Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Beverly Hills Noir

Each step you took within the Beverly Hills Police Department felt like you were drowning in quick sand as you, Carrie and Todd were escorted to an interview room to speak with a detective of the ongoing investigation surrounding Debbie's robbery and near homicide. The entire trip from the hospital you had your arm wrapped fiercely around Carrie in a protective embrace, the two of you never leaving each other's side except for restroom breaks after you arrived for the hospital. Todd walked on your other side, doing his best to stand tall and strong, but standing so close to the edge of breaking.

The near death of their mother had been an incredibly hard experience for the Fisher siblings. Carrie had spiraled into depression, her grief being accelerated by her mental condition. What kept Carrie from going over the edge was your constant and unending love and support, providing a lifeline that slowly pulled her back to shore from the constant shows of support from friends, past coworkers, your side of the family, and millions of fans across the nation who showed their support of Debbie Reynolds.

Todd did his best to play the role of the strong and silent man of the family, staying confident and positive as he usually was in times of crisis, but this time was far too much for the poor teen. When Carrie went to give a statement to the media, Todd collapsed into your arms and cried his heart out, the first time you had ever seen Todd cry as he then admitted he didn't want to ever be weak for Debbie and Carrie. When your wife returned, you helped the siblings to have an honest heart to heart with Todd unleashing a lot of grief he built up over the years and Carrie for a first being a pillar for her brother.

Todd's state could perfectly describe yourself, as you had done your best to be strong for your wife and brother-in-law, to act as a light and shepherd in their time of darkness. Darkly, your Dad's near death experience provided some sort of foundation for you to be strong, and you were often too angry and furious to truly be lost in depression. Those and your faith helped to see you through, but with little sleep and no sign of justice going soon, you felt like you were on the verge of collapse.

'Is this my curse? Will I drag everyone I love down to the pits of despair and suffering with each step I take upward in success?'

First Dad, then you, then Debbie. Gun violence was supposed to be rare for your average American, and you experienced three instances over the past two years. Who else in your family would be gunned down? Would your children bear the curse and become targets? It was a dark train of thoughts that threatened to swallow you whole, only your love keeping your sanity at bay.

The only good news was that yesterday Debbie had regained consciousness. While she was heavily weak, she was mentally sound and incredibly joyous to have her children and you by her side. Each day provided small increments of recovery, but recovery was waiting nonetheless.

The only thing that was left was to catch the bastards responsible and lock them for life, something you hoped could make progress today even though you wanted to be anywhere but the stuffy and cramped atmosphere of a police station.

The three of you filed into the room, being greeted with a well dressed police officer in a beige suit with a fedora that looked like someone ripped straight from a 40's Pulp Noir. "Good afternoon Mr. and Mrs. O'Brian, Mr. Fisher. My name is Detective Cole, and I'll be conducting the interview today." The Detective greeted with a stretched hand, the three of you giving lazy handshaks as you took your seats across from the officer.

"Now the purpose of this visit today is to inquire about any potential information you may feel will best solve this case. Please, do contribute when you think you can, no detail no matter how minor is irrelevant and the more we know the sooner we can catch the bastards responsible. Since this is a time of great stress, please feel free to go at your own pace and if you are feeling overwhelmed, we can pause and restart at a later period." Cole said, seeming like a decent and empaphetic man.

"With all due respect detective, we'd like to get this done as soon as possible." Carrie affirmed, wearing her discomfort on her sleeve.

"Of course, just respond as best you can. Before I begin questioning, I shall present to you three our timeline of events and all we know of the case so far to help better give you a picture of what's going on." Cole said. After a period of silence, he continued further.

"On the morning of August 11th, 1975, Miss Debbie Reynolds was residing at her home at Beverly Hills on 814 Greenway Drive. At approximately From 7:40 to 7:50 am, one of our suspects is believed to have climbed the brick wall permiter and interact with the manual controls for the gate, allowing a white chevrolet cargo van to come onto the premises. From Miss Reynolds account, four men of various builds partook in the burglary of her home, two white, one black, and the fourth of indeterminate race. The quartet searched through the house in primary pursuit of Miss Reynolds' hollywood memorabilia collection. When Miss Reynolds observed the break-in she used a bat and attempted to ward them off of her collection."

"WHAT?!" Carrie shouted, stunning you and Todd as her sad demeanor transformed to utter rage, "WE ALMOST LOST HER BECAUSE OF SOME FUCKING SOUVENIRS!" Carrie ranted furiously.

"Carrie-" Todd moved to comfort, with his hand smacked by her.

"She almost died, she almost left us because of some Goddamn movie props and costumes Todd, she cared more about that then her own life, HER CHILDREN!" Carrie yelled, slamming her fist hard on the table.

You immediately hugged Carrie tightly, constantly whispering her comforts and assurances which helped to calm her down as she sobbed into your arms, Todd and Cole watching on silently.

"Carebear, when we're presented with dangerous scenarios, our fight or flight begins. Sometimes we chose fight. I didn't have to get shot last year, but I chose to jump in front of the bullet and throw a punch." You said calmingly.

"That's different! You were saving someone's life! I don't give a shit if we never see any of those props or if they're lost to history. If I had to chose between erasing all copies of Some Nights or Mom, I'd chose Mom every time!" Carrie whined, then crying further into your arms, yourself releasing a few silent tears.

