Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

INTER-OFFICE MEMO

INTER-OFFICE MEMO

To: Mr. Bruce O'Brian, Mr. George Lucas, and Mr. Michael Eisner

From: Mrs. Beatrix Potter, Head of the Merchandising Division

Date: April 22, 1980

Re: Progress Report on the planification of the creation of an Treasure Planet merchandising line.

Dear Mr. O'Brian, Mr. Lucas, and Mr. Eisner,

I am writing to provide a first progress report on the planification of the creation of an Treasure Planet merchandising line, in view of the upcoming release of said film and the great expectations of success about it. The focus of this report is the presentation of projects, completion or abandonment of projects, milestones achieved, tasks planned for the next months, and current roadblocks.

List of completed or abandonned projects and milestones achieved:
  • Action Figures and Playsets:
    • Product Overview: Highly detailed figures of the main characters, such as Jim Hawkins, Captain Amelia, John Silver (with his cybernetic parts), and B.E.N. (the eccentric robot). Each figure come with accessories that reflect the space steampunk universe, like Jim's hoverboard or John Silver's multifunctional robotic arm, sets like the RLS Legacy ship, crescentia or Treasure Planet's surface, complete with interactive elements (e.g., light-up solar sails, hidden compartments, treasure chests) to mimic the ship's futuristic-pirate aesthetic.
Status Update: The last molds are finished and have been sent to the factories.
  • Remote Controler Jim Hawkins' Solar Surfer:
    • Product Overview: A remote-controlled toy based on Jim's iconic solar surfer with LED lights to simulate space flight,a water, air and land version are being worked on.
Status Update: The aquatic and wheel versions work perfectly and are ready but the flying version has been abandoned, the technology to be able to do something like this on an industrial scale without being too expensive or not corresponding to the desired aesthetic is simply not still there.
  • Captain Amelia Body Pillow:
    • Product Overview: A soft, full-length body pillow featuring a detailed, high-quality print of Captain Amelia, the fearless and witty captain, on one side, Amelia pose in her authoritative, confident stance from the movie, while the reverse side show a more relaxed, casual look, perhaps with a softer, warmer expression for a more comforting feel.
Status Update: Although Captain Amelia is the only character popular enough during the test groups to warrant mass preproduction, other designs are ready if feedback on the film proves positive enough.
Task planned for next months:
  • John Silver's Multi-Tool Arm:
    • Product Overview: A wearable toy arm modeled after John Silver's cybernetic arm, featuring different tools that pop out. It include a light-up cannon, grappling hook, and mechanical claw that can actually pick up small objects, allowing for both imaginative and functional play and for older fan a high-end, steampunk-styled, functional replica of the arm with customizable attachments (e.g., extendable claws, mini flashlights), it will be be marketed as a collectible or cosplay accessory.
Status Update: The gripper has been reinforced to be able to support a weight of more than 22 kilograms on the toy version and 45 on the high end one, the next step is to improve the grapple so that it goes further than the current 2 and a half meters.
  • Build-Your-Own Space Ship Kits:
    • Product Overview: Customizable model kits of the RLS Legacy or other ships featured in the film. These come in varying levels of complexity for different age groups. More advanced versions include, motors, working lights for the sails and sound effects.
Status Update: We sent our comments and requests for modifications regarding the plans and models that the boat modeling company "Amati Model" sent us last month, they stated that this would not be a problem and should have the plans modified ready to be sent to us within 15 days.
  • Fashion:
    • Product Overview: Jim's Outfit: Sailing and pirate-inspired fashion with a futuristic twist for kids and adults as well as a line of steampunk-style watches, jewels and accessories based on the film's aesthetics. Kids could dress up as space pirates with costumes featuring light-up buttons, metallic accents, and attachable toy blasters and more practical versions but still inspired by the film costumes like Jim's jacket, long john silver hat or Captain Amelia's uniform.
Status Update: Now that the clothing, accessories and fashion group has finished with the Undertale clothing and accessories they will be able to start work on the Treasure Planet.
Current roadblocks:
  • Interactive Adventure Map & Treasure Hunt Kit:
    • Product Overview: A "Treasure Planet" map that works with a light projector to simulate a treasure hunt adventure. Kids can use it to follow clues and "unlock" different star systems and locations, much like Jim's journey in the film,it include a "treasure hunting" kit with a replica of Jim's sphere map, glow-in-the-dark compass, and tools for kids to "dig" up small hidden treasures or clues to secret codes.
Status Update: The mini projector is still much too fragile for a child's toy, they were finally decided to stop trying to make the current design more solid and to start from scratch while cutting less costs.
  • Treasure Planet-Themed Science Kits:
    • Product Overview: Educational kits themed around space exploration and technology inspired by the world of "Treasure Planet." These include building small solar-powered spaceships, telescopes for stargazing, or learning about different planets and star systems, hologram devices, teaching basic concepts of navigation and exploration.
Status Update: The project is very late, due to health problems in the team, additional workers have been added to try to catch up with the schedule.
  • Solar Surfer Windsurfing Sailboard:
    • Product Overview: A real-life windsurfing sailboard inspired by Jim Hawkins' solar surfer. The sailboard feature a futuristic, space-pirate design, with an aerodynamic board shaped like Jim's in the movie. The sail have a translucent, shimmering finish with patterns that evoke solar sails from the film, for added flair, LED lights embedded in the sail light up in different colors, mimicking the energy trails from Jim's solar surfer making the sailboard visually stunning, especially during dawn or dusk windsurfing sessions.
Status Update: We are still encountering significant aquadynamic problems, it may prove necessary to go above budget and hire an external consultant.
  • :Constellation Projector
    • Product Overview: A themed projector that lights up the ceiling with constellations and space scenes from "Treasure Planet." It could show animated sequences of Jim and the crew navigating through space, the RLS Legacy flying through star clusters, or planets from the movie and the Sphere Map projection.
Status Update: Same problem than with the Interactive Adventure Map & Treasure Hunt Kit if on a lesser extend.
Please let me know if you require any further information or clarification on these matters.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Beatrix Potter
Head of the Merchandising Division

