I almost pity QB - having to work around three separate and different sources of OOC knowledge, all of which exchange information in private. Good luck figuring out who actually knows what.

This information uncertainty is our greatest weapon against it - it forces it not to go all-in on its manipulation gambits, because it doesn't know what's already been defused and what hasn't.
KB: For millennia, nothing! And now three entirely different kinds of foreknowledge, in a single month!

-[X] Explain the experiment. Ask if she's willing to go into detail about what happened.

-[X] If it wasn't too bad, ask if Mami's OK with experimenting together in the afternoon.
//Old votes lost a little necessary clarity. My worry is that if we ask Mami flat out, she will say yes, regardless of her feelings.
With this worry in mind, how likely is it that telling her of the experiment and it's potential significance will also pressure her into agreeing?

[X] Apologize profusely, and explain what you just did.
-[X] Properly ask Mami if she's okay helping you test it later this afternoon.

[X] Ask Kyuubey:
-[X] About Magical Girls and immortality.
-[X] Can it put us in contact with Kuroki Matsuko and Hideyoshi Nao?
-[X] If you can contact the girls, give them the standard Grief Cleansing talk, and try to arrange meetings.

[X] Keep the Utility Fog, and rethink how much Grief you can carry around inconspicuously.
-[X] Give Grief to KB if necessary.
-[X] Test to see if creating heat/current/gravity with your nanoparticles requires trance time or not. Test to see if your nanoparticles can intercept a thrown summoned hammer.

[X] Kasamino time!
-[X] Invite the girls to a quick brunch if you've got time.
-[X] Talk about Sayaka: Opinions, payment... schedules, if necessary?
-[X] Ask Yuma about how the first KyouSaya meeting went.

We previously determined that temperature and magnetism were properties that didn't require trance times. If the same is still true of tiny grief nanoparticles, then within 100m we should be able to do some really whacky shit with The Cloud. TM
Short SCIENCE! added; last line and second line rewording accepted.

Now checking Phoenix's ideas...

EDIT: Making sure Mami's OK before asking to experiment with this later?

Also iffy about directly talking to Kyuubey about Kuroki, seeing as I don't think we have an alibi for how we learned about her, but that cat's already well out of the bag. (The question is who's knowledge it will be ascribed to, Homura's, Oriko's, or ours.)
The correct response is "no comment". Let him wonder. We're not obligated to satisfy its curiosity.

Asking Kyubey to put us in contact with Kuroki is pretty much the only lead we have left for finding her. We need to make use of this opportunity. We've already discussed wanting to find her in the open; the bunny-cat's out of the bag.

Liquid grief will still be here this afternoon. We don't have any pressing need for it. Let's not waste time that we could use finding and saving a girl that we've been looking for for days.

Compared to when Kyubey made tens of thousands of people forget a magical war in the middle of Sendai, you wouldn't think that our flying around would be that much work for him. Most people don't look up very often.

Making our MOF sky-colored or even actively camouflaged (and remember that we have been able to make grief invisible before, it just feels witchy, which isn't a factor when hiding things from mundanes) should drop the number of people noticing it to almost nil.

Instead of the MOF, use Grief to fly like Superman. :V

Then it will be more ironic when Sayaka turns against us and tells us we can't put the world in a bottle.

Very this. If QB can twitch its furry tail and re-enact the repair scene from Fantastic Beasts, then I'm really not concerned about the two or so people he'd need to bamboozle if we made our grief platform mostly sky blue from below.

Hell, he's probably just hacking and modifying radar signals live instead of bothering to mindwipe people and modify records - it's likely less effort, and you'd need a hell of an argument to convince me that the galaxy traveling alien hasn't utterly dominated our puny human computer systems.

"No, look, all I need to do is warp space to fit it in my barrier and I totally can!"

"... you're making this dramatic confrontation difficult, Sabrina."

"No, but look, I'll show yo-" *piledrivered by like a bajillion Sayaklones*
Sabrina lies down on the ground. Broken.

Defeated.

An exhausted and battered Mami kneels beside her, cradling the white haired's head in her lap.

