Ah, I was more refuting @mrttao's argument about Ling Qi already knowing her enemies, but I also counter-argue myself that socializing about such would actually help her know the enemies... Probably narrow the field, but not exactly finger the suspects.

We could tell that Bai is an outcast from just taking one look at her and the fact everyone seemed to both dislike and fear her.
we are not socially blind, we in fact are quite decent in social thanks to our life in the street.
Hearing about his creepiness wouldn't have changed anything. there are a TON of creeps, having a list of them is irrelevant unless one of them creeps up on you. And we identified him as a creep the moment we met him. Our interaction with him would have been identical even with a warning
Alright, we could have potentially known that... but that really wouldn't have changed anything. situational would have unfolded the same way. instead we found out he is her fiance when she attacked us (another thing we couldn't reliably expect from rumors)
Anyways, rumors told us that bai would backstab us, that su ling is a filthy primitive beastwoman that would bite us, that tigerboy is a worthless lazy layabout, that we are evil handmaiden of bai, that nerd waifu is worthless and shouldn't bother with her, that Da is an outstanding and noble man who keeps on getting seduced by sluts like Ling Qi...
I seriously doubt the value of rumors, and even if they are perfectly accurate they do not actually change anything. we should focus on cultivation unless someone picks a fight with us

Uh. No? Our social was pretty crappy early on. Still is too at an amazingly low 1 dot. We've got better in some aspects but we're still pretty low. We've basically got as much social skill as we do politics skill which is also at 1 dot.

A politics roll would benefit from the base social stats like manipulation. so thats 4 dice, + auto successes from cultivation level. +reroll from argent soul
And determining that bai is being feared and hated would have been streetwise not politics.
incidentally, grinding more dots in it is less helpful than raising cultivation and increasing our auto successes in everything

Except this isn't the street? How would that apply? These are nobles with whom being on the street should have little interaction except 'Avoid'. Still seems low to me...social dice seem even more critical than combat dice as theres only one check. Combat can happen multiple times and can have comebacks. Everything else we have like double the number of dice. So yeah I think we're low on the social side. Last few checks for social I found only had 4 dice as you said. We usually barely pass them or have to reroll. Much too close for my comfort.
No idea where you'd think Cultivation applies to social but I don't think it's relevant.

1. They are not our "enemies" unless they are actually willing to act against us.
2. We already met the serious players. some scrub low level cowards are irrelevant.
3. Rumors are not going to give us a list (both for meta and IC reasons)
4. Even if we had a list, it would be worthless. Our actions would be the same, train and socialize unless someone starts shit.
Batman would get his shit rekt by anyone with actual power. The only reason he doesn't is plot armor.
Also, I would like to hear what kind of "prep" you have in mind compared to training and leveling up

We'd take the same actions anyways. Our progression route would be the same. Plus Batman has tons of resources at his disposable. Not so much for us. We'll do some recon that's almost a given but I don't think we'll have to fight them for a while.
I know what it meant I was asking how it'd practically help us with applicable knowledge or situations we might have encountered to apply our experience to this type of situation. No need to be condescending. Different environments have different dangers previous knowledge of a different environment can only get you so far. If we're dealing with nobles understanding the politics that are being used are key.
