Like The Englanderish, though, I'm interested in seeing what would happen if Kaworu was the victim (though with his AT-field, maybe he's just immune).
I'm somewhat divided. Could be Rei, but I also suspect Shinji, simply because our esteemed evil bas author has stated that none of the remaining angels will deal with the canonical pilots, and I also seem to recall it being stated that they'll gett one angel each of these last three... and I have a nasty suspicion that Rei will get the honour of dealing with the Fish. After she's started to care for him. Hugs will be needed. For everyone.
From a meta perspective, Asuka already had the Sea of Dirac treatment instead of Shinji. So I'm thinking Arael will switch to Shinji.
When OG played out, Shinji was in quarantine because Gendou didn't want to contaminate Unit-01. Since... that never happened, Shinji will be deployed. Then, Asuka got hit by the mindbeam because she was overeager to go point. Since there's no reason for that, she won't dive headfirst to hallelujah.
That leaves Rei or Shinji. Since Rei needs to get the lance, Shinji will be the only option left.
Now, I didn't count Hikari and Kaworu in because I don't think Gendou will sortie them unless they really need to.

He hinted there will be a Rei III. Of course, it may not be Armisael who is the cause.
Of course, if Rei is the focus of Armisael, then that would be another Doylist reason for Arael to hit Shinji.

You know, Rei III could be what triggers Tabris. Depending on when her last backup was (and she's not getting backed up as frequently now, iirc) Rei dying and coming back as Rei III could erase her memories of Kaworu and thus her fondness for him, leaving Kaworu distraught and likely to give up on trying to resist the call.
