Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Well, I disagree about our purchase power...
We have loads and loads of money, but the dice keeps giving us single digits in both our main roll and our reroll, and increasing our bonus from 30 to 40-60 would make much easier any new purchases (orbat least mirigate the Magoose Dice)...

Another thing is that Magoose always seems to forget about the +30 bonus and reroll in all our negotiations rolls, but even when we remind it to him and he applies them we have rolled so badly that it doesn't make much of a difference.
That wasn't my point, my point was why take an action to boost the legal team if, as your initial response implies, the fault doesn't inherently lie in the legal team.

Why do we need to improve Legal further? We already have a +30 plus a dice reroll. It's pretty great stuff and it hasn't failed us yet. It just seems like pursuit of making the bonus big enough where it's impossible to fail and that's a little bit overkill and a major pump of money for something we already did last year. Also I don't think Legal is meant to represent us in buying out intellectual rights or properties, it should be for defending Lucasfilms in court battles against plaintiffs outside or within the company.

TV Pitch: The Immortal Iron Fist
Well, here it is, the continuation for the future of Marvel TV Shows. now, while it may look like OTL Iron Fist show, I've made some changes where I think will make the experience a bit more unique and definitely not as annoying as what marvel gave us OTL. For starters, I've made sure to add more episodes that will allow for better character development for the Main characters rather than limiting everything to just a few episodes. And with a proper fight coordinator as well as stuntmen, we can also make sure the fights are actually well choreographed instead of kindergarten play acting that we were given.

I think I need to add how I utterly loathe OTL Iron Fist TV Show, how I forced myself to watch it, and consider it an assault on the sense, a misrepresentation of the character, and one of the worst paced, worst acted, worst written shows I've ever had the misfortune to lay eyes upon and waste my time with.

Mostly, what I want this TV Show to do, is follow a pacing and theme closer to Arrow as I feel that it would have benefited from following said set up. It also helps in introducing some new Martial Arts tropes that we have yet to have introduced on TV (unless you count Kung Fu), and keep on working the lore from behind the scenes.

Thus, I give you:

TV Pitch:
The Immortal Iron Fist

GENRE: Action/Drama/Martial Arts

SUBGENRE: Crime/Mystery

FORMAT: TV Show

Set Up: Based on the Marvel Comics character Iron Fist, created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. The Story follows Danny Rand, a martial arts expert with the ability to call upon a mystical power which he trained in the mystical city of K'un-Lun. After returning from being presumed missing, he embarks on a legal battle to have his name and property restored to him. Yet it's all a front, as he uses the investigation to look into the people who are guilty for killing his father, while he prowls the night fighting against the organized crime in the city with the secret identity and power of the Iron Fist. unaware however, is that "The Hand" an international mystical/criminal organization, is spreading its influence in New York, and his actions have put him in their sights.

Showrunner: Jerry Thorpe
Composer: Lalo Schifrin

Season Length: 23 Episodes
Episode Length: 45-48 Minutes

Danny Rand is the son of Wendell Rand (an entrepreneur, CEO and Co-founder of Rand Enterprises) who was declared missing and presumed dead after the disappearance of him and his father during a plane trip through the Himalayas. Danny however survived thanks to his father giving up his life for him to reach the Hidden City of K'un-Lun, leaving him to be trained under the Monks and warriors under the tutelage of Nu-An, the son of Yu Ti Lord Tuan, where he meets his best friend, Davos.

Danny eventually returns to New York in order to find the truth about his father's death, remembering how before dying his father had told him he'd had enemies who would benefit from this. Danny returns to find his father's old partner, Harold Meachum, and his children who'd he'd known as a child...only to find the Meachum family in full control of Rand Enterprises (now named Rand-Meachum Inc.). Danny doesn't seem to care as he instead investigates them from afar, while also making his way into Chinatown in Manhattan, looking for a new place to live.