By the way guys, I am not too happy about the writing of the name and general writing of the "Sega Arcade Saloon Extravaganza" so if anyone can make suggestions to improve it I will be pretty happy...

I have a question, right now we are currently releasing about a movie per month, and though it may have served us well so far, at the same time I feel that it limits on the amount of movies that we have pitches for and could very well release if we had the opportunity. So, perhaps we can do something to release two movies per month, or at the very least make it so that the Ardmore Films and the Animated films can be released at the same time with other regular movies?

I think we can release more than one movie at a time, there's certainly nothing stopping us. It's just that our production rate has done it so that we can do one movie per month. However, with the delay caused by Empire along with new directors and more animated movies coming up, we will likely do two movies per month in '84 and '85

By the way Overmind, would you be willing to add the Sega Arcades to your plan? I feel like that's a nice way to promote our video games while everything else on the competing plan is more frivolous expenses.

[X] Plan Expand! Expand! Expand

everything else on the competing plan is more frivolous expenses.
We have more than $12 billion on the warchest, what you consider "frivolous expenses" amounts to 2.9% of that...

I admit that they are not essential projects, but they are undoubtedly nice to have things that will give us valuable bonus, and that we are getting without spending any AP on them or risking the Magoose Dice screwing us over... So why not take them?

No prob. I'll add them now.

Doesn't make them any less frivolous.

Hey @Magoose are we going to get another reaction to Lucasfilms new money spree? Also what is the reputation now that Star Wars is done I suppouse the trekies hate Bruce along with every person involved in Star Wars for winning the sci-fi war

Why? Are you saying that none of those projects will give us bonuses that will be useful for LucasArts as a company?

How is that frivolous then? We are investing a rather minimal amount of our funds in things that will give us a nice return...

Comparatively getting the rights from Debbie's films from MGM was a much more frivolous expense, and we still did it...

potentially, really it depends on how I'm feeling.

@Magoose Can we get a nice sound stage since we definitely have the money and LA County will likely be more amenable to us or else they'd risk Bruce getting heavily invested in local elections come '84?

Also in regards to MGM Cartoon Studio, I think there's a case where we can purchase that because that studio has been shut down for 26 years and it would be too costly for Kerkorian to open it up while he lacks the talent and funds to commit to it on being equal to Disney, Dreamworks or even Blue Sky.

Another idea towards a funding is maybe we can have a Funimation style dubbing studio to dub our movies and shows into other langauges to help support global distribution. It could be really effective with anime, especially with Dragonball Z later down the line and how it dominates Latin America. How much would that cost Magoose?

There should be a point where the amount of IP under our control reaches a metaphorical critical mass. After which the action to at least get the ball rolling on building Dreamland should be created. And, as far as I'm concerned, the worst consequence of failing it should be "George hasn't been convinced yet".