It took a while for Carrie to come down, but eventually her tears dried and her flames of anger whittled down. "I'm sorry for that." Carrie apologized, then blowing her stuffed nose into a tissue, a box having fortunately been standing by.

"It's quite alright Mrs. O'Brian. It's not the first time I've seen such a reaction and in robberies or muggings, you will find many victims who have attempted to fight back no matter how great or inconsequential the items stolen are, it's a natural response." Detective Cole assured. "Would you like to take more time."

"No, please continue." Carrie requested, with Cole nodding.

"She managed to injure one of the burglars with a few good hits to their back, right shoulder and arm, and then was shortly unfortunately shot five times across her upper body with a 9mm pistol. The suspects are then believed to have quickly grabbed as much as they could and drove off a few minutes later at what is believed to be 8:07 A.M with over $90,000 worth of memorabilia. She bled on the floor for more than half an hour, and Mr. Fisher here arrived at 8:45 and upon noticing the state of Miss Reynolds, called 9-1-1." Cole said, with Todd absently nodding.

"Now Mr. Fisher, in questioning you said that you were arriving from your girlfriend's house where you spent the night, is that correct?" Cole pressed further.

"Yeah, her family and ours are friends and sometimes I spend the night. God, I wanted to sleep in well past noon or just lounge around, but Donna kept on pushing me to head home, said she had a feeling Mom was missing me. If she wasn't so stubborn, I would have never gone..." Todd said, his voice drifting out at recalling the traumatic events.

You and Carrie both owed a great deal of debt to Todd and Donna for helping to save Debbie's life. The two of you would not have been in any position to help as you were at Lucasfilms at the time and Carrie was sleeping in . The two of you were supposed to go for breakfast since you usually shared them for Mondays, but Carrie had pushed the family meals to the end of the week. Maybe if you were there you could have beat the shit out of the burglars or grabbed one of their guns and shot them, or maybe you and Carrie would have gotten shot, or any one of you killed. So many what-ifs, you had to remind yourself firmly that Debbie was awake and alive, but with every second it felt like she was dead.

"After the suspects drove off, eyewitness reports indicate the van driving to Silver Lake, where they traveled to a film storage warehouse where they loaded the stolen items into a U-Haul moving van. The location was likely chosen to masquerade their burglarly as a job for one of the studios, and unfortunately because the lot was leased to multiple studios, we can't use that as a method to square in. We do know it was the same suspects due to a witness spotting what appeared to be the dress of Marilyn Monroe which was among the items stolen. We traced the car to a used auto dealership where it was sold two weeks ago to a woman named Cynthia Hale who we currently have in custody, though she claims the van was stolen. We are currently investigating all known U-Hauls within the Los Angeles area as well as looking into local pawn shops and known memorabilia buyers to see if they have managed to trade the stolen memorabilia." Cole explained.

He then went over sketches of the suspects as well as all known information on Cynthia Hale, but the three of you were drawing complete blanks on what was being said. Cole nodded and continued on, "Now we shall get into the meat of our meeting today, possible motivations and suspects for the burglary and Miss Reynolds near homocide. If any one of you had to place a guess as to who would be responsible, please feel free to indulge. Anybody, no matter how likely is welcome."

"That bastard of a man Harry Karl." Todd seethed, spitting the name out like venom, with Carrie easily nodding her head, "He was always jealous of mom's wealth and spent their whole marriage leeching off her like a parasite while he was gambling with the mafia and having sex with hookers. He knew how much that collection meant to mom and he wants the money." Todd informed, with Cole writing the information down.

"His bitch of a daughter is probably in on it." Carrie sneered, though Todd even for all of his hate of the man was caught aback.

"Tina? Mom always treated her well." Todd reasoned. You held back from joining in as you had only met Carrie's former stepsister once and she didn't leave much of an impression besides being a bit vain and haughty, but nothing too unusual for a spoiled teenage girl.

"And we bled her father dry and kicked him to the curb, and she left Beverly Hills. That cunt probably wanted payback and to get rich." Carrie raged. Early on in your relationship, her troubles with Tina had been a frequent vent on your dates as the two girls got along like oil and vinegar along with Carrie resenting her for being a stranger who in her view, tried to steal Debbie's love.

"At this moment Harry Karl is our primary suspect. We have gotten in touch with the Las Vegas police department, but they reported that he has not been seen by his neighbors or close friends for nearly three weeks. Whether related or coincidence is still known, but our friends in Nevada are searching. As for his daughter, she currently resides in San Francisco and has no known criminal record, but at your insistence Mrs. O'Brian we shall look into her recent activities." Cole said, earning a satisfied nod from Carrie.

At the mention of ex-husbands, a pit formed into your stomach over recent events. "Have you investigated Ed Fisher?" You asked, both Todd and Carrie looking at you in shock.

"Bruce?! You think Dad did it? He's a piece of crap but he doesn't care about Mom at all. She didn't dry him like Harry and he doesn't give a shit about his other wives or our half-sisters." Todd reasoned.