Sabrina tears her teary eyes away from Mami's to look up beyond her, at Sayaka's sorrowful, yet determined visage.

"How..." she whispers, "how did you manage to take me down? I was a God."

The bleunette sighs tiredly, before shaking her head. "God or not..."

She glares down at the couple.

"You are under arrest."

The would be God doesn't resist as the Sayaklones lift her from the ground and handcuff her -Mami almost lets herself be taken just as easily, but she struggles and clings to Sabrina.

The Sayaklones' expressions soften, and they let her be. Mami's hands tie themselves around the white haired girl, tighter than any handcuff would hold them.

An extra squad of Sayaklones arrives to reinforce the already present group, though, just in case.

Sabrina's eyes slid over the cratered ground as she's taken. The Sayaklones lead her to a police car, one of them opening the door.

She stops suddenly, the Sayaklone leading her giving her a questioning look.

Blue eyes meet blue, but Sabrina's turn away, looking at the one she knows is the original.

Sayaka startles almost imperceptibly as Sabrina's gaze zeroes in on her.

"Where did I go wrong?" asks the caucassian girl.

Sayaka grins gloomily.

"I guess... when you allowed me to amass this much power," she motions around herself, at herself.

Sabrina shakes her head, looking down at Mami, who returns her stare with a smile.

"No... that's where I went right."

Together, Sabrina and Mami get into the back of the police car, leaving the dumbfounded Sayaklones to catch up.

Sayaka rubs at her eyes, smiling.

"Take them away."

"How..." she whispers, "how did you manage to take me down? I was a God."

"I copied Kirika's antimagic, then stacked like a billion applications of it at once. The magic amplification powers helped too."

"Oh."

"Git gud, scrublord."

Meanwhile (given certain interpretations of temporal mechanics), in a certain devil's barrier:

"You're under arrest!"

"...darn."

My thoughts here are, she can't feel pressure to agree with what Sabrina doesn't broach.
EDIT: Making sure Mami's OK before asking to experiment with this later?
Yes, basically. I just want to make very sure that Sabrina doesn't accidentally pressure Mami. I think her engaging with the choice is important, but if it's that bad... there's a point where I don't want to take risks.

My issue isn't just contacting Kuroki, it's asking about her in general. This isn't a concern about what I didn't keep in, but one discussing what I did keep in.

*eyetwitch*
... There is no dichotomy here. Speaking for myself, I'm largely interested in its on-contact and inherent properties. (especially optical properties but also in general) The latter is either notable at glance, or can be toyed with at leisure. The former can be done by sticking things in a bowl of grief to take with us. This is designed to be an experiment that can run in the background.

And frankly, if we do get info, I expect we'll be too busy this morning to do anything other than refer it to Masami and Hiroko.

Kyuubey being Kyuubey, Albertine=Kuroki, so...

Really, he's not even saying Kuroki didn't develop the enchantments, thought that's likely the case.

And frankly, if we do get info, I expect we'll be too busy this morning to do anything other than refer it to Masami and Hiroko.
If we contact the stealthgucas and their need isn't urgent, then we make appointments to meet later. We'll have that luxury because we'll know the situation is stable.

If we contact the stealthgucas and their need is urgent, then meeting Kyouko will probably have to wait until the afternoon. It's not like she'll have other commitments. We can let the Asunaronians enjoy a local tourist attraction while we do that, if need be.

Really, he's not even saying Kuroki didn't develop the enchantments, thought that's likely the case.
Notice that he qualified his statement by saying she couldn't develop strong enchantment "without guidance." Not that she hadn't developed it. (Also, Sayaka learned enchantment in basically no time, so...)

She might have Witched.
I think his wording implied that she's still alive.

To be honest, KB's doing this because we have been ignoring it, rather than cooperating with it.
Gonna need a citation on that. Because he seems to be doing this because he found a solution that is mutually beneficial to both parties. We should encourage this behavior, rather than have him think of us as "irrationally uncooperative and spiteful". Yes, Kyubey can help us out, so long as we take care to ask all of the necessary questions beforehand (we can trust the letter of his words, but not necessarily the spirit of them).

