Nah, I'm pretty sure we can just ask Kyubey about it. I'm fairly certain he uses Your Tears in all of his cooking, so he must be familiar with Liquid Grief.
Hmmm... In all seriousness, this is a good time to ask just that. For one thing I'm curious whether the Incubators have been using naked grief directly or are feeding it to grief seeds.

For another, if the Incubators don't have it already, one imagines that direct grief-to-energy conversion we've achieved might have trade value.
That got a chuckle outta me. He should quit his current job and get into his true calling, stand up.
Now I can only picture Kyuubey and Homura as the world's most deadpan comedy duo.

[ ] Apologize profusely, and explain what you just did. Be giddy about your success.
-[ ] Properly ask Mami for help, if she's OK with it.
-[ ] Promise to be there for lunch.

[ ] Ask Kyuubey:
-[ ] About Magical Girls and immortality.
-[ ] Can it put us in contact with Kuroki Matsuko and Hideyoshi Nao?

[ ] Keep the utility fog up and running, unless it bothers your friends.
-[ ] Measure how much more Grief you could keep without needing to give excess to Kyuubey.

[ ] Kasamino time!
-[ ] Formally apologize: You can't make it to lunch today. A quick brunch, maybe?
-[ ] Discuss Sayaka: Their impressions, training payment... schedules if that's necessary?
-[ ] Ask Yuma for the play-by-play of the KyouSaya meeting.

That there at the end, that's the most important part.

Also, do we bring up Nao with Mami... or not?

I don't think this is the time to be giddy. If anything, I'm concerned.

Remember how Hildegard reacted when we tried to act on her core, her heartstrings, with our magic? I can't help but wonder if what just happened to Mami is similar.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure Mami is downplaying the hell out of how it felt. Her emotions do not match her words. And the hyphens to me look like she's just catching herself before she speaks.

The question is: was this the result of infusing the ribbon with our magic, or was it the result of the grief coming into contact with her magic and ours at the same time?

For anyone who's proposing a "Ditch Kyuubey" Plan I have something I'd like to add.

[ ] Ditch Kyuubey
-[ ] A mile above the ground, by opening a Trap Door underneath it in the Mobile Oppression Fortress.

After all, Kyuubey has seen it all. We gotta be creative if we want to get our point across.

75!

It's good to keep a trump card, but not to cripple ourselves. :V

Though, 50m radius would make the reveal sound better.

"Fu fu fu... You fools! The truth is I've been fighting at only 50% strenght! But now that you have threatened my Mami, I have no choice but to Go! Full! POWAHHH!"

Meanwhile, "I've been fightint at only 75% strenght" doesn't sound as cool.

That's not how spheres work, though. Square-cube ratio.

If Sabrina is restricting herself to 50% of her control radius, she's only using 1/8 of her true strength.

Well, I can see the point of not voting be 'be giddy'. I expect some of that will shine through, but focus should be on Mami.

Always.

About liquid Grief: ... What about it? :p Idk.

So, um...

[] Apologize profusely, and explain what you just did. Be giddy about your success.
-[] Properly ask Mami for help, if she's OK with it.

[] Ask Kyuubey:
-[] About Magical Girls and immortality.
-[] Can it put us in contact with Kuroki Matsuko and Hideyoshi Nao? <- Let's not forget this! We need to do this... right nao.

[] Keep the Utility Fog, and rethink how much Grief you can carry around inconspicuously.
-[] Give Grief to KB if necessary.

[] Kasamino things :V

In that it's a new state we haven't done anythign with yet - and liquids can do some weird things in nature too.

Liquid Grief could have different uses depending on if it's compressible or non-compressible. And seeing as Grief is corrosive as a gas but not as a solid, Liquid Grief could have uses as an acidic-type substance as well. Not to mention that it's probably pretty hard to get it to turn into a liquid if you don't have MAGIC~*~*~ to do so, which means we could potentially provide Coobs with something his researchers might find valuable.

Or it could be completely useless, but we won't know until we check and pour some of it down Kyuubey's neck back hole.

Wait... wait... Kyubey can joke? Kyubey is capable of lying?! He just said a magical girl could die of old age! Did he mean heat death of universe old age or something? What the heck?!
He said she 'may' die of old age which isn't :turian:technically:turian: a lie.
After all while bodies may be fixed by magic we don't know how long the physical soul gem can last via deterioration although then were getting into an living longer then the sun levels of old age.

Hey, you can't have materials science without sciencing the materials. (I mean, in theory Luce Prima* alone is versatile enough to be another magical girl's entire powerset. There may not be anything else that choice buried in our grief control, but there's definitely going to be choice bits here and there.)

*note that I use Luce Prima here to refer to the entire gamut of light generation options.
In addition to Karnewarrior's thoughts, and into the more esoteric end of things, grief is deep purple. We've seen liquids of that rough description twice. Once in the aftermath of Walpurgisnacht's attack, the other time when Homucifer's cup ranneth over with it.

There are no guarantees that those were, in fact, variants of liquid grief, but the two effects being liquid curses is possible and if they were it does indicate transparency is also possible.

Beyond that, I want to test if it sets things on fire with prolonged contact. (or freezes, see: wraithy grief control theory.)

Hunh, speaking of wraithy, though not actually related at all, I wonder if memory stuff is a possible direction of concern with what happened to Mami. I mean, if us using Mami's ribbon to extend our range and putting grief in contact with it messed (and thus in contract with her soul) with her memories, that would certainly be intrusive.

Though if things are in that vein, the actual likelihood is less memory loss and more that we put emotions into contract with her soul, through a roundabout means, and it may have carried some of the context of those emotions with it.

