So anyway
Let's start brainstorming ideas for the Utility cruser

I'm thinking...

Beeger Kelvin type.
(That design is COOL okay?)

Edit: to clarify, the Kelvin's saucer is pretty obviously only like two decks tall. And not especially large in radius. I'm thinking significantly larger saucer (4+ decks, or even 5, given how chonky our fancy tech is getting) plus a larger engineering hull (that is, closer in volume to the underslung single Nacelle, though a Miranda style skids arrangement might also work; I mainly want a single Nacelle for cost reasons. Warp Coils are expensive!)

Star Trek: Lower Decks confirms that they do actually have pockets :V

Much more elegant than STO's solution :V

(Random Images I took from google, they don't really show what I'm trying to talk about that well though)

In STO if you want, regardless of faction, you can load your character up with a bunch of sci-fi metallic bandoleers, wrist straps, shoulder plates etc.

Why would you take the Saladin and make it worse with that derpy looking top-mounted secondary hull?!
We're going to have to disagree on that, the top hull does a lot to visually balance the design. I'd be even better if said hull was about a third again as long, so it's closer to the length of the Nacelle. I mean, just look at it, it looks fast even if it probably isn't (because, y'know, one nacelle.) and it's just a slick design.

The fact that it doesn't connect to the nacelle raises the question of why the secondary hull even exists to begin with when they could just making the saucer bigger instead.

I believe Sayle said we're not getting any single-nacelle designs.

I mean really, the Kelvin type is a great ship; really shows off how a single Nacelle design can work (unlike the poor Saladin, which I absolutely agree is a goof of a design)

How can you call this slick thing "goofy"?
(Incidentally I am really happy to have found that last pic because brace for Mockup lads)

Honestly the single nacelle design would work better if starfleet ships tended to be a little less round, and a bit more angular.

It is goofy, why is the secondary hull twice the size of the nacelle? Why does the secondary hull even exist since it does not connect to anything? If you have the ability to make stable warp fields using one nacelle, why not build a second as redundancy on what is supposed to be a workhorse? And many other questions that need to be answered. Also, I think it looks dumb. Sorry, not sorry.

My thing with most single-nacelle designs is that the nacelle juts out so damn far. If it were tucked a little tighter towards the primary hull, I'd find them a lot more fetching.

Utility Cruiser should be a half-saucer, again, because its role is a combination of patrol ship + occasional troubleshooting. It should be nimble, and it might give us more wiggle room to play silly buggers with the nacelles and shuttle bay instead of ROUND.

But more importantly, I don't want us to find an excuse to just go Saucer with every spaceframe, I want a variety of spaceframes! I've come around to the Brahe because the nacelles make it have a fairly distinct look, but I don't think it'll be a great idea to just effectively copy the frame almost verbatim, when manueverability is going to be fairly important with our Utility Cruiser, and it doesn't need to stack ALL THE SCIENCE like the Brahe is either.

If we're throwing ideas (with two nacelles) out the Nebula is like an advanced Miranda and if the support for the upper pylon also merged down into the saucer with a forward angle I think the side profile would be awesome. As long as it didn't go so far forward to cut into the shuttle entrance it's good and I don't remember any saucer separation mode being a thing for this class. I'm not sure why but I like this more than the thick back half on the Miranda. The front view is a bit busy and YMMV but it's a lot of ship.