You took a deep breath and exhaled, nervous about your revelation. "After Carrie and I married and before we left for filming, Ed came by our house a few times." Bruce said, with Carrie staring down her husband, "He claimed he wanted to speak with Carrie and make amends, but I didn't trust a single word he said and Carrie made it clear since we started dating that she didn't want nothing to do with her father and never wanted to see him again. I told him to get off our property and never come again, he came after Christmas, then after New Years', and after the third time where I threatened a restraining order, he never came by again." You informed. While you considered Debbie to be a second mom, Ed Fisher was no way in hell your father-in-law and in your opinion he gave up his rights to being Carrie's Dad when he left her and Todd as babies for another woman, one who he would dump a few years later. Carrie would always be hurt whenever his name got brought up and you didn't want her to be miserable from his existence any more.

Carrie squeezed your hand and you looked her right in the eyes, "Bruce, I approve of you keeping him away from our home, but from now on if he comes again I want you to let me know. I'm more than happy to kick him to the curb myself." Carrie said sternly.

"I promise." You affirmed, curving Carrie's lips upward.

"Well right now Ed Fisher is currently a suspect for similar reasons to Harry Karl, however throughout our investigation he has been very cooperative with LAPD and has strong alibis for the time of the shooting. While we haven't ruled him out yet, he's not a high priority until we are given probable cause, though we will confront him with this new information going forward." Cole said.

"Speaking of, there's a minor bit of legalese I would like to inform you three. When we spoke with Ed Fisher, he attempted to take custody of young Todd here for the duration of Miss Reynolds stay." Cole informed, with Todd's face twisting sour at the news.

"I presume since I haven't seen him that it didn't work?" Todd asked, to which Cole nodded.

"Correct. After Miss Reynolds divorce, she managed to revoke the entirety of Ed Fisher's legal rights over you two due to his total neglect of responsibility, visits and child support payments. After your sister turned 18, Miss Reynolds legally placed her as your guardian if she were to be deceased or incapacitated, and early in the year extended the same responsibility to Mr. O'Brian by virtue of being your brother-in-law. So legally for the duration of your mother's hospital stay, you are under the care of Bruce and Carrie O'Brian."

Todd shrugged his shoulders at the news. "Fine by me, it's only going to be a couple more weeks, and no matter what I'll be with family."

You nodded your head in support, "And I'll always be happy to support my brother." You affirmed, bringing a smile to Todd and Carrie.

"Aside from ex-husbands, are there any notable individuals who you feel would bear a significant vendetta or hatred against Miss Reynolds?" Cole asked.

"I can't really think of anyone. Everyone who knows mom aside from those two love her, she's America's sweetheart." Carrie responded.

"Well...everyone except the Editors at Universal." You countered, with Carrie wincing at that.

"Who exactly might you be referring to?" Cole asked with intrigue.

Carrie exhaled a heavy sigh, "Have you seen Some Nights?"

"Of course, it's my wife's favorite movie." Cole complimented, lifting Carrie's mood a bit.

"Well, in its original state it was one of the worst films ever made because of the original idiotic Editing team who liked to play and experiment with it. Mom got mad when she found out and managed to get the studio to replace the team and blacklist the original crew." Carrie informed.

"Would you happen to know any of them?" Cole asked.

Carrie shook her head, "Well, we'll look into it with Universal at a later juncture. Speaking of studios, has Miss Reynolds undertaken any actions during the ongoing strike that might have created enemies out of either the Studios or Guilds?"

Todd looked offended at the idea. "Mom? She was nowhere close to the leadership of the strike and didn't speak a single word with Universal or the others in following Guild rules. She helped out with supplies, marched in the picket line every now and then, and donated some money to the support funds, but she never took major initiative or responsibility."

The mention of studios and strikes caused a second pit to grow in your stomach, this time with more resolve and assurance than the first. "Is it possible Mom was targeted as a way of getting to me?" You asked in guilt.

"Bruce." Carrie whispered in soft concern.

"Are you referring to Mr. Fisher again?" Cole asked, to which you shook your head.

"No. Ever since I started MASH, I've made a lot of enemies in this town, too many to count. Half the studios and networks have some sort of grudge against me because I started the wave of change, and recently the Guilds have been using my face as a rallying cry for reform. I....if Mom was hurt to send a message, it was to pass it on to me."

You then gave a very long expose over all the shit you've gone through since coming to town and all the bastards who tried to fuck you and your friends for greed or no reason. Many Carrie and Todd were well aware of, some they were not. It felt like you had just gone to confession with the weight lifted on your shoulders, but at the same time there was heavy resignation that this would not be the last time you had enemies in Hollywood, all because you had to finish the fights you were roped into by destroying your opponents with Irish vengeance.

While Cole seemed sympathetic, he said that with the cutthroat politics of Hollywood that there wasn't significant justification to go after all who were listed, not to mention it would be more likely for them to go directly after you and Carrie versus Debbie and her collection. He did promise to keep an open eye though, and to your relief the fucker who tried to mug you a year ago was still in jail and still a lone wolf.

A half an hour more was spent discussing evidence and theories, and you were able to get an agreement to hire a private eye to do a concurrent investigation as you were hoping to recruit the aid of the investigator who helped you with the listening bugs fiasco.

