One think I like about this is the contrast between Heidi's reaction and Mathilde's parents reaction to learning their child has magic. Mathilde's parents tried to burn her at the stake, whilst Heidi rushed to the only person she trusted to ask for the best way to protect her son.

I think that makes Heidi the best mother in the entire quest.

Roswita and Mandred actually would be a smart alliance. Mathilde should nudge the two into friendship. Later it'll pay off for both.

After all, people will eventually find out about Mandred. Then he'll want at least one other Elector Count to be on his side, ready to speak for him against wizard prejudice. And what better EC to publicly vouch for Mandred's character, who better to say "I know evil, and our Mandred isn't," than Stirland's famous hunter of evils, Count Roswita van Hal?

And for Roswita, well, especially if Mandred isn't going to be Emperor, his parents will want the throne to go to an EC who gets along with their son. Their support in coming years wouldn't guarantee Roswita's ascent... but it sure wouldn't hurt Stirland.

There is a 30-40 year age gap between Mandred and Roswita, so "friendship" might not be the right term, but a political alliance between the Grand Prince of Reikland and the Grand Countess of Stirland would be very feasible.

There's a 31 year gap between Mathilde and Mandred. I was under the impression that Roswita was quite a bit younger.

Doesn't change your point though.

Getting Mandred another cool aunt is great though

I agree, but unfortunately that is not a super high bar to clear. We don't know that many mothers, and the ones we know of aren't exactly the greatest.

Eh, old people can be your friends too, as long as they're interesting, like, they kill vampires?

Mom says you just have to call them "mentor" or something and then everyone agrees what a nice respectful prince you are.

Isn't that how it works?

[Sudden desire to see Mandred!Quest...]

Roswita is about five years younger than Mathilde or something like that. Younger, but not young enough to be an entirely different age range I think.

Agree, but while not trying to excuse Mathilde's parents, Heidi is someone who knows alot more about magic and knows actual wizards - which does make making a good decision easier.

Again, not trying to excuse Mathilde's parents.

Acknowledge your debt to good fortune, and take a risk.
Hide your true nature in plain sight.
Lie to the world.
Do all this so that you may play the role of the role of the Protector of the People.

And perhaps, in doing all of this, you may bring forth something truly new.

For some reason my head keeps going back to the idea that even after Paranoth telling her Mathilde doesn't remember who Drycha is as her attention was immediately turned to the Mandred situation.

Nest time she meets Paranoth he will mention Drycha maybe in the context of telling someone else what Mathilde did and she will reply with a slightly confused blank face. "Who?"

This will continue with Paranoth assuming its now some sort of in joke and Mathilde genuinely confused as to who this "Drycha" person is.

Mathilde hit drycha so hard, she got the forgettable Arcane mark.
Paranoth remembers anyway because he is an OP isekai protagonist

the Prince and Princess getting a headstart on their nuptial duties and ending up with a strict and undelayable biological deadline for their marriage.

I just realised that Kazrik is going to be just like his dad, isn't he?

Between the royal clan of Azul and Vlag being Vlag, the dwarven realm is actually going to see a substantial rise in birthrates, aren't they? This wedding could very well be the date future historians will bookmark as the start of a new golden age for the Karaz Ankor.

This is assuming that Kazador is the primary factor in there. Let's not ignore the hard work Kazador's wife put in to have dozens of children. She's the one getting pregnant, not Kazador.

I feel like this is overhyping.

A happy wedding can just be a happy wedding.

I don't think these two are going to be so influential that their wedding will go down in history like that.

They are royalty, so they will go down in history, but not 'start of a new golden age'

It will probably be the high kings call to take control of trade if anything.
