Actually the show was not popular in Japan at all in fact I believe it bomb there.
wikipedia says this ain't so.

it does, however, note that the original Spring 1998 broadcast run on TV Tokyo was cut short after 12 eps and a special for being inappropriate for its channel + schedule slot.

The 26 ep run was then shown in full in autumn 1998 on a different channel called Wowow.

It then won two awards (best male character for Spike, best voice actor for Megumi Hayashibara) in the January 1999 reader-voted "Anime Grand Prix" in Animage magazine.

The beret in combination with the red hair and eyepatch suddenly makes me think about Asuka, instead of being raised in Germany, being raised in a blue-collar Irish town.

I've never heard actual Irish cursing, but I am assured by an Irish acquaintance who once got cussed out by his Very Irish co-worker that cursing by Irish people in the West Germanic language widely spoken in these islands is plenty impressive itself :)

at least it lost to something else I really like. Nothing close to how much I love Persona, b
Well, frankly Flowers of Evil touches on some of the more sinister vibes in Persona, and it stands alone as the most prominent crossover pairing with Gridman fics at AO3.

Asuka Ó Bearáin followed the exhange students to the tram station.

Irish!Asuka gives me ideas for a European Eva AU. East European Shinji, Angels becoming Strigoi, the works. I've got the next part of my own fic to do, but I might get around to that sometime.

Huh... Today I learned

Well, as grommile said, not really, but I do know (though only because of one Japanese Youtuber) that Cowboy Bebop probably isn't that famous in Japan because of that whole timeslot thing. Maybe. Again just speculation/rationalization/guessing of that one Japanese Youtuber I saw.

-look up flowers of evil, looks at gridman fics on ao3; finds only one crossing over with flowers of evil..in Chinese- Okay...I think I'm looking at the wrong things and/or using the wrong search words/tags because I don't get it. Either way, the Persona fan in me is gonna take a while to console or I might just keep writing chronicles interacting with persona like that elizabeth one I did with Gridman looking to win...

:o
I dunno what to tell you, except there are two ways to include Flowers of Evil to results:

Aku No Hana | Flowers Of Evil
惡の華 | Flowers of Evil

Well shucks, after double-checking I'm seeing only 10 works searching the above fandoms, and indeed only that one in Chinese language specifically featuring SSSS.Gridman (season 1 anime) as crossover. I would check their servers again tomorrow.

SEED 19:
ANIME: Dai-Guard (Long Form): 32.8%
MOVIE: Mad Max: Fury Road (Short Form): 67.2%
Comment: "Why would they send us a documentary of Australia?"

Darn. As the one who nominated it I'd been hoping Dai-Guard would go all the way. :(

SEED 20:
ANIME: Code Geass + R2 (Long Form): 75%
ALBUM: A Night At The Opera (Blind Guardian): 25%
Comment: Man albums aren't really standing a chance :V

A shame too, as I like that album and loathe Code Geass. :mob:

SEED 29:
FANFIC: Thousand Shinji (Long Form): 9.4%
MANGA: Shinji Ikari Raising Project (Long Form): 90.6%
Comment: I think this is the biggest blowout in this poll so far. Which is a shame, cause I don't think TS is that bad. Also this is gonna be a tomb to get through :V

Oh come on, how is Rei reacting to herself as an avatar of Nurgle not taking the top spot?

SEED 57:
ALBUM: Blurryface (Twenty One Pilots): 35.9%
ANIME: Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure (Short Form): 64.1%
Comment: Why did I even put albums in this poll I wonder :V

Obviously so excellent - but poorly known - anime would have a better chance! :D

SEED 58:
ANIME: Now and Then, Here and There (Short Form): 70.3%
FANFIC: And If That Don't Work? (Long Form): 29.7%
Comment: Surprised this is an exception to the Eva rule, I haven't seen NaT HaT but it must be pretty good if it beats AITDW.

Oh yes, let's watch a bunch of traumatized child soldiers react to an anime about a kidnapped boy becoming a traumatized child soldier! It's comedy gold!

Kind of disappointed about Stranger Things, but i've heard good things about .hack, so i'm not massively distraught. :p

From who?! It had a great soundtrack - who has ever had anything else good to say about .hack//Sign? :jackiechan:

Well, in my case with my vote, it's cause all I know about this fic is it's a NGE/Warhammer crossover and my mind went "NGE + Warhammer = OVERLOAD OF ANGST" so went with the second choice. Apparently, from all the comments here, it's a lot more zany than I thought it'd be. Might give it chancw later. Might.