Danny gets involved in underground fights to make ends meet, where he gets into the sight of the "Golden Tigers Guild", a Mercenary/Triad organization that sells their services for the right price. Danny, after some brief conflict, forms a business relationship where he buys information from them as he investigates those who may have been involved in his father's death, as well as going after criminals and those the info tells him were involved in the accident, disguising and calling himself the "Fist".

During one of his outings, Danny meets Colleen Wing, a student of his father's Dojo, whom he befriends and trains with, both of them growing closer (Much to her father's consternation), eventually learning of his quest and joining him as support. Meanwhile, the Meachums discover that Danny is still alive when he accidentally runs into Joy Meachum, who at first accuses him of being an impostor. Harold grabs on to the idea, trying to discredit him, while Danny contacts his family's lawyer, Jeryn Hogarth, in order to file a lawsuit to prove himself the true Danny Rand, and thus heir to his properties.

During the series, Danny will be both, trying to find the ones responsible for the murder of his father while also fighting crime, and also dealing with the Meachums to prove his identity as he faces their many attempts at sabotaging his arguments, evidence, or even sending assassins against him. At the same time, flashbacks of his previous experiences in K'un-Lun will be shown, giving a better look into how he became the Iron Fist, the many lessons he learnt (which could also be applied to the challenge at hand during the episode).

At the halfway point, it is revealed that the Meachums have the support of "The Hand", an international organization which is spreading its influence thanks to Rand International and other proxies. Led by Madame Gao, she sends her enforcer, Kabuto, to take down the Iron Fist, which he nearly does, leading to Danny's first defeat and retreat, having to recover both from his injuries and his spirit to take the fight back. The Meachums themselves change due to the interactions with The Hand; Harold and Joy turn ever more to clandestine and dubious actions, while Ward has a change of heart and turns to Danny's side in a redemption arc.

With the eventual defeat of the Hand, Madame Gao sets their final plan; if they can't have New York, then no one will. They hide bombs around New York which will sink the entire city. Danny and the allies he's made work together to find and deactivate them, having to fight the Hand's champion along the way, culminating with a rematch between Iron Fist and Kabuto, one that Danny wins this time around.

The city's been saved, though it's been damaged from the Hand's final strike. Danny wins the court case in the final episode; his identity is confirmed as the Meachums go to prison (though Ward remains free thanks to a deal he cut). In the final flashback, it's shown how Danny gained the power of the Iron Fist (despite not wanting any of it), and how he was sent from K'un-Lun in search of Davos, his best friend, when he killed the Lord of K'un-Lun, Lord Tuan.

In the night, by the light of the moon, with the city still in chaos and with police trying to contain the aftershocks of the Hand's failed plan, a young woman is walking home when she is accosed by thieves. They get the shock of their lives when she manhandles them like they were children.
Daniel "Danny" Rand: He is the son of Wendell Rand, the CEO of Rand Enterprises. Rand lost his father to Harold Meachum's treachery, which resulted with the young Rand being rescued by monks and taken to K'un-Lun where he trained and accidentally took the title of the Iron Fist. Rand returned to New York City to claim back his name and soon fell into conflict with the Hand. Though he is a stern, disciplined, and responsible man thanks to his training, he's also jovial, fun loving, and with a deep desire for friendship and companionship. He also shows a very intelligent, calculating, and tactical approach to each of his exploits.

Played By: Brandon Lee
Alternate: William Zabka

Colleen Wing: She is a martial arts expert who helps her father runs a dojo in Chinatown, teaching self-defense lessons to disadvantaged youths. She helps Danny Rand to adapt upon his return and aided him in his self-imposed mission to find the men responsible for his father's death, as well as helping him fight the Hand when the time came. Colleen Wing tends to try and fix her own problems on her own, though she, like Danny, learns to depend on others when things get too rough, like when her father was kidnapped by Kabuto in order to better manipulate her and induct her into the Hand.

