is "Aisha upgraded my watch" she might actually explode.

Especially as there's a decent chance the Mantic Field short-circuits both her and Coil.

Also that Vista is still in her home and she still isn't in a good spot. Its undefined exactly what he could have done but locking himself into a mysterious crime boss isn't a good choice.
Man, Youth Guard is really just keep proving how worthless of an organization they are. Good idea, abysmal execution.

It's Wildbow, what do you expect? But in this fic, they're way more competent hence why Weld and Lily aren't living in a bunker instead of actual living places.
They are clearing the bar that lies on the ground; Vista's situation is exactly the kind of thing they supposed to be dealing with and they just not even acknowledged it. So in BCF they are still total morons, they just do bare minimum to get the paycheck it seems.