I think we should take what we can, then ditch KB. If it wants anything from us, he's gonna have to work for it.
That is a terrible way to conduct a long-term business relationship.

Like, I get that you hate Kyubey and don't trust him. But put that irrationality aside--we're stuck with Kyubey for the foreseeable future (and beyond, really). We're centuries away from being able to actively and concretely resist/oppose him in a meaningful way that wouldn't hurt us more than it would hurt him. Thus, we should endeavor to have a positive business relationship with him, and the easiest way to do that is by starting out on the right foot.

So far, no one has caught Kyubey is a blatant, flat-out lie. And Kyubey is not the type to screw over people who could be more useful to his goals by being cooperative with. Kyubey knows that we're already suspicious of him. Him betraying even our tentative trust in him would be a very stupid move on his part, since it would lead to permanent outright hostility.

I... gah, there's no 'good will' with KB. Anything we can offer it is either worthless, or something it wants.

There's also no 'offending' KB. As long as we don't start cutting into its profits, we're fine with him.

As long as we have something it wants, that's all the good we're good for it. And it'll work to get us to cooperate if that's what it needs to do. We really, really shouldn't offer KB anything for free; we should always get something back for any effort we put into furthering KB's goals.

I'mma stop you right there. Extracting any implications from QB's words beyond the literal truth is a suckers game.

We should encourage this behavior, rather than have him think of us as "irrationally uncooperative and spiteful".

That said, yes, getting QB to treat us as a (semi)rational actor is likely to be more pleasant for us than him treating us as an unpredictable variable to be eliminated. Right up until the sudden but inevitable betrayal for the sake of Madoka's sweet potential, anyway.

We're centuries away from being able to actively and concretely resist/oppose him in a meaningful way that wouldn't hurt us more than it would hurt him.

Other than a controlled Madowish, you mean?

Good thinking. Edited. Although I almost feel like we should wait to ask at all until after school when we can talk to Mami about it face-to-face.

That's my point, yes.

(Also, Sayaka learned enchantment in basically no time, so...)

"Sayaka has stealth, too," you point out, staring at Kyuubey. That's... well, it could be trying to backstab you, but this is explicitly an offer for you.

"She needs to go to school," Kyuubey says. "Additionally, she's inexperienced with enchantment, and won't be able to make you a stealth device."
What Sayaka's doing isn't enchantment. It's a natural manifestation of her powers.

If her gems were enchantments, well, first, she'd need something to enchant, she wouldn't be popping out gems out of nowhere, but more important, other meguca would be able to use them, too.

What Sayaka's doing isn't enchantment. It's a natural manifestation of her powers.

And yes, this. That's not enchantment at all, it's her power having a built in storage mechanism. (Which is entirely on point with Magical Girl theming for shows with collectible macguffins. Way to stay in-genre, Sayaka!)

We're centuries away from being able to actively and concretely resist/oppose him in a meaningful way that wouldn't hurt us more than it would hurt him.
Other than a controlled Madowish, you mean?
I'm not so sure that's the case. If this ribbon thing means that it's possible to have global grief control, then that would mean that we can potentially neuter his operations on Earth.

If her gems were enchantments, well, first, she'd need something to enchant,
I thought she was using something. I'm gonna go check the archive.

I thought she was using something. I'm gonna go check the archive.

Nope. They explicitly pop out of nothing. (Or, well, pure magic.)

The actual enchantment Sayaka was working on was a magical rolodex for all those gems, and that had materials, which is probably what confused you. (And I'll note that project wasn't going anywhere near as well.)

Or increase his efficiency. Which would be a very good thing, considering we'd be able to save more magical girls because Kyuubey would be assisting us, and he gets to slow the eventual heat death of the universe, which is not a bad goal.

Remember, Kyuubey is a paperclip machine. If we offer a better way of collecting grief, then Kyuubey will be our ally for as long as that remains true. Another reason I'd like to get in touch with his scientists and see if they have some theoretical form of grief we might be able to construct.