By the time you left and made it back to the hospital, the three of you were utterly exhausted and miserable, greatly fatigued and running on fumes. It was so obvious that Debbie even in her state of weakness, demanded the three of you go home and get a good night's sleep instead of spending another night at the hospital, coercing you into complying with threats of not eating.

Thus, you and Carrie headed back to your place with Todd in tow due to his house still being considered a crime scene. You were met with the sight of John who thankfully pulled through and agreed to house sit and keep watch over Ginger and Natalie while you were gone.

That night the three of you didn't do much of anything. Dinner was a somber meal of mindlessly stirring bowls of potato soup, and the rest of the night consisted of quiet snippets of small talk while the TV blared on. As if sensing your shared pain, Ginger and Natalie had pulled through as therapeutic pets and helped to ease the turmoil with constant affection and cuddles.

Before you went to bed, Carrie surprised you by requesting to lead a rosary. You helped her recite the Sorrowful Mysteries with Todd also joining in as well despite not having started conversion. You prayed fervently for God to answer your prayers just as had been done for your Dad, and that this would be the last time an O'Brian or loved one would be struck by a bullet.

Once you were done you went to sleep at an early hour, everyone eager for rest to finally take them. Todd took one of the guest rooms with Natalie while Ginger climbed onto your bed and curled into Carrie's embrace. You in turn held onto Carrie throughout the night, constantly whispering that it was going to be okay, for both her and yourself, as a quiet stream of tears traveled well into sleep.

Is Bruce even skilled enough to pull off a john wick?
Almost. That is all I will say.
@Magoose Will we see Alan's Deal Part 2 and the MASH Season 4 rolls soon now that the update is out?
Yes.
Also what is the exact timeframe of the shooting? Did it happen after Bruce returned to LA?
Right before he returned.
Well that was... Intense.

Weapons Hot: Self-Defense
Weapons Hot: Self-Defense:

Bruce was staring at his firearms: a Winchester Model 1894 rifle, a Mossberg 500 shotgun, and a Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolver. It had been a few weeks since his mother-in-law Debbie had been attacked and shot in her own home, and the incident had left him in emotional turmoil.

Despite the tragedy, Bruce knew he needed to take steps to defend himself and his family. He was taking more and more steps to ensure he knew how to properly defend his home, even taking the fairly empty and unused airsoft court at the back of the property into a both a proper range and a mock-up of his house and was practicing his marksmanship repeatedly.

His old friend Sean Harris had come to his aid, offering to instruct him in the proper movements and techniques for home defense. As Sean did his best to guide him, Bruce struggled to keep his emotions in check. Anger would make him careless, and he understood the danger that came with improper weapon usage.

Sean sensed his friend's inner turmoil and assured him that he was not alone. "Listen, Bruce - I'm here for you, Carrie, Todd, George, Dave and Mike are and by God, Sally (may her soul rest in peace)– we all want to help and make sure everyone is safe. But, we also know that your emotions boil and flailing an uncontrolled weapon can be a danger to those we need to protect."

Bruce appreciated Sean's words of encouragement and tried to channel them into something constructive, rather than destructive. He practiced relentlessly and learned the proper techniques of using his weapons in case there was an intruder again. He was focused on making sure he was better prepared for the next time trouble came knocking.

Although his emotions continued to swirl beneath the surface, Bruce had found solace in the fact that he was taking the necessary steps to protect himself and his loved ones and continued to practice and perfect his marksmanship skills with unwavering determination, feeling a need to be able to protect not just himself, but also what was his - his family, his loved ones and everything they had worked hard to build.

However, Carrie could not handle the constant presence of firearms and the potential trigger they brought to their family; after the attack on her mother and her husband's own history of being shot, Carrie could not bring herself to support, what she see saw as, Bruce's love for guns. She saw the devastation and tragedy that firearms had wrought on their family, and the thought of Bruce adding to that legacy terrified her.

Their disagreement quickly spiraled into a full-blown argument with Bruce insisting that he needed to be able to defend what was theirs and Carrie feeling that firearms only brought more danger into their lives. Tensions were high, and the argument lasted for many restless nights.

Days went by, and Bruce's training continued unabated. However, he could not shake the feeling that he was alone in his passion for guns. He felt as though he was losing his connection with his wife, who had always been his closest confidant, and, eventually, after days of fighting and not being able to reach a conclusion, Bruce took Carrie, as well as Todd, to the range with him. He hoped that by showing them both how to handle firearms safely, she would understand his need to protect their family.

As they trained together, Bruce explained that it wasn't just about defending himself, but about defending their family and their future together. He showed her how to handle each gun carefully and how to aim and shoot accurately, instilling in her a sense of confidence and control.

Carrie began to understand his perspective, but she still couldn't shake her fear. She felt that by owning and using guns, they were only inviting more danger into their lives. Todd himself...kept things tighter to his chest, unwilling to say one way or the other.

In the end, they came to an agreement. Bruce could continue to train and perfect his marksmanship skills, but he would do so in a safer location away from their home. He would only use his skills if absolutely necessary, and only to protect him, Carrie and their family.

While Carrie still wished that guns weren't a part of their lives, that they weren't kept so close to her, she could understand why Bruce felt the need to be prepared for what the world might throw at them. And with his practical and cautious approach, she was willing to support him while being able to voice her own concerns.

