Are we gonna be outside Mitakihara by noon? The day planner doesn't say much, and my brain is kinda mushed more than usual to remember.
If we are, after our Radio Mitakihara segment, could we tell Madoka and Sayaka to accompany Mami during lunch? I know they'll do it without prompting, but I think we still need to say. It's gonna be hard for Mami when she runs to the rooftop and doesn't see Sabrina waiting for her there.
We need to be in Asunaro by 11. We're having a lunch swap on the roof with them our group. As a result, I'd say leaving at 10. Though there's a lot of fudging room for that if we can get a speed test going. (And I think we can,
trivially. How is written below.)
Anyways:
Proposed schedule, morning - noon
Early o-clock: Wake up early, start prepping breakfast and lunch (imagine latter probably with mami).
Cuddle o-clock: Eat breakfast. Radio hosting. Possible moment to do ribbon experiments.
8:30
ish* Arrive at school with Mami
In between o-clock: last time to do a little experimentation with Mami's ribbon. Possibly other simple science. Good moment to confirm our meeting with Asunaro Crew.
9:00-9:15: Meet Kyouko. I'd say it's best done early, as the earlier it's done, the more problems
10-ish, aka haste o-clock: Leave for Asunaro. If we spend thirteen minutes to an hour travelling alone then there's time and space for lighter science along the way. Only real worry is the possibility of distracted flying. (And worrying radar operators if there's anything more to Firn's joking comments about that happening in the discord.)
11 o-proximate: meet up in Asunaro (times may vary according to air-speed.)
12:30
ish* Lunchtime
*Times gained via google searching for typical Japanese school start and lunch times, not via the thread itself. Firn's noted that he likes to leave some fudging room so the real numbers may vary.
Personal science recommendations:
1: Magic and Ribbon test. (not that everyone else doesn't think so too, I just want to note my agreement with you all.)
2: Clock how fast we can move a grief marble across our range.
Version 1: If we can move it from ourselves to the edge in a single second, we can make it to Asunaro in an hour with time to spare. (100 m/s = 360 km/h).
Version 2: If a grief marble can cross the
diameter in one second, (with just enough offset to miss us of course) that's shows we have time to spare. (200 m/s = 720 km/h.) This gives us a lot more leeway as we can get to Asunaro in 20 minutes or less.
Version 3: Finally, if we can trace a semicircle from horizon to zenith to horizon in one second, that's just shy of sonic speed. (314 m/s = 1130.4 Km/h)
We could go faster, via trying to orbit the circumference in a second, but I recommend against doing so in a populated area, as the resultant sound may be mistaken for gunfire. Plus for our purposes there's not really much need since hitting 1,130 km/h means reaching Asunaro in 13.2 minutes and there's more harm than good in going supersonic. (over 1234 km/h) And note that all numbers here assume Asunaro is 250 km away, on the furthest northwest edge of Akita prefecture. Any closer than that and flight times drop accordingly.
All in all it's three dead simple tests that we can do anywhere as long as we're careful to check for obstructions along the path. Seeing as we know the distance and have enough of it, we don't even need a particularly accurate clock. That's pretty useful I think. Even if we can't match all three speed, the growing lengths, (double, approx triple, approx sextuple) will help a lot to pin down our exact speed. (This assumes of course that the speed we can move grief in relation to ourselves is the same speed we can prove it in relation to the Earth, but that's a fairly reasonable assumption I think.)
3: If we're
not supersonic, can we use Luce Prima as the heat source to make a ramjet? (If we can match or beat 360km/h natively, it may not be
strictly necessary but, hell, it's a
photon powered ramjet. And as far as we can tell it might not even be particularly
witchy. One would think that that's reason enough to do it irrelevant of actual need.)
... You know, I really want to figure out how to teach other girls malleability and Luce Prima enchants now. After all, what's better than
one magical girl with her own hobby aircraft driven via a photon powered ramjet?
Every magical girl having their own hobby aircraft driven via photon powered ramjets. (Really, the only part I don't like is the difficulty in making sure that the reality that ensues from this is a happy one.)
4: Bring our porcelain ball for enchantment practice, see if we can make something pretty out of it. (Recommendation: Classic "grey" alien mask for meeting the Asunaro crew. "Take me to your leader!" and all that.) And hey, if we break it in the process, we get to practice fusing pieces of things together via malleability enchantments.
@vote: I like a lot of the vote, both versions, but I'm a bit leery of the timing: I'd like to leave slack for potential crisis management. (If something's goes wrong like trouble in Asunaro or Kyouko wants/needs a grief seed up front for instance, such as due to failing her hunt tonight.) That's not to say I'm against doing science in the interim, just that I want to keep it light and set aside a little more time. (I'd construct something myself but... this post has gotten... a bit long. In multiple ways.)