Played By: Yammie Lam
Alternate: Cherie Chung

Harold Meachum: He is a ruthless businessman who helped build up Rand Enterprises with his dear friend Wendell Rand. However Meachum's greed led him to make a deal with Madame Gao and the Hand to have the Rands murdered, expanding their reach through New York, as well as his own. Upon the return of Danny Rand, who was now the Iron Fist, Harold tried every trick, both legal and illegal, to have him removed and maintain control over the company. Eventually, he was forced to use the service of The Hand once more. When he became superfluous to their plans they tried to have him killed, only to be saved by Danny's allies.

Played By: Dick Van Dyke
Alternate: Tim Conway

Joy Meachum: She is the daughter of Harold Meachum; who together with her brother, Ward, spent her life building Rand Enterprises to its current position. But upon Danny Rand's return, the Meachum siblings saw their work put in jeopardy as Rand planned to claim his birthright in the company itself. Joy has a steely strong personality, is an expert detective and extremely resourceful. Every time she wants something done; she proves that she is more capable of it than even her brother. Her dedication and commitment to the company, and her father, leads her to taking extreme actions, like trying to drug Danny, and kidnapping him.

Played By: Wendy Kilbourne
Alternate: Terri Garber

Ward Meachum: He is the son of Harold Meachum, and a member of the Board in Rand Enterprises, put there as "Heir Apparent". Ward carries himself with an arrogant, rude, condescending, and confident air and can come across as spiteful and mean. However, behind it, Ward is in truth a weak-willed man who suffers from an inferiority complex as he can see his sister being better than him, and never getting any support for his own activities and wants. Ward eventually assisted with finally stopping his father's schemes, building up a friendship with Rand while his relationship with his sister suffered.

Played By: Keith Carradine
Alternate: Scott Bakula
Yu-Ti Lord Tuan: He is the first Yu-Ti and ruler of the mystical city of K'un-Lun. Lord Tuna was a dispenser of wisdom among its citizens and warriors, often hiding himself and giving advice to Danny when he failed, or was bullied by the others for being different. Lord Tuan was the First Lord of Yu Ti, and thus quite old even by humanity's standards, and was in charge of selecting those who were worthy of participating in the ritual to gain the power of the Immortal Iron Fist. He is killed by Davos when the latter fled the city after being denied the chance to be the next Iron Fist. He is only seen in Flashbacks

Played By: Khigh Dhiegh
Alternate: Benson Fong

Nu-An: He is the son of the Yu Ti Lord Tuan, and the trainer of the future generation of warriors from K'un-Lun. He usually trained both Davos and Danny Rand, pitting them against each other as he saw the potential each of them carried within. Despite being harsh he was also fair, wanting to see them grow beyond their limits. He put the needs of the city above everything however, and thus put both their names for the chance to become the next iron Fist, despite Danny's desire to leave the city. He was made the new Yu Ti after the death of his father, and made a deal with Danny, allowing him to leave if he agreed to chase after Davos. He is only seen in Flashbacks.

Played By: Tony Leung Chiu-wai
Alternate: Jackie Chan

Davos: He is the son of the previous Iron Fist, Lei Kung, as well as Danny's best friend in K'un-Lun. Davos' wish was to succeed his father to become the Iron Fist, but grew jealous and angry when Danny was selected to take on the mantle. After an attempt at taking the power, and having to be saved by Danny, he kills Lord Tuan in order to create an exit and leave K'un-Lun. Growing up, both he and Danny had been inseparable, sharing all kinds of secrets and training tips, which is why Danny, when given the chance to leave and hunt him down, accepts, but spends most of his time in New York.

Played By: Jet Li
Alternate: Donnie Yen

Jeryn Hogarth: He is a brilliant lawyer and businessman who worked for Rand-Meachum Inc. and was a close friend to Wendell Rand. After Wendell's death, Jeryn became the executor of his estate. After meeting Danny, he put him under surveillance to verify that he was truly Wendell's son. Once his identity was confirmed, Hogarth organized a meeting to discuss the return of Danny's father's half of their common enterprise to its rightful inheritor, and when refused began a legal battle to have Danny receive his full inheritance. He is unaware of Danny's using of his research to find criminals, as well as those who could have killed his father.