With Carrie still uneasy about guns, Bruce decided to explore other self-defense techniques that could help her feel more prepared for any potential threats. He wanted to make sure that she felt in control and empowered while still being able to protect herself and their family.

Bruce began teaching Carrie and Todd basic self-defense moves that she could use in close combat situations. He showed her how to deflect punches, break free from grabs, and use her body weight to her advantage. Carrie found these techniques to be more in line with her personal values and morality, and they helped her feel more confident and secure.

Despite her progress, Bruce felt that he was not the best person to train Carrie in these techniques. He wanted to make sure that she was learning from a reputable and experienced trainer who could help her take her skills to the next level, while continuing to train her brother up to parr.

So, he took her to a reputable self-defense and martial arts trainer, having met with her on a few occassions before while training with his late master. The trainer respected her hesitance towards firearms, and most other weapons, and taught her a variety of close-combat skills that she could use in case of emergencies. Knowing his wife had a good understanding and foundation of self-defense techniques made Bruce feel more confident about her safety when he wasn't there.

But even after taking all these steps, he still worried, and so every night when he came to kiss her good night, he'd hold her close just a little bit tighter, determined to create a better future for her.

And likewise, he did his best to teach Todd everything he possibly could to let him know that he was safe, and would stay safe.

After all, these are the things we do for love.

A/N: Anything and everything to keep the ones we love safe, but keeping their wants and fears in mind. Let them know they are wanted and heard, that we continue to respect their thoughts and feelings on the matter even as we disagree with them on various issues.

[]We Caught a Break (+30 to Memorbelia roll)

Also @Redeyesinferno I hope you choose the prayer bonus because in the past it has been a really powerful action and done wonders for us in benefits even with a low roll.

Todd himself...kept things tighter to his chest, unwilling to say one way or the other.

You know, Todd himself is actually a major firearms collector OTL so I think he'd be very much inclined to side with Bruce but Carrie's fears and anxieties make perfect sense.

This just occurred to me, but did Bruce's parents cameo as the bartenders in the Mos Eisley Cantina?

Figure it would mean a lot to Bruce's dad, while also a massive middle finger of whoever pushed him out of the industry.

I really wish they were Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, or at the very least Joseph got to play Owen to make a great comeback to film and take part in one of the GOATs. I could see it happening thanks to Joseph and George talking during the wedding and George doing it as a gesture of kindness and thanks to Bruce. All the supporting characters got 240 so Joseph even as rusty as he is could definitely pull off a great performance and as was stated before, Owen isn't a role that requires something grand. If Magoose is wiling, I'd totally be happy to do an Omake to make it canon.

If you're talking about the family bar, it's called the Jumping Whale. No idea on what it looks like, but past several turns have given a strong impression of it being very financially successful to the point where Joseph and Sarah no longer need to be involved in direct management on a daily basis and have lots of leisure time and ability to travel and see their kids. One aspect of the bar I imagine is that it's going to have a lot of photos and some memorabilia of Bruce and Carrie's performances over the years and themed food.

It was also renovated, as I recall

Horror Movie Pitch: Deliver us to Evil
I tried my hand at a horror movie that would be pretty subversive for the time (the mid to late 70's-early 80's) and…I'm pretty sure what I wrote is pretty fucked up.

It attempts to join the growing horror slasher trend of the 70's, that focussed on the outsider and challenged those who went against traditional values (ie the Hills Have Eyes), while also making a few jabs at the typical tropes of the horror genre. It also draws some inspiration from the same inspirations that inspired Alien (Alien was supposed to be a metaphor for sexual violence, attempting to instil the fear of it in men that was present for women).

Let me know if you guessed what was going to happen too easily, and what you think of my first dip into trying to write a horror pitch.

Horror Movie Pitch:
Deliver us to Evil

Five friends, Adam, Eve, Kaine, Joseph and Lily spend their days whiling away the time in a small town in Texas. Adam is an immigrant from Canada, he is seen as exotic and different in the town, lacking their heavy Christian beliefs. Eve is a traditional and girly girl who desperately wants to break out from her role as a small town Christian girl, and seeks a relationship with Adam and takes part in the groups trouble making to do so. Kaine is the local equivalent of a bad boy, dealing with a drunken father, interested in sex and hoping to ditch the small town and travel the US on his motorcycle, he is somewhat perverse, trying to kiss the two girls despite their reluctance when the group drinks together. Joseph is a religious boy and a nerd, who follows his older brother Kaine for lack of better options, Adam often having to protect him from his brothers bullying. Lily is a follower, nervously trying to keep up with everyone else.

The group are presented as outsiders in the small religious community, and troublemakers, Kaine pressing the others into doing things like smashing windows, getting drunk and high or going into abandoned and haunted houses. The first 20 minutes focusses solely on their lives and the emptiness they feel as outsiders.

During one such excursion to an abandoned house on the county line, the group sees lights and figures moving in the windows, Eve, Lily and Joseph want to leave instead of investigating, Kaine wants to go in, Adam is on the fence until he hears a scream from the house, at which point he wants to go in, while Kaine changes his mind, eventually the group is forced to sneak into the house when Adam goes onwards against their wishes.

