[X] Yes

I feel bad for Boris and have gained immense respect for him.

Well, it's definitely understandable why he would offer this, and maybe "insulting" is not the right word in this case, since he didn't mean it like an insult. Still, I think he judged our character as more of an assassin for hire than a person with principles. What I meant here is that we are not actually getting much out of this deal. We shouldn't even consider whether the Waystone project will be better or worse off based on this decision. What we are actually intersted in is the bigger picture. We would do it for free if we knew 100% that it would benefit Kislev and the Empire. I think that we should show this to Boris, at the very least. Currently he has a completely wrong understanding of us. And that proves that he can be wrong about some things, and might not know what other avenues of solving the problem we personally could bring. I mean, maybe all our influence is still not enough. But I don't think that anybody even stopped to think of alternative solutions, and that's definitely wrong, in my book.
But he is not offering support for waystone project as payment, that is something that he would do no matter what once he becomes tzar. He literally told us that we should say our price, and it will be paid.

If you have a price, or your Order has a price, or your Emperor has a price, it will be paid."

Well, now I know what I want to do in the next Warhammer Vampire Quest. Necrorunes all the way.
There is also Verenan priests who can cast as spell that forces people to answer truthfully to an accusation. It probably what an Empire Noble would go for if they are trying to act above the board when they try to make a Grey Wizard talk.

And that is on top of my head as well. A deep dive would probably turn up a few other ways as well. For example if there is no truth potion somewhere it is probably because writers forgot about it.

I'm just gonna say what Boris' rule could look like, obviously not true canon to this quest since the world has changed and the butterflies let loose:
Kislev's history is blighted by many awful leaders throughout its past – and Tzar Boris is certainly not amongst them. A formidable figure in every regard, he is famed as an implacable warlord and a cultural reformer. His faith in the gods of Kislev, and the revival of the Cult of Ursun, has made him popular with the pious, while his militaristic nature gives him significant sway with the soldiery. Though the Great War of Chaos was outside of living memory, its scars remained visible, and Boris has long laboured to ready his beloved Motherland against the rising threat.
From the TW3 game.

Sounds like the kind of guy that we'd prefer sooner on the throne rather than later.

Hey now Mathide has more complex principles than than. It goes:

Fuck Vampires!
Ranald is bestest!
Fuck Chaos!
Yay Dorfs!
Fuck orcs!
BÖÖK!
Teclis Sempai!

:V
Yeah, but fuck chaos is the relevant one for this situation and the best way to fuck chaos is to have a Kislev that can defend itself from the north and is implementing the waystone project's results on a national level, both the small scale stuff and the large.

Like the nation that needs it the most is Kislev, its the largest, its the one that's furthest to the north and it likely empowers them through their ice witchy nonsense.

has changed and the butterflies let loose:
Didn't want to bring up so definitely take with salt, but while it is true the butterflies have flown, this isn't a Franz situation. Boris has been on that path since long before Mathilde set foot in Kislev AFAICT.

As it stands I'm more inclined to ask for nothing, so there is no thing to query in terms of "why was Mathilde given [bug shiny thing of coolness]"

It makes sense for Kislev to try and preserve its libraries if it believes it'll be attacked by an Everchosen. Making copies with a Dawi library isn't particularly suspicious and the Mathilde connection can be easily explained through the Waystone Project and Mathilde saving Vlag.

Having a favour hanging over Boris is going to be more stressful for him than demanding something reasonable.

Can we really? It would be our word against his and Vlad does not like witches.

I mean considering that Mathilde is a supernaturally effective assassin there's at least a very obvious reason why Boris wouldn't want to betray us.

Yeah, but I think TW-canon also ranks pretty low in Boney's order of canon, so even without the butterflies this needn't be true.

But it's a nice vision to look at, and improve with Mathilde's help.