You're the first person I've seen to hate Code Geass when all I've seen/heard is good stuff about it (including from a friend), especially in regards to Lelouch (aka one other famous role of Joker from P5 aka Jun Fukuyama/of Yu Narukami from P4 aka Johnny Yong Bosch) so I'm sure someone out there loves .hack//Sign which i'm actually vaguely interested but definitely not looking into for a long time.

I mean you're not wrong :V but TS!Shinji tries his best to avoid that kinda thing in himself and others.
Mind you, TS!Shinji is actually pretty different compared to canon and most fanfiction interpretations. I think it's an interesting take but YMMV on whether it's for you or not.

Sounds like there's a few results out there that weren't what people expecting, but ain't that just democracy in a nutshell :V and don't worry, poll's still open so it can always be something else. Keep spreading it around and getting people voting, I say!
...Well, in cases like Thousand Shinji, it probably won't matter how much longer I run the poll for, let's be honest :p

From the start the plot synopsis sounded really generic, I was extremely over stories about Evil Dystopian Empires at the time, and then the shark jump of a Horribly Contrived Massacre happened and killed any interest I might have had in the series.

'Good' may have been the wrong word, in hindsight. It might be more accurate to say that i've heard "things", and am curious regardless of perceived quality. :p

If I recall correctly the animation was good, and as I said the soundtrack is top-notch - but it's just so f@#king dull. There's a player in a MMORPG named Tsukasa who can't log out. Several people spend a lot of time logging into this fantasy MMORPG so they can wander around talking about the philosophy of playing MMORPG's and his problem - and the only reason I understand what happened at the end is because I read the Wikipedia page. That's not particularly unusual for an anime series, but in this case it was just a cardboard cherry on top of a cardboard sundae.

Ah so you've never actually watched CG? Because I can say that everything you've described it as is much more compelling in the actual show, divorced from repeated retelling and hearsay.

* DragonUnitOmega, AO3 was having server troubles. I think some of the 2014 fics (around when the manga wrapped up) simply vanished once I took a glance at WayBackMachine. Gridman meanwhile had anime and manga around the time of the Franxx show's debut, so maybe there was a mixup in how the server lists fics from that specific year. I couldn't tell you.

and killed any interest I might have had in the series
Well..

The biggest gripe I share about this show? Lelouch went guns blazing chasing down fellow Brits like it was some kind of McClane vs Gruber death match. As if Nunnally needed to exposed to such repeat bloodshed given what befell their household.

I think the show would have been more palatable for a lot of people if C2 had accidentally knocked him out when her seal was cracked open (conveniently nitrogen-based storage chemicals?) so the Britannian presence in Japan goes on a while longer. This gives Lelouch a chance to learn the frickin Geass abilities until he attains mastery. Who knows, the colony could have gone into full rebellion mode with all the AVALANCHE types grabbing spare frames. Yes, FF7, which liked to do all-caps for organizations like Star Wars back in the day.

...really excited to see Chronicles tally up those responses, and put this thread through a surface detonation stress test. Ciao!

...Really? I thought the .hack series was really popular. I mean how many game sequels does it have? ...Wait, what came first, the anime or the games? ...Does it matter?

... ... ...You know, i have trouble saying this summary is really wrong. The start up of the series does have a lot of similarities with other such. And now that i think of it the series does kind of look like a poorly written "accusation" fic, like that one with Beast Boy and Terra. I'm also still upset about how...well to not give away spoilers let's just say people got really stupid and it lead to a lot of death that i can't help but feel was avoidable.

...This does actually sum up what i recall of the anime and i had to do the same to pick up any of the series themes or what have you via Tvtropes. Then again i was...14 i think? Either way i was young enough to not be able of picking up such subtleties. Even more so is i was worst at it then most at that age so...
Will the losing options get pitted against each other when the current poll finishes?
Was wondering that myself. ...Also, shouldn't something be done fore the choices that have been on the poll forever yet have never actually won? And i ain't just talking about the ones i brought into the fold either; surely there are others on the list that have been waiting a lot longer but haven't been chosen.

Given that the last update from Stryp strongly implied that he was being processed for a medical discharge from the Army and that was before the lockdown I think it's safe to say he has other stuff on his mind at the moment.
If it is like the Air Force, those can take a long ass time and are stressful as all living hell