In the house they discover an occult ritual occurring, a beautiful young woman at its centre, in clear distress. Adam attacks, grabbing the large tome the head of the cultists is reading from and using it as a weapon, the group manage to escape with the captured girl, Kaine setting the house on fire as they escape. The cult chases them into the woods, stalking them, but the group manage to get to the road, and escape with the help of a passing trucker.

At the police station the relate their story. It turns out the mysterious girl is foreign, speaking a language no one can understand, the sheriff and his deputy assume she is an illegal immigrant from Eastern Europe, smuggled in by human traffickers, they jokingly call her Jane Doe, and the nickname sticks. Both Adam and Kaine offer her a place to stay, but the Deputy, who can't keep his eyes off of Jane, states she'll have to stay in the police station for the night, Jane gets upset when they try to separate her from Adam, which makes Eve jealous.

The deputy tries to communicate to Jane, and implies that, as an illegal immigrant, he can have her deported 'back to Russia' if she doesn't comply with what he wants, putting his hand on her knee, she pushes him away and the sheriff sees, he takes Jane back to his place to stay, and demands the deputy stay in the office and try and see if he can find a name or kissing persons report to match Jane. Outside we see the camera linger on the woods outside, where we see a figure in a cultists hood dip behind cover.

At the old Sheriff's home, which is quite isolated and out of town, we see him show Jane around, she notices a picture of him and a woman together, his old wife, who died several years ago, he claims he misses her to Jane, who can't really understand, but comforts him nonetheless. The old Sheriff smiles and claims that, if she needs a home she has one here, before showing her to his spare room and letting her sleep for the night.

Back at the Sheriff station the camera acts as a POV. As someone stalks the Deputy through the station, eventually he turns as the camera advances on him, screaming, before the camera turns to black.

The next day Adam, Kaine and the group are hanging out at a restaurant when Jane walks in, she still can't speak English, but she immediately tries to get close to Adam, even as Kaine tries to get close to her, and Eve tries to get between them. Joseph meanwhile has the book from the ritual and is trying to read it, while Lily notices a commotion outside as an ambulance and the sheriffs car speed past. Joseph explains that he is trying to figure out what the cult wanted, and that the book seems to be in Latin, though he struggles to read it himself, and suggests they take it to the local priest.

Meanwhile the ambulances and sheriffs car that passed the restaurant earlier are revealed to be heading to the Sheriffs station, where they find the Deputy, torn to shreds from the waist down. The Sheriff announced they'll have to call for backup, as this cult is obviously real and very dangerous. He realises Jane has wandered off, and quickly races to his car to look for her.

The teenagers have arrived at the church, we see a hooded figure watching them from around a corner. Jane seems reluctant to leave Adam's car, seemingly scared, and locking the car doors when they try to get her out, Kaine volunteers to stay with her, Adam is reluctant to do so, as Jane doesn't want him to leave, but Eve manages to drag him away into the church.

In the church the priest identifies the book as one designed to catalogue demons, The Meretrices Biblia, containing how to summon demons, and how to seal them. The group is startled as they realise that is what the cult was attempting, and the group manage to identify the symbols of the ritual they saw, helping to narrow down the ritual used to one used to summon Succubi, a female demon that mates for life, giving their lover unimaginable pleasure in exchange for essentially trapping them, keeping them as their mate sealed away from the world in their chosen nest. To summon the succubus requires a human sacrifice however.

Meanwhile back in the car Kaine begins to try and pressure Jane into sex, getting pushier and pushier, eventually she screams and Kaine jumps away, before noticing a cultist watching the car, he honks his horn to warns the others, scaring the cultist away. The rest of the group comes running, the sheriff pulls around the corner too, he rushes in to grab Jane, telling the group of kids about what happened to the Deputy, and wanting them to stay indoors and warn their parents about what's happening, much to their horror.

That night the Sheriff keeps watch over his house, armed and ready, he announces backup will be here soon to Jane, who he then begins to teach English, with immense speed she starts to pick it up and speak broken sentences within a few hours. The Sheriff sends her to bed, and continues to keep his watch over the house.

Later outside Cultists begin to gather in the woods around the Sheriffs home. He notices, and begins to shoot at them, driving them away, even killing one who attempts to climb the wall of his home to the bedroom Jane is in. He rushes up to check on her, only to find her window open and her gone.

At Kaine and Joseph's house the two boys are both avoiding their drunk father, who is angry at them for getting involved. Kaine seems more annoyed then anything else, while Joseph is legitimately terrified, going back to the tome they stole from the cultists to try and decipher more, using a Latin dictionary he was lent by the priest.

Someone sneaks into their house, the camera following it POV as they sneak up on their father, killing him silently and brutally, before sneaking towards Kaine's room. In his own bedroom Joseph hears Kaine's screams, and hides beneath the bed, he sees someone walk into his room, go towards his desk and look at the tome, he stays as quiet as he can, before the figure turns towards the bed, then suddenly turns and leap out of the window. He stays beneath his bed, in an empty house, weeping and terrified.