Played By: William Shatner
Alternate: Richard Chamberlain
Madame Gao: She is the leader of The Hand's operations in New York, and an accomplished master of mystical techniques which she can use to defend herself and attack those who go against her. She manipulates events around her, using subordinates, to fight against the Iron Fist, and eventually abandoning the city when she finds the situation no longer retrievable. She holds the loyalty and fear of those who work under her, and the respect of those who work with her.

Played By: Yoko Shimada
Alternate: Miiko Taka

Bakuto: He is a member of the Hand, and the direct subordinate of madame Gao. Bakuto has been trained in the mystical and martial arts from the Hand, and has the dubious honor of being the only person whose faced the previous Iron Fist and lived (there's even rumors that Bakuto was able to kill him). He handles Danny with ease when they face each other for the first time, causing a spiritual crisis in Danny. When they faced the second time though, Danny was victorious.

Played By: Jim Kelly
Alternate: Mr. T

Master Khan: He is a rogue operative of The Hand who stole mystical secrets in order to achieve immortality by making a pact with a demonic entity known only as "The Beast". His defeat and death at the hands of the Iron Fist is what clues The Hand in as to what they are facing, inadvertedly warning them about their greatest threat. Master Khan is arrogant, yet also disciplined, as he knows the dangers of trying to bargain with a demon.

Played By: David Carradine
Alternate: Mitchell Ryan

Death Sting: She is the protegee of Madame Gao. no one knows her real name nor origin, though many notice that she seems to know, and despise, the city of K'un-Lun for some reason. Under the orders of Madame Gao, she investigates and spies for the Meachums against Danny Rand, yet on occasional interactions with him, there seems to be bond forming between them, almost familiar, even though they have never met before.

Played By: Rosamund Kwan
Alternate: Rachel Lee
Robert Hao/Chaka Khan - He is the crime lord of the Golden Tigers Guild. He led the Golden Tigers in taking advantage of the power vacuum left by the arrest of Wilson Fisk and "Cottonmouth". He also served his services to different sides, including Danny at some point. He was killed by the Hand when he refused to subordinate to them.

Played By: Soon-tek Oh

Thomas Arn/Chaka: He is a former judo instructor and the new crime lord of the Golden Tigers Guild, becoming an enemy of Iron Fist after his ascension thanks to The Hand. Thomas is an ambitious man who is not content with the time that Robert Hao was taking in dominating New York's underworld, preferring to join the Hand in doing so.

Played By: Clyde Kusatsu

Teng the Scythe: A member of the Golden Tigers that worked for Chaka Khan. He and Tommy are brothers, each of them mastering a martial art that complements the other when fighting together. Teng, as his title mentions, prefers using a scythe when fighting. He and his brother are enforcers who are sent to fight when called for.

Played By: Michael Dudikoff

Tommy the Scimitar: A member of the Golden Tigers that worked for Chaka Khan. He and Teng are brothers, each of them mastering a martial art that complements the other when fighting together. Tommy, as his title mentions, prefers using a scimitar when fighting. He and his brother are enforcers who are sent to fight when called for.

Played By: Leslie Cheung
Lei Kung: He was the Previous Iron Fist. The father of Davos and protector of the city of K'un-Lun up until his mysterious death. Only appears in Flashbacks and mentions of him.

Played By: Cheung Wing-Fat

Shou-Lao the Undying: The mystical dragon powering K'un-Lun. He was captured and imprisoned after he attempted to kill the Yu Ti when the city was recently founded. He is also part of the ritual to gain the powers of the Iron Fist.

Voiced By: Frank Welker

Wendell Rand: The father of Danny Rand and the founder of Rand Enterprises. Wendell died bringing his son to safety near the borders of K'un-Lun. He believed he'd been set up to kill both of them, something that Danny heard and believes. Appears only in flashbacks.

Played By: Bill Bixby

Lee Wing: He is the father of Colleen Wing, the owner and head of the Dojo where she works at. He usually worried about her daughter hanging around Danny Rand, and is somewhat hostile towards him.

