Frankly, there's any number of things he might have said.

Seriously though, I imagine it was something that would be true from a certain point of view. Like "truly I needed you" or something like that. She calls him a lier not because he's outright lying but because she knows what he really means by those words are not what they may sound like on the surface.

In the manga, it was "Ritsuko Akagi, you have done well; I loved you", followed by him shooting her. After Rei joins with Lilith, Ritsuko shoots him, and says: "Liar! The only one you ever loved was [Yui]!"

In any case, the most natural follow up to the Laser Disc series once they've exhausted the official material would be to start throwing fan material at them. I say we start them off with Evangelion ReDeath...

I actually really like most of the "horrifying" pictures everyone else seems to despise. I just haven't figured out how to post pictures from the hard drive, as the button asks for a link. (I AM still fairly new to this, remember.)

Upload it to an image hosting site (personally, I use imgur, as you can just drag n drop), a lot of them will give you a forum link right away, or you just rightclick copy image location from there.

I'm still alive!
Sorry about the silence. Real life one for about a week they're due to kids and various family things, but now I am caught up and trying to write again.

@BG_Character_592, the laser disc Chronicles were a neat little omake, but yes I'm afraid they are definitely not Canon, due to ending bits I can't reveal yet.
Nope, it's because Gendo is cut off by an explosion. Rits in the show apparently hears him, but the viewers don't get to know.
There's no explosion. Gendo's line is deliberately unheard by the audience, because Anno loved the ambiguity. Here's a post I a post I made almost 4 years ago on the topic:
Extra fun: In the confrontation in Terminal Dogma, there is a line Gendo says to her right before he shoots her that is silent in the series. All we hear is: Gendo: "Ritsuko Akagi, I truly... "
Ritsuko, with a sad smile: "Liar."
~SHOT~
In the manga version, he says "Ritsuko Akagi, I truly loved you." After Rei refuses him, Ritsuko, not quite dead, shoots Gendo through the throat, and gasps "Liar....the only one.... you ever loved.... was her."
Other (decently grounded) speculation has his line as "I truly needed you." which is also the mid-title of the last episode. Both lines work, but how sincere was Gendo?

I always like "I needed you" better because it has the twist of technically being true, just not in the way Ritsuko wanted it to be. It also allows Gendo to be sincere without actually being sincere, which seems like the sort of "out" he would take.

Never wrote it intending to be canonised, considering we don't even know the ending to A&T and have to work off our assumptions and guesswork for any sort of continuation :V

Though that does make it sound like there will be a truly Evangelion plot point near the end of A&T that completely blindsides us. Hopefully not in a tragic way, but that's the thinking of a sweet summer child.

As I learned, Strypgia is the reincarnation of Aku and always has a plan... But then, he's also on record saying that he hopes the End of A&T will be a good antidote to the End of Eva, on apparently legendary levels (FMA:B was referenced in that discussion, but I've not seen that yet). And he also believes in "Earn Your Happy Ending", so what I take out of it is that we're doomed to traumatic !!fun!! until the middle or end of Götterdämmerung at which point things become WAFFy again. At the very least, Rei should survive in some form, since S&A won't be happy if she permadies. And if Rei survives, she's very likely to be happy ("she won't be unhappy" and it's hard to survive and be neither happy nor unhappy while making Shinji and Asuka happy), so I'm guessing Bishie Fishie will be surviving in some form as well.

Besides, this is a WAFF story. I trust in Stryp. *waves A&T flag as well as OT3 and TsundeReinbowTrout flags*

The Laserdisc Chronicles were fun, but a little heavy on "that will never be you." When you're in Evangelion, it's always healthy to keep a healthy awareness that everything you love could be ripped from you at any moment.

If we speak of fan material, there is one that must not be forgotten.

Also, I still owe @BG_Character_592 a reaction of the cast to Darling in the FranXX, I'll get to it eventually.