At Adam's house he is stressed and scared, and when he hears a knock at his window he grabs a baseball bat and turns to swing…only for it to be Jane. She's snuck out to see him, let in and climbing into his bedroom, she begins to talk to him in broken sentences, very clearly flirting with him, causing him to get flustered as she becomes more and more overt, the two almost begin to kiss…until a pebble hits his window. Adam pokes his head out and sees Eve, who begins to explain that she snuck out because she needed to see how he was as she was worried, and she wants to climb up and see him, only for Jane to stick her head out of the window, causing Eve to get upset and run off, getting back in her bike and cycling away. Adam gets annoyed when Jane resists his attempts to leave and tries to make him stay, beginning to undress. His parents hear the commotion and open the door to find the two, the sheriff being called.

Eve cycles all the way to Lilly's house, coming in and crying into her friends arms, while hooded figures from the cult watch from outside.

The next day news of Kaine and his fathers murder reaches Adam, who is devastated, he goes to see Joseph who can barely talk as he is so traumatised, however he is still clutching the book, he begins to scream as the Sheriff and Jane enter the room again, the Sheriff becomes distracted trying to calm him down, and Adam is hurried out of the room, Jane tries to follow but Adam is too upset to talk. He goes outside and runs into Lily.

Lily explains that Eve will be coming later, but she didn't want to run into Adam, she tells Adam that Eve loves him, and that, with everything going on, she couldn't ignore it anymore, Adam admits he doesn't feel the same way, and Lily acknowledges this and goes in to help calm and comfort Joseph, passing by Jane who was listening in.

Adam is distressed and depressed, he goes back to the church to speak the the priest, who tries to comfort him, only to largely fail, frustrated he goes back outside, only to find Jane followed him. He gets angry at her, raging and saying it was a mistake to save her, only to immediately regret it when she begins to cry. He tried to comfort her, and she comforts him, the two hold each other and he goes to take her home to the sheriffs place, only for her to get him to take a detour, Jane begins to kiss Adam and tell him he loves her as they park in a back alley. Eventually she drags him to the back seat, and the two begin to have sex.

In the middle of it however, her eyes turn black, she grows fangs, and her hands and feet begin to grow scales. Adam horrified, realises she wasn't the sacrifice, she was the succubus the entire time. The sex turns to rape as she forces herself on him, but before he can finish, the cultists interrupt, smashing the car window and trying to attack Jane, driving her off with Holy Water, saving Adam.

The group of hooded figures reveal themselves, they are exorcists, they trapped a succubus that was summoned to this world and were trying to banish her back to hell. The group had inadvertently saved the succubus, and she had fallen for Adam, trying to make him her mate, and killing those who aggravated her.

Scared, Adam allows the exorcists to escort him home, before going to track Jane to her 'nest' and attempt to defeat her, once and for all. When he gets home he finds Eve's parents there, desperately looking for their daughter, who went missing from her bedroom earlier that day.

At the sheriffs home Jane is in her human form, in the bedroom she was given, trying to tend to her wounds and crying. The Sheriff believes she was attacked, and when he hears a noise downstairs arms himself and goes to defend his house, calling in the other sheriffs that had arrived earlier that day to reinforce him over his radio. In the ensuing fight, the sheriff is killed by the exorcists as they try to restrain him, Jane, seeing this, becomes enraged, becoming a demon she tears the exorcists apart. Before approaching the dead sheriff, and taking his body outside, burying him, when the other Sheriffs arrive and disturb her, she kills them.

Adam meanwhile has gone out hunting for Eve, eventually he decides to check the road between his house and hers, going off the road when he sees a flock of birds feeding on something. It turns out it's Eve's dead body. Jane murdered her.

He flees back to his house and calls Lily, warning her of what Jane is and telling her to flee to the church to try and get help from the Priest. As he goes outside he sees Jane walking towards him from down the street, covered in blood, he jumps in his car and drives as fast as he can away from her.

Arriving at the church Adam sees Lily and drags her onto the grounds, pursued by Jane, who stops at the border. Adam realises that she can't go into holy ground, hence why she panicked in the car and waited for him outside earlier. For now, they're safe. Jane calls out to Adam 'Come! Love! Please! Come!'.

The priest emerges and sees the demon before them, he hurries them inside.

Within the church they begin to try and make a plan. The succubus wants Adam, to take him away and keep him in her nest, wherever that may be, and they only really have one weapon they know will work on her, Holy Water. The priest has a limited amount, but brings more up and begins to try and bless it, they plan for Adam to distract her while Lily and the Priest sneak up on her flanks and douse her in Holy Water, hopefully killing her.

However before they can send Adam out, they hear Joseph's calls. Jane has captured him, and dragged him in front of the church. She calls for Adam to come out to her, and begins to claw out one of Joseph's eyes when he does not. Rushed, they decide to enact the plan with less Holy Water than they wanted, to try and save Joseph.

Adam distract her, Jane becoming fixated and visibly excited when he emerges and walks towards her, calling out to him. The Priest and Lily attack, the Holy Water burning Jane, she uses Joseph as a shield to protect herself from one side, before slitting his throat and throwing his body at Lily, pinning her beneath his corpse, she then turns and kills the priest. Despite her burns she still lives, but Adam manages to retreat into the church.

There he prays to god, for forgiveness, for salvation, despite not being religious before, he now can't help but look to god for guidance. No answer comes.