Played By: Robert Ito

Ninja: A mercenary hired through the Golden Tigers Guild and fought off by the Iron Fist when he was trying to kill Jeryn Hogarth. No information is known about him.

Played By: Tony Leung Ka Fai

A.N.: So, with this I'm hoping I can start with the next project. Iron Fist is an interesting character that has yet to receive the love and proper attention that I think deserves. Plus, I feel that if this series, we could perhaps do an anthology in the future where we can show the different Iron Fists through the ages, seeing what they did, how they interacted with others, etc. I also made sure to include actors from Hong Kong when possible in order to keep with the source material when it comes to the characters.

The Immortal Iron Fist
I think a cool idea would be that, during the flashback sequences, we do something a little different to imply it's the past. Instead of just using a filter and title card indicating as such, we get the makeup and prop department to go heavy on cel shading to make the set and actors look like it was pulled directly from a comic book, ala:

I figure it's a cool look that, if utilized properly, can be used to stand out during this time period and pays homage to the source material and heavily lean into it how memories and perspective can be weird.

That wasn't my point, my point was why take an action to boost the legal team if, as your initial response implies, the fault doesn't inherently lie in the legal team.
The fault doesn´t inherently lie within the legal team, but upgrading it gives us a better bonus which is useful in every negotiation, including business acquisitions and adaptation rights negotiation.

This is strictly for gameplay reasons, nothing more nothing less...
It is rich that a man who wanted to pay $1.5 billion for Marvel says that $250 million is overkill :V...

But more seriously, we are extremely rich, we want to buy loads of stuff, and the legal team explicitly helps us in all future negotiations (not only our legal battles), so spending $250 million to get a 10-30 extra bonus is not only affordable but an extremely solid investment...
Reward: Lucasfilm Legal has been created.

All future negotiations, in any facet, will have a +30 to all their rolls… and all failures for negotiations now get a reroll.

[X] Plan Charity and Legalese

Definitely need the expansion of our legal department. The bonus seems to most often be triggered by purchasing IPs and companies. And when going after other companies. So far, the price of failing a roll can be rough. So, a larger bonus would really be helpful. Especially since the two times we did refill, the actions still rolled failures.

So…

I have but one thing to ask before the vote is called.

Do you dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?

So, Mike had a plan that involved a lot of fluff words that went something like: "The initial phase involves conducting market research to assess TSR, Inc.'s current market position and potential synergies. A financial assessment will follow to evaluate the company's valuation, assets, and revenue streams. Strategic alignment will be identified, focusing on how the acquisition can enhance Lucasfilm's existing intellectual properties. Legal and regulatory considerations will be addressed to ensure a smooth acquisition process. A detailed integration plan will be developed-". You know, making it pretty for the lawyers.

Hey guys, what do you think of making a deal with Jin Yong for the rights of his wuxia novels? He is one of the most popular wuxia author, and his novels have been adapted countless times, continuing adaptation even now. If we make a deal now and make Lucasfilms the one to bring that into the West, we could perhaps make quite the sum of money, even more if we use Hing Kong actors to better adapt them as well.

That it would be pretty awesome, but with China wanting to kill us it is unlikely to happen in this decade...

I reject this idea on principle. I fucking hate wuxia shit and have yet to come across literally a single one that I didn't end up thinking was a poorly written, unoriginal, overcrowded, steaming pile of dogshit. I understand that this is not necessarily the prevailing attitude and if the thread goes with it, then whatever, but I personally will absolutely oppose it.

Yeah, but I think Jin Yong is living in Hong Kong at this point, so we could perhaps make a deal with him before China gets it back.

Yeah, Wuxia is shit when it's done bad, but Jin Yong's novels were like the Prototype and masterpiece when ti came to the model. His characters are actually fun when you get to read them. Sure, the tropes are so used nowadays that they would be cliched though.

Please don't let anyone actually die this turn. I don't want Bruce's family to suffer and it's a stretch for Bruce to be having all of these near death experiences when lots of celebrities at his level OTL didn't have a single brush with death.
