On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] [Campaign] Push on: Strike once more, attack, hopefully break through and destroy the next Fimir City. Campaign continues. Losses from this point will not be replaced before the campaign season ends. The Fimir do not have a chance to prepare, but neither do you.
[X] [Snorri] Write In: Perhaps a change of approach is in order. Burn a path, such that the Throng marches in your wake through ash and dust instead of swamp and rot. The forces of the Plaguefather shall be sterilised in the fires of Skarrenbakaraz.

Ultimately, the main killer here wasn't the daemons, it was the environment, which the nurglites will continue to corrupt and expand if the dawi pull back. Unless the dawi came back with an anti nurgle version of the statue that cleared the ground for this campaign, it will only get worse if put off. Like most things with dealing with Chaos, there's no real good option.

I'm feeling pretty wary of letting the corpse using faction snowball their prep time after revealing our army composition and trump cards when we're going to be spending our prep time on infrastructure projects.
A round two would then just be "the same as before but with refreshed numbers" vs. whatever new foul counter the enemy's cooked up.
There is also the Gronti we will end up building as part of the infrastructure. To me, part of the use cases for it is to be a Titan-scale combatant and siege weapon fielded in difficult campaigns.

Has a Rune of Stainless been proposed yet? I want it to be a future rune someone in the campaign thinks of that would help prevent the maintenance issues they suffered here, because I would think the very idea of this happening is deeply and personally offensive to the dwarfs.

So, Rune of Stainless would be a mix of magic breaker, either for general magics, or one specifically for Papa Nurgy's brand of Chaos, along with whatever rune they use in those filters the Foundries for the physical cleansing needed.

Maybe also a Master Rune version for Banners and Siege Engines if we add a rune of Steel in there somewhere.

Not quite what you're describing but the runes of repair and that tech tree we have is about minor repairs. Stronger runes up that tree could be an answer to maintenance issues like this.

Oof.
Yeah the Forces of the Plaguefather or however that title goes put in work…I'm thinking we pack it in, retreat for this round, and…
Heh.
Round 2? We save that city for last, and make sure we can grind them down at our leisure.
Because that way, we don't have to worry about them doing hammer and anvil nonsense on us.
Because getting stuck in is kind of what Nurgle wants, and thus will encourage, which won't play nice with the other cities being able to do shenanigans while we're busy with that.

[x] [Campaign] Retreat: Fall back, rest, recuperate and prepare for the foe. Return to normal turns, go through the Rune Trades. Both sides are able to prepare for the next round of conflict, and efforts to bring in Valma and Igna will be made by the Dwarfs.

there are more than 5 cities there are unknown amount on the coast so we can't save them for last since it would leave a massive emeny fore behind our lines free to cause mayhem
plus giving them however many cities worth of time to fortify and spread and grow. you think this was bad, imagine if the rot bogs were ten or a hundred times larger so you have to march through 10 to 100x more distance of daemon creating terrain and then imagine the amount of reinforcements the rest of the circle will spawn to rush over, we would need exponentially more throngs to deal with such a foe not just double or triple.

edit: at least with khorne he is limited by the number of people bleeding out for advancement, or tzeentch who will plot against himself if left alone and self sabatoge, but nurgle? oh no, he will merely rot, and FESTER.

Yeah, I know about Repair, but I want to see another runesmith develop a rune that specifically counters the chaos swamp issue the throng is facing. Something that would actively shun dirt and the like. Basically a different direction to battling the maintenance issues found in the battle.

Might even have it made by a cleanfreak dwarf who just actively hates dirt and the like.

Not a great day to be a dwarf. Still, this was mostly bad luck and this sounds promising.

As for the campaign itself, I'll admit that the losses were a significant concern, and if it was anyone but Nurgle (particularly if it was Khorne), I'd argue to regroup. But Nurgle is by far the worst enemy to face if you give them time to build defences simply because the spread of plague is by nature contagious, unlike the rest which need extra effort to do so. That said, the choice is simple to make, if painful and a minor bit nervewracking after the poor showing before.