He hears Jane calling for him again. He looks outside, she's healed already, and in her hands is Lily, terrified. Adam looks back at the empty church, then at the beckoning monster before him, trying to stifle tears he approached Jane, who drops a weeping traumatised Lily to the ground before taking Adam's hand.

Lily reaches out, trying to pull Adam away, but failing. Adam marches along, pulled by Jane towards the woods outside of town. She leads him to to Sheriffs house, past the bodies of the exorcists and up to 'her' room. Then she pushes him down onto the bed and begins to force herself on him. The house begins to rock and the earth begins to shake, as the house begins to be dragged underground, eventually being swallowed up and disappearing underground as though it was never there.

The last shot of the movie is of Jane, in her bedroom, illuminated by candlelight, with shining eyes kneeling over Adam, cradling a pregnant stomach, Adam silently crying as she coos happily over her baby and him.

The Ocean's Salt and Spray
The Ocean's Salt and Spray:

After Carrie and Bruce had come to a compromise about self-defense techniques, Bruce found himself unable to find enjoyment in marksmanship practice as he once did, given it's current...purpose. For awhile, he tried several new athletic and adventure hobbies to find something else that would ignite his passion. Unfortunately, none of them got him the same level of contentment and satisfaction that he had felt after a successful day of shooting at the range.

Desperately seeking a new hobby that could give him a sense of...release, of exhilaration, he started asking around and researching activities that could give him the same sense of satisfaction he had found before. It was a long and frustrating journey, but eventually, he found himself drawn back to sailing, a hobby he had actually been a part of in the past but had not pursued fully, not the extent Dave and Feet had, mostly using it as an excuse to go fishing. He'd agreed to go with them late that August after weeks of arguments, of fretting over everyone but himself, because he'd realized he hadn't actually checked on Dave in awhile, not since his episode, and had joined them out on the water out of a sense of...obligation. It wasn't until he'd seen his friend be as serene as could be, that he let loose of some of the tension he felt and with that wave of calm came the realization of the wind in his hair, the sun on his back, the ocean's salt and spray in his face...it gave him the sense of freedom he yearned for and brought back memories of his carefree youth.

If he had to explain it in a word, then at that moment it had felt...fundamental, something that touched him deeply in his soul and made it feel as if, for a moment, he was watched by each and every single one of his ancestors as if to reassure him that everything was going to be alright, set back into order. The only other thing he could compare it to would be akin to a runner's high, that spike of adrenaline and serenity after breaking through and establishing a new accomplishment following moments of weakness, but more in the religous sense.

As they cruised on the open water, Bruce realized that sailing gave him the same sense of purpose he had been searching for. He felt focused, determined, and content, just like how he had felt when he first began his firearms training. But sailing was different - it wasn't as aggressive, and he didn't feel like he was training to hurt someone. He felt like he was working in harmony with nature, gliding through the water with his hands on the wheel, calmly navigating the waves as they rose and fell around him. He knew then that his passion wasn't just for firearms, but for the challenge of mastering something difficult and taking control of the situation. He could still feel fulfilled and satisfied finding his own path and means to defend what was dear to him.

Much later on, as they watched the night sky unfold before them, the briefest glimpse of the Vesper Light on the western horizon, that he let slip a sigh of contentment and, for the first time in a long while, fell asleep without having to wrestle his demons.

In waking, Bruce decided to dedicate himself to mastering it completely. And so, he began to train.

Working tirelessly for weeks, pouring all his energy and effort into learning about sailing, taking classes, and practicing on the open water. Every day, he would visualize himself on the water, working to perfect his skills and become the best sailor he could be.

The journey was not easy. There were days when he felt frustrated and exhausted, wondering if he would ever master the art of sailing. But he refused to give up, pushing himself to go further and work harder.

Slowly but surely, he started to see progress. He was becoming more confident in his abilities, learning how to navigate different weather conditions and sail on his own. His passion for sailing drove him forward, inspiring him to keep going even on his toughest days.

It was a journey filled with ups and downs, but through it all, Bruce remained committed and focused on his goal. He spent long hours out on the water, watching the movements of his boat and feeling the wind in his hair.

Finally, after weeks of dedicated practice, he felt as though he had truly mastered the art of sailing. He was able to handle his boat with ease and confidence, feeling one with the water, wind, and sky.

Looking back on his journey, Bruce realized that the path to mastering a new passion was just as important - if not more important - than the end result. It was the dedication, commitment, and hard work that had allowed him to achieve his dream.

Sailing had become more than just a hobby. It was a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement. Through it all, Bruce had discovered the true meaning of passion and purpose, a lesson he would carry with him for a lifetime.

But for today, it might be enough to finally take Carrie and Todd out on the water so that he might share his joy with them.

A/N: Basically shooting doesn't give Bruce the same dopamine release anymore, given that he basically turned it from a passion, a hobby, into a job. No doubt he's ferocious with firearms at this point, that being the point of his training, but it no longer helps him destress after a long day, and sailing...well, this wasn't exactly the journey I had in mind for him to build up the skillset, but nevertheless, here's to hoping a new skill, a new passion, a new hobby, helps his mental health. [EDIT: For clarity, the vesper light is a name for the green flash sunset (and the one I've always heard it referred as), which is a real phenomenon.][EDIT2: Fixed broken link.]