[X] Onmur

Yaaaay for a mildly non-hostile and cooperative Cutebey! A few more productive sessions like this (especially if his Babbeh's First Science lecture reveals that a clear-seed's worth of loose grief is a better give to Incubators than a full Seed proper) and we might almost be ready to actually hug and pet him! Mami would like reconciling with Cutebey almost as much as with Kyouko and other apprentices right?

A bit dissapointed by the breakfast in bed though, belatedly. No mini-maidbrina to make Mami squee, and it felt like she largely blazed past it and all our hard work into just making it another normal day of preparing for school. Didn't quite match my rose-aura-heart-petals image of how she'd react to an overtly romantic gesture, anyways.

I'd like to make clear that I'd really like to ask Kyuubey if he could give us incubator research on grief. It could potentially tell us a lot, even if he refuses.

Wait, question
1) Gaseous grief made a piece of metal rust into oblivion
2) We made grief fog, and the world didn't Warm and Fuzzy Entropy

What's the difference?

So, @Onmur and everyone else, is no one else interested in any more science items today? After all, Firn himself said we still have time:

[] What do you say to Mami?
[] One more thing before you need to go to Kasamino
- [] Go to school and find Mami - maybe she could excuse herself to go to the nurse?
- [] Try again, this time with Mami fore-warned
[] Go to Kasamino early
- [] To do...
[] Write-in (word count limit: 150 words)

and we haven't really done all that much to assuage Kyubey's concerns about our masquerade violations. I mean, yeah, "that's his concern", but it sounds like he's becoming exasperated with us, and the best way to remove our masquerade violations from his concern is to make an example of us. That's why I was suggesting active camo:
[X] Before Kasamino:
-[X] Try to make an "active camo" system for your MOF. You can already do cameras with Grief and change colors; this should be easy.
It should be easy to pull off, given we already did the camera thing with pure multitasking, and should be good enough until we can enlist the invisible girl's help.

A day that will live in infamy!

The day when Fluffy Boy was dropped on an unsuspecting city, starting off the Meguca World War.

I think we got the most important SCIENCE! out of the way... and we already reduced the amount of mindwipes we're causing, thanks to Utility Fog.

If we're gonna do anything else about stealth, we could try and meet Nao right nao, or as KB said, while travelling to Asunaro.

... Add asking Mami if she'd like to see us right now? I doubt she'd go for it, like that time we almost walked into Mitakihara Middle to see her... mind, we know we can turn invisible, so we could meet Mami without making a scene.

We could easily do some basic camo too. I suppose we could simply color the bottom of our Grief Craft light blue and the only people who would notice us are the Radar Operators and the observant.

By a quarter, which means that instead of wiping 10,000 people's minds we're only having kyubey mind-wipe 7,500 people instead. We can do better, and it should only take a few minutes, compared to making a pit stop to meet Nao, which could take much longer and might not work.

We previously determined that temperature and magnetism were properties that didn't require trance times. If the same is still true of tiny grief nanoparticles, then within 100m we should be able to do some really whacky shit with The Cloud. TM

Merged and modded Onmur, Karnewarrior, and Eyes votes, with some additions and commentary of my own.

[X] Apologize to Mami. Make sure she's alright; both her body and her Soul Gem.
-[X] Explain the experiment. Ask if she's willing to go into detail about what happened.

-[X] If it wasn't too bad, ask if Mami's OK with experimenting together in the afternoon.
//Old votes lost a little necessary clarity. My worry is that if we ask Mami flat out, she will say yes, regardless of her feelings.

[X] Call ahead to Kyouko. Note when you plan to meet, your schedule crunch, and that you've been running experiments and may feel slightly different.

[X]Contract the Utility Fog's radius; See how dense it can get without becoming an issue.
-[X] Do some basic experiments with Liquid Grief. Leave it to sit for a bit.
-[X] Try to make an "active camo" system for your MOF.
//Other reasons to contracting utility fog down from max size: Keeping it under 100 meters ensures stuff like cars, wind, obstacles while we move, won't push it out of the radius.

[X] Question Kyuubey
-[X] Grief - ask what the Incubators know about it, especially in directly manipulating it.
-[X] Kuroki - how is her condition?
-[X] About Magical Girls and immortality.

Notable removals:

-[ ] Ask Kyuubey if he has the facilities to store and analyze samples. We'd be okay with giving him some if he'd like.
Not sure what this is for.
-[ ] Can he put us in contact with Kuroki Matsuko and Hideyoshi Nao?
I don't want to get into contact with Nao just yet. After we check her out with Homura and Mami, but not yet.

Also iffy about directly talking to Kyuubey about Kuroki, seeing as I don't think we have an alibi for how we learned about her, but that cat's already well out of the bag. (The question is who's knowledge it will be ascribed to, Homura's, Oriko's, or ours.)

We could easily do some basic camo too. I suppose we could simply color the bottom of our Grief Craft light blue and the only people who would notice us are the Radar Operators and the observant.
We can make the base matte to all wavelengths.

Alternatively, it occurs to me that we could pose part of our grief as a helicopter with a camera boom mounted to it. People see the helicopter and camera, they think "Oh, it's just a movie."

The question is who's knowledge it will be ascribed to, Homura's, Oriko's, or ours.

I almost pity QB - having to work around three separate and different sources of OOC knowledge, all of which exchange information in private. Good luck figuring out who actually knows what.

This information uncertainty is our greatest weapon against it - it forces it not to go all-in on its manipulation gambits, because it doesn't know what's already been defused and what hasn't.
